Word of warning, there've been many other geordie "fans" in charge of newcastle over the years, not many of them would be accused of putting the clubs best interests at heart. One you even mention in your post. Did Shepherd ever go to watch Newcastle as a fan before being involved with the club though?

Looks like it was written by a blithering idiot.
-
Well we'll see if he's talking shit tomorrow then.
-
Apparently Hogdson's paid a very competitive fee for a player of Duff's age and calibre. He must be very pleased to have pulled the deal off according to SSN.
-
Would be good at this level, alot of pace. Personally don't think he has alot of pace anymore. He is still quick, but he's not rapid anymore by any means. He's not as quick as he once was but he still has a lot of pace. He's a quick player by Premiership standards, which makes him fucking grease lightning in the Championship

On the other hand winning 3:0 last time around and the match not being on TV will convinced more people to turn up. I'm going to guess at 38,000.

Fulham fans are in for a fucking rude awakening like
-
Where's the two other consortiums come from by the way? (David Craig??) SSN just says "Newcastle confirm club in takeover talks with Barry Moat".
-
I think there's a big difference between that comment and this one to be honest.
-
Didn't realise what he was doing at first, sneaky bastard

87,000 Euro's according to that article, who knows if that's true but if it is he's on £75,000 a week He's on £70k. That's what I thought, though that article disagrees.

Well obviously he hasn't been appointed yet and won't be appointed until the takeover is agreed. So I assume the rumour is that the takeover is expected to be agreed by Wednesday at which time Shearer would be officially appointed. Is it bullshit?, probably.
-
AFAICS it would just mean he's personally guaranteeing that the overdraft he put in place originally will still be paid despite the change of ownership.

Fucking hell, I'm going out

Wrong - the motivation is different - lending to a football club has massive PR and reputational risks attached as well as the obvious risk assessment from ability to fund and repay the debt. That has an impact on the appetite in the first place but additionally has an impact on the bank staying in when perhaps they might normally have pulled out - do Barclays want to be the local bank that put the club under? The motivation is profit. If Barclays think they'll lose massive sums of money they'll pull out no matter what. If they even considered staying in due to not wanting to send the club down it would purely be for fear of losing money from customers. Fair enough that eliment doesn't come into it if I got a loan there, but lets not make this into some convoluted discussion. My point was simple, Barclays are motivated here by profit, they aren't doing us a favour. You've already agreed with that earlier so I'm not sure why we're still discussing this.
-
I was talking about the motivation for it being no different, obviously the scale of the overdraft is different.
-
A favour? Don't be stupid, its an investment. No different to giving me or you an overdraft (it won't be interest free).

And we only have championship income and a championship budget. It's all relative. We really don't, I'd be very surprised if any Championship side has half our income this year. Of course we also still have a ludicrous wage bill. Still as long as we only pay him around £20k a week I don't see any risk.
-
Of course, but we do have a full part Argie international winger for now.
-
Fucking idiots
-
He was always going to get a chance in a few friendlies given how many games he played for the U21's, he'll never be much more then a bit part player in the full side though.
-
The net value of the club won't have changed. Instead of having (Numbers meaning nothing as I'm completely making them up) £100m worth of players and £80m worth of debt, we'll have £30m worth of players and £10m worth of debt. Unless Ashley trousers the money rather than reducing the debt, of course. He'll not because that would be illegal... ashley can use the money to reduce his debt because he had lent 100m to newcastle PLC which stated in annual report 2008 is it illegal ? I'd assume certain debts will be priority and will have to be paid first, the overdraft for one. Even if that isn't the case and he did manage to pay back some of his loan with it he'd then only put himself in a position were he'd have to loan it back later in the year in order to pay the short fall between the clubs outgoings and incomings.
-
Like Cajun says that's just not true anymore, it was under Shepherd but hasn't been the case with Ashley.

Fuck I hope so, I've always said this league is shit and a lot of people were overestimating it. But it really does feel good to see someone who's seen a lot of this league say something that positive.
