Who knows but reports suggested talks were promising? So there must have been discussions to lead to the bids?

Lots of games go in transfer deals and briefing press for various reasons. They may not want to sell but why entertain discussions then? Could be to placate their fans in the run up to a sale, “we didn’t want to sell but the player made his wishes known and despite acting professionally throughout we didn’t want to risk an unhappy player with a hard campaign ahead”. Who really knows. In saying that we should have done all of this a month ago instead of wasting time on Ekitike and Sesko.

Doesn’t necessarily mean anything, he could like his teammates and the club but want a move for career progression.

Not sure who this is directed at but my position has always been we have to pay over the odds as we don’t have a striker. JSL scored 14 last season in a poor team and I’ve stated I’d be happy with him. Given that’s our situation then get on and pay what’s required as we won’t get better for less. Not signing a competent striker will be detrimental to our season and verges on negligence. Seeing as we were willing to pay larger fees for Etikite and Sesko the money is there so I fail to see why we’ve not met their asking.

That was the opinion of others not mine. The price is the price which is dependant upon the circumstances.

Once we get the Wilson replacement we’re not so desperate and clubs can’t exploit us as much. Right now if Isak leaves we need two strikers and we’ll have to pay way over, that’s before finding willing sellers so late.

If there’s a chance to compromise for this season I think it’s better to be pragmatic and do it considering we’ve not been successful finding Wilson's replacement let alone his.

Give him a pay bump, tell him to sort himself out and play well until the end of the season and we’ll sell him for £150m to anyone but Liverpool.

No, we’re always naive against them. Always trying to push for the winner and getting sucker punched. Sometimes you just have shut up shop and take the point. Edit: to say I thought the players gave it there all and have no arguments with that.
