Yep. What I was getting at yesterday. If we’ve not got the pull of ‘the 6’ despite CL football and we’re not prepared to pay what players of that caliber are getting, then we should adjust our strategy a little. It doesn’t mean signing shite, but small group of targets everyone else wants and is prepared to pay more for, isn’t likely to be all that successful. Constantly being rejected and being seen as last resort if ‘the 6’ don’t want you doesn’t exactly do much for our reputation either.

One of the problems we have is that we’re looking for upgrades/replacements for quite a few players in the next year or two. We’ve got five defenders plus Pope heading towards their mid-30s.

No it wasn’t. The person I was replying to said all of our signings had been a success and there wasn’t a single miss out of any of them. For what it’s worth, I think Elanga is a good signing.

City have always had a buy back clause. We’ve spent a year negotiating at around £10-20m less than it. Nobody to blame but ourselves. I doubt Tino would have got done under the current approach.

Exactly. I’m pretty sure Eddie isn’t contacting agents and discussing contracts. So no, I’m not saying he, the manager, hasn’t done his homework by ‘implication’.

It’s not, or it shouldn’t be, Eddie Howes job to do the work in finding out what it would take to get a player to the club. If it is, it’s amateur hour nearly 4 years on from the take over.

They clearly all just report what agents and to a lesser extent clubs are telling them. Pointless getting annoyed. Can’t really blame Liverpool either. For obvious reasons we want to go under the radar. Clubs like Liverpool are more likely to want information out there to try and turn heads.

‘Ekitike only wants LFC’ isn’t good for Liverpool if they think they’ve got a chance of Isak. It’s even less likely we’d sell.

I’m enjoying this too tbh. I mean we don’t exactly know the timeline of events, but it looks like we’ve forced Liverpool into action ahead of what they were planning on. They may get Ekitike, but it looks a bit desperate and reactionary. I think whatever happens, including an Isak sale for a huge price, we will end up better off overall.
