Poor dive from Bentley.

I was wondering why the fuck he was taking it with the left foot, when he had so much time. Spiderman!
-
Hehe, what a cross!

Think Tottenham will win this 3-1.

Only me who thinks its time for a special game. Been way to long since the Arsenal match. 2-4 us. Ranger to bag a hattrick.
-
Thought it was unclear so made two teams

I'd do it if it was legal, but I'm not an outlaw.

Cafu is one if not the best rightback of all times. Carlos on the other hand sure, I can see Zanetti and Maldini there instead, but attackers are entertaining.
-
If the team is Schmeichel Cafú - Baresi - Maldini - R. Carlos Xavi - Redondo - Maradona Messi - Ronaldo - Van Basten Trust me you wont be worrying much about the 5 mins in the game your team has not got the ball. Redondo was an exceptional midfielder, good shout.

no Pele FFS but Beckham? Must be a ManU supporter :idiot2: Maybe thats based on players he ha seen. Still weird one to put Beckham there and not a player like Messi or Rivaldo who had much better left foot than Beckhams has right foot.
-
And Laudrup called Romario the best player he has played with. Where does that leave us? Michael Laudrup was a brilliant player, and definitely worth a mention. However in the 90s Zidane was still a level above him as a footballer, and Platini was also a better player to be frank. But he would never make my all time eleven.

I'm finding it impossible to pick an XI, but there's an awful lot to like about that one (although it's hard to comment on billtray's first selection) I hate to come all (poster) Ronaldo, but anyone who puts Roberto Carlos in needs to be committed to a high dependency psychiatric ward. THE ONLY left back worthy of consideration in the past twenty years is Maldini. Ashley f***ing Cole, too. Jesus Christ... Roberto Carlos in his prime was one of the best left-backs ever. If you want an attacking team you play RCarlos, you want a defensive team you put Maldini. It's not harder than that. I put Nilton Santos because he was immense as a left-back and offensive as hell, but had I wanted a more balanced left-back than Maldini is no doubt that player.

Should've probably mentioned that in my first comment. That rules out the majority that you just mentioned Alright, didn't read that. Sorry go on then

I meant footballers not strikers there. But just couple other better footballer Pele, Maradona, Zico, Jairzinho, Socrates, Careca, Di Stefano, Puskas, Liedholm, Zlatan Ibrahimovic (who I hate), Garrincha, Gerd Muller, Messi, CRonaldo, Romario, Eusebio, Hugo Sanchez. These are couple of forwards/trikers I rank higher than Batistuta. And honestly, in my opinion he's not a striker deserved to be mentioned in the top 5 of all times. However, yes if you look on a pure striker and goal instincts than in my opinion he's top 25 of all time.

The same with the overhead kick, even if it in the end, ended up as a good cross it was pointless. Yeah putting in an unexpected cross was totally pointless, like. It was going out for a corner Not criticizing to be honest. He will develop into one of the best centre-backs in the league, but that overhead kick was stupid, and that tackle on Dempsey too. He could've just let the ball roll out to a corner and then on Dempsey just waited for him to shoot or do whatever with the bal, he had full control over the situation.

How is that beyond you? Batistuta isn't even top 100 for me. That'd be due to your strong Brazilian bias. He was an absolute goalscoring machine. If Shearer didn't play for us and wasn't a geordie, people wouldn't be choosing him ahead of Batistuta. My comment was aimed more at the people who have chosen teams based upon players that they've seen, as well. And what does that have to do with me being Brazilian. Two of my favourite players nowadays are Argentinian, so you're wrong in that sense. I just don't rate Batistuta higher than Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Cruyff, van Basten, Ronaldo, Eto'o (who is hugely underrated) and so on.

Andy O'Brien - Titus Bramble was mint.
-
Don't get me wrong, Batistuta was a great striker, but there are many strikers who were better than him. Weird to put him down in a team as the best striker ever to grace the game.

How is that beyond you? Batistuta isn't even top 100 for me.

Yashin/Banks Cafu Beckenbauer Maldini Nilton Santos Garrrincha Zidane Zico Maradona Ronaldo Romario Would score a goal every minute. Also concede alot. But hey. Players I've seen then Schmeichel Cafu Maldini Baresi RCarlos CRonaldo Zidane Messi Ronaldo Romario Rivaldo
-
Get the fuck out, he won't get sold.
-
Well that's why we're comparing Ronaldo to Shearer. Two of my favorite players and I think most have seen them a lot. I've seen Ronaldo about 8 times live, and 100 times on TV. Shearer I've watched at least 100 on TV too so of course they're comparable.

Love Xavi, but I have more of a soft spot for Iniesta, ever since 2005 I have always been a fan of Iniesta. He gets less recognition than Xavi but is just an exceptional player. Also in top strikers you could mention the mexican striker Hugo Sanchez if you want beautiful goals and a lot of goals

This thread has become ridiculous, comparing who's the better player between one three times world-best player against one one european player of the year. Like I said, Shearer is the best striker that I have watched in the Premier League in his prime, Drogba is also up there, but Shearer just had this extra bit. However, it's strange to compare Ronaldo who played in three different league, scored more goals per game and never had to adapt due to his genuine talent. Ronaldo is probably the second or third best striker inside of the box but he created so much space and his pace was threat for 90 minutes at his prime. Also don't forget that from 96 onwards he didn't have more than one injury free season. But he came back stronger than ever after 2 years of injuries and setbacks and scored 8 goals for a team that wasn't considered favourites in the World Cup. In the end it's obvious that Ronaldo > Shearer, but then again this is a Newcastle forum so.
