That's the spirit. Have to seek the positives wherever possible. Starts getting trickier if we get through to the last 16, though, with Stoke (h), Europa (a), Wigan (a) and Europa (h) being played within 11 days between 7th March and 17th March.

The first knockout round comes at a pretty decent time, especially if we haven't progressed into the FA Cup 5th Round. First leg will be the Thursday after Spurs (a), which is a 12.45pm Saturday kickoff. Second leg will be the Thursday before Southampton (h), which will likely be bumped to a Sunday 3pm slot. If we're not in the FA Cup there's no game between the ties. We couldn't have done much better really, from that perspective.

I do agree that he needs to get back to what he was doing when he first signed FWIW, but people writing him off want their heads seeing to. Use him as a base midfielder behind two others and simply get him patrolling side-to-side, winning the ball back and distributing it neatly. I honestly don't mind the pirouettes either, when they're done in a controlled fashion at least. He's getting isolated in too many silly areas at the minute and his decision making has been poor though. Symptomatic of our team unfortunately. He was like a metronome for us when he first came, the difference he made to the team was incredible. I don't see why he's been moved away from that.

I think he's one of the biggest problems, mainly because he's our primary attacking outlet in many matches. Indeed. He's been alright lately but having a good footballer at right-back would add a hell of a lot to the team going forwards. I'm fairly sure Pardew et al. are aware of this though, so I'm hoping to see some movement. My only worry for January is that Williamson has leapfrogged him in the shitness stakes so we'll only focus on getting a centre-half in. We'll see.
