  1. All the other teams in the league will improve. Standing still is going backwards, not bringing anyone in would be a disaster imo. Edit: just re-read and think I may have misunderstood your comment. You mean bringing a few in after the season starts is fine?
  2. Joelinton and Howe said when asked about it ‘we’d rather keep those sort of targets within the group’ or words to that effect.
  3. I'd be gutted to see Paqueta go elsewhere in the Prem.
  4. Wilson wanted to vote for himself as well
  5. Oh well. My only interest in the sponsor is how much it allows us to spend on transfers. We can still have a good window this summer and use any sponsorship boost next season to continue spending.
  6. If the buy out is less than £3.5m it makes complete sense.
  7. I think Wilson will start the first game up top. He’d want away to start elsewhere with all his talk of getting into the England team for the WC. He wouldn’t be moving his family up here if he’d been told we’re in for a first choice ahead of him.
  8. Too early in the morning for me to wrap my head around this. Assume it's a joke gone over my head.
  9. Ake is probably the best of the ex Howe players we’ve been linked with.
  10. Weirdly specific, hoping it’s bullshit.
  11. I’m not convinced we’ll sign anyone who’ll expect to start up top every game ahead of Wilson. I think they might ‘gamble’ on Wilson and sign more of an understudy (Ekitike type) as well as look to provide cover from one of the other positions we move for (eg a RW who can also play up top). We’re in the unfortunate position where Wilson is one of our few players with the quality to take us to the next level…but he’s potentially not going to available for a decent chunk of the season.
  12. If this were the case then I think the RW would also need to capable of playing up top to cover for Wilson.
  13. You'd have to be pretty dense to think they haven't.
  14. Where's this coming from?
  15. Wow what a stadium that looks to be.
  16. If the 600m figure is anywhere near accurate (before any increases in revenue through improved sponsorship) it seems pretty reasonable to me to spend 1/4 or even 1/3 of that up front in the first big window. Leaves plenty of wiggle room for the future. There’s an athletic interview with Staveley Ghodoussi where they state the only limit on spending will be FFP. You can add another limit with Eddie’s desire to keep the group mentality but we’ve got as much money as we need to spend within those 2 limiting factors! I guess £150m.
  17. They may even be delaying the announcement of a new sponsor in order to get some signings over the line while we are still constrained by the current finances.
  18. Hours that can bring news for transfer. The striker has many options to reach the Premier. Newcastle, under Arab control, is willing to pay what Benfica wants. There is talk of an amount close to 100 million euros. #NUFC Newcastle today is the one best positioned to take it. The crown prince of Arabia, Bin Salman bets very strongly to put together a team that will fight for the title. The obstacle? They will not have Champions in 2022/23. All this is defined by Jorge Mendes, representative of Núñez.
  19. Imagine our first signing is Nunez for 100 millions euros.
  20. The ‘price severely inflated’ doesn’t really stand up in the face of villa (also with money to spend) signing Carlos this week for ~£26m. Feels like a continuation of the January craic in the absence of new information to report before his jollies. When you think about it FFP should pretty much rules out any ‘you’re minted so pay us way over the odds’ tax. Selling clubs know FFP exists which gives us a reasonable bargaining position for not paying significantly inflated prices. the negotiations with us should be no different than with any other club - centred on how the two sides value the player. Might be wishful thinking on that one.
  21. The thought had crossed my mind but then why hasn’t Targett been signed?
  22. Depends so much on what formation Howe sees us playing next year. Not instantly signing Targett and being heavily linked with Lodi does seem to suggest he's looking at his 4-4-2 or a 4-2-3-1 with width provided from the full back positions. Paqueta would fit perfectly for us in this scenario. If we go in for Diaby then maybe he's looking to stick with the 4-3-3 which we've had so much success with this season. Either way, we'll know more soon.
