I get the impression we'd love to sell a big player or 2 to fund signings but the fact our players have been shit for so long doesn't help. The Gomis business is a great example of why our transfer dealings are so fundamentally flawed, we reach a sticking point in a deal so end up just going without. I meant half the world record, which as of today would be £42.5m, although - I can't see us even spending over £15m with the current setup! Obviously we won't spend anything like £42m on a player, nor should we. But we should be prepared to spend £15m on the right player, though its incredibly doubtful we would anytime soon.

Their wage outlay is sky-high though, isn't it? Not relative to their revenue (third lowest wage to revenue ratio in the league I think) and not in comparison to other top 4 sides. That's one of the reasons they lose their best players to other top 4 clubs.

It would explain why anyone would even think of hiring Joe Kinnear. Though I still don't subscribe to the idea of all our bids being fake, I think we are willing to spend but only certain players and only for what we consider the right price. Kinnear takes the blame if that strategy ends with no more signings.

The rest we could really, really do with. 3 games in and Jonas and Shola have already had starts, and academy lad has played at left back, and we've been an injury/suspension away from having to play Mike Williamson and fucking Rob Elliott.
