I wouldn`t try and get too technical about football with most on here, they have stadium and armchair level of football knowledge. I have tried to explain before that its alot to do with the fullbacks and the rest of the team. No attacking threat or pace up front also causes a great deal of pressure on the defence. I think if you put any defender who is below International selection standard in our team they will end up looking a cunt, i`m pretty sure we won`t be getting one of those in a hurry, yet people are saying sell and replace like its as easy as a computer game. Titus will probably never be up there with the likes of Terry and co especially with his blunders but we need him for a few years until we prove ourselves to be any good again. Even our so called best defender Taylor has been exposed this season and made some pretty dumb decisions this season and last.

Same for me. I also voted Millwall and Sunderland.

I don`t think its just to do with the defenders. It doesn`t matter who you have in defence if your not an attacking threat. The opposition will just push up and pepper your goal until they score knowing they only have to leave a few back. Having a bit of pace back in the team Dyer/Martins means the other team have to leave midfielders back too. Some peoples understanding of football on this forum does make me laugh. It is also to do with not getting caught on the break as we have no real full backs you will notice we don`t push on down the flanks as much as usual and are having to find other ways to goal, through the middle mainly. -
If we paid 11m for Harewood I would personally risk life in prison for stabbing FF in the eye with a fork ! You can hold me to that one aswell.

No Luque is only half way there, you need 2 whole assists like Emre to be the assist king I will be honest with you Gemmill, i`m being unbiased here because I really couldn`t give a flying fuck. I`ve never met the man. I can see he doesn`t look the part and i`m gutted we stand to lose so much money on him. I joined this Luque debate well late into it. I`m more wishing him to do well not for me to be proven right but for the club. We need goals and the stats don`t lie.
-
How many league goals and assists has Luque got for us? Duff has been a let down. But he's still proven himself more effective on the left wing than Luque. Premiership Player Starts (Subs) Gls (Conc) Asst Yellow Red Damien Duff 12 (0) 1 0 1 0 1 goal in Twelve games, no assists. Albert Luque 0 (3) 0 0 1 0 3 Sub apperances when losing. Uefa/ intertoto Damien Duff 4 (1) 0 0 Albert Luque 4 (2) 2 1 The only thing Duff has proven is that he can run fast, not as fast as Dyer or Martins and has energy. The stats prove he is less effective than Luque.

You do for reading my post and commenting.

The question is who IS better not who will be better. Luque has done more for the club so far in less games, goals and assists. I can`t see why some people prefer a player who runs around and looks the part on the pitch ( Duff ) but has given us nothing over a player that has given us goals ( 1 even against the mackems) and an important assist and goal in europe. If people are voting Duff because how good he HAS been then its fair to do the same with Luque. Its fair to say Duff has done fuck all here so far in more minutes on the pitch than Luque.
-
I think he is playing the same as when SBR was here. I thought he was Nothing special at the time. I hope he refinds his form
-
What do people think of this? 3 months ago I would have been happy to see the back of him but he's performed well when we've needed him this season. I thought he was after a winger, Milner or Zog.
-
 Who's your choice at right-back then NS? I would go for Neville as best RB too, I really can`t think of anyone with as much experience and consistancy.
-
Dunno, like. AFAIK, we've only won three times this season and two of those wins are down to goals from Parker. Sorry, I was referring to Luque from the previous post. Gotcha. The Bramble tackling stat doesn't surprise me. His tackling is normally very good, it's just his terrible ****-ups--marking, positioning, ball-watching, air-kicks--that get people on his back. Yeah thats a shame.

Completely agree it would be mental. I was trying to think of one of the only teams in the premiership that puts passing and intelligent positions before workrate. Basically thats what we got with Luque. Someone who isn`t a firery player but can finish and take up intelligent positions. Unfortunatly one of the only decent balls played to him by our players was the Milner cross he scored from. Team NEWCASTLE UNITED League Rank Games 13 Goals 8 19 Shots 118 12 Conversion % 7% 19 Passes 4750 8 Good passing Pass % 72% 9 Also good passing but its all backwards Crosses 277 14 There is the problem Duff/Milner Cross % 17% 20 There is the problem Duff/Milner Tackles 375 1 Says it all really we never keep the ball Tackle % 74% 17 The most tackles but rarely won Fouls 189 7 Yellow Cards 27 3 Red Cards 1 8 Shooting Player Shots Shot % 1 Scott Parker 18 44.4% 2 Obafemi Martins 18 22.2% 3 Damien Duff 13 69.2% 4 Shola Ameobi 11 54.5% 5 Charles N Zogbia 10 30.0% Passing Player Passes Pass % 1 Scott Parker 556 80.6% 2 Stephen Carr 440 74.5% 3 Belozoglu Emre 400 83.5% 4 Craig Moore 393 73.5% 5 Titus Bramble 354 58.8% Titus ahead of our wingers Crossing Player Crosses Cross % 1 Belozoglu Emre 64 25.0% 2 Damien Duff 51 15.7% 3 James Milner 49 20.4% 4 Stephen Carr 27 7.4% 5 Nolberto Solano 22 18.2% No left back crosses Tackling Player Tackles Tackle % 1 Scott Parker 73 75.3% 2 Craig Moore 37 70.3% 3 Stephen Carr 32 75.0% 4 Titus Bramble 29 82.8% Good percentage considering the stick he gets 5 Belozoglu Emre 28 78.6% Dribbling Player Dribbles Dribble % 1 James Milner 38 52.6% 2 Charles N Zogbia 33 54.5% 3 Damien Duff 25 56.0% Surely Duff should be top. 4 Belozoglu Emre 20 45.0% 5 Scott Parker 14 64.3%

Not sure what thread to put this in, I have been half following the Luque thread. Now what Fergie is saying about Carrick could that apply to Luque. Some have written him off because he doesn`t run around like a headless chicken and tackling back when the team is under pressure. What Luque does do when given the chance is get in the right positions to score as he has done when the odd cross does actually appear in the right place. I think it's safe to say that Alex Ferguson wouldn't be offering up a similar defence for Luque if he was turning in the performances for MUFC that he has for NUFC. Thats true, I reckon Fergie would rip his head off, but the main bit is as long as he is doing what he is paid to do who cares how he goes about it. Lets face it if our team was class then he wouldn`t have to have the headless chicken bit as a big must for the team. When Arsenal were class you never saw Henry covering the whole pitch like a gimp. I think I have come to the conclusion that although he maybe a class player he isn`t cut out for a team like ours. He is more suited to a team that puts passing ahead of workrate.

bluelaugh.gif bluelaugh.gif Comedy Gold. I agree, that shoudl be fine...... Except Ameobi is nowhere near a good enough striker. No-****ing-where near. And Dire is neither a striker, nor a good enough forward to be part of a top-4 striker force. And Martins has done nothing t prove he is good enough for a top 4 side. Of course, its a moot point, as there are very few players in our squad good enough for that level anyway. I nearly replied to this but then I realised that no one bothers anymore with him. Why does he still post on a forum when everyone ignores his usual nothing else to write bullshit. Self-confessed sheep. Maybe i should be all jovial and happy and pretend we are a good enough team with a good enough manager? I don't think so. Maybe you'd be happier then, though, if everyone posted the same happy-clappy bollocks? Not a sheep really, just not repetitive like yourself. I think we worked eachother out a couple of years ago and have even agreed in the past on the odd occassion. Its just you haven`t changed your posts since I first joined a couple of years ago. I was merely stating I nearly started to repeat myself like you. I fully understand why people are pissed off, I am too. Do us all a favour and just change your name to "I Hate Dyer" because regardless of what he does for us on the pitch when he is finally fit you still manage to slate him for what he did to you off the pitch. Its less about this post but read your sig ffs its pathfetic. You hope Dyer gets crocked for good, who if stays fit could keep us up.

I was taking the piss, about the Ipswich thing, but think about how many ex-Ipswich players now play in the premiership and how many from our youth ranks are in the premiership now compared to NUFC. Just a little dig at being able to watch players grow from a young age first hand to premiership players. Darren Bent, Darren Ambrose, Keiron Dyer, Titus Bramble, Richard Wright, Hermann Heirdosson, Matt Holland those I can remember off the top of my head, a few for the future Billy Clarke and Danny Haynes ( FA Youth Cup Winners 2 seasons back) . Anyway Thats completely off topic. Also its not being mates with Titus that I was getting at, I get to speak to more than just him, coming from alot of those players home town, they used to bring rio and sol and loads of others out on the piss down here. At the end of the day your right I suppose it doesn`t matter what any of us think about how good he looks in training or his past record or what the scouts think he could still end up being a flop, bigger names have but I still think he is going to be an awsome signing for us. You think its too early to tell...fair play thats our opinions sorted.

Sorry, is there a difference between the two? Or does your definition of a top 4 team include teams outside of those currently recognised as the top 4? Now you're comparing Martins to Schevchenko. Could your argument get any more stupid? By the way, I know you're probably a well-renowned footballing scout who has followed the career of many a footballing talent from its inception to their eventual crowning as World Footballer of the Year, but if you don't mind I'll take your "I know he'll be a top player" line with a pinch of salt. Because basically you know nothing of the sort. As to whether Wenger was impressed or not - I don't know. Neither do you. I certainly hope he'll be a top player, but based on what I've seen so far, I'm not about to make any stupid predictions, announce that he's good enough for the top 4 sides, or compare him to the Champions League's highest ever goalscorer. Wenger was quoted as saying that. As for the top scout comment no i`m not but coming from a town that constantly produces good players un like newcastle i would probably have a better idea than you mate. Also having been around with a few prem players I probably have more of a real idea what really goes on up there than yourself. Obas stats are : - Italian league 28 goals in 88 games Champions league 11 goals in 2 seasons of cl Nigeria 12 goals in 15 games. At his age thats not bad. At the end of day Gemmil I feel that he is a player of a top 4 team calibre, you don`t....fair enough but enough of the my arguements are stupid comments yeah, it makes you look a right knob just because I disagree with you and you me.

A miserable fucker no doubt, but talks more sense than most on here IMO - and let's face it, what's not to be miserable about with NUFC at the minute. Although I don't agree with his stance on Dyer. Its not the grumpy part its the fact that 90% of the time its a black player he can`t stand. I don`t agree with what he has wrote about Dyer either, his finish against Lehman was class, i`ve seen international strikers mess easier up. The part about Martins is rubbish imo as most can see that he is good enough for a top 4 team. The quality of his 3 goals added to his pace, strength and age shows this. Once he is settled in we will be laughing. I'm not having that there's anything racist behind his dislike of certain players tbh. Quite how you're getting that Martins has shown that he's good enough for a top 4 team is beyond me though - the jury is still out in a BIG way, and anyone can score nice goals from time to time. What top 4 teams are you thinking of then? And what strikers do you think he won`t compare too. Baring in mind Owen is our main striker and Oba is our second what top 4 team second choice do think he is worse than in there first 3 months brought into the country and had the same amount of games? Take Reyes for example took months and months settle, his first goal for Arsenal was an own goal. Drobga wasn`t as good in his first year as now but we all knew he was going to be class, I can go on. You can go on as much as you like, but you aren't making any sense. Your argument seems to be that because other top 4 club strikers have started slowly at their respective clubs, as Martins has at NUFC that that means he's as good as any top 4 club striker. What exactly have you seen from Martins that tells you that he's good enough for a top 4 club? Other than the fact that he's had a slow start here. Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea all have at least two strikers that look better than Martins. I think your argument is total bullshit tbh. No one is trying to say that he's shit, but for you to come along and say he's good enough to get in any of the top 4 sides is taking things to a ridiculous extreme and is just plain wrong based on the evidence to date. Yourself and NM have stated in your posts not good enough for a top 4 team. Now your saying to get in a current top 4 side. Seeing Martins play for Inter Milan and seeing what he has produced so early in his NUFC career coupled with what I have heard direct from players at the club I know he will be a top player. I`m sure Wenger was impressed too at the weekend. Basically i`m saying he has started his first season in the prem better than what say Shev at Chelsea has or other players that have come over new to a side. Would you be sitting at Stamford bridge slagging Shevchenko off if you were are Chelsea fan or would you shut your mouth and wait for him to come good?

Wenger benched Henry because Henry is saying he is still knackered from the world cup and hasn`t recovered properly. If they didn`t have european game this week he would have started. I think Wenger is putting the champions league before the premiership this year. If Wenger was showing us disrespect he would have used a few less first teamers.
