As things stand, there is no intention of spending big money on players in the January window, although it has been stressed to Telegraph Sport that if the right player becomes available – such as Leicester City’s James Maddison – a deal will be pursued. So we won’t buy anyone unless it’s the right player and they’re available? And no spending big money but we would take Maddison? Fuck off man

This is why I think we'll look to sign 2 or 3 at least in January. The obvious benefit is the push for Europe but it also allows a few more players bedded into the squad this season. Signing 1 in January and then qualifying means we need major numbers in the summer which Howe clearly won't want to do as it risks the harmony.

Lascelles, on the touch line, with an energy gel sachet in each hand delaying the thrown in so we could get into shape sums up the squad mentality at the minute.

Since day one Howe hasn’t dropped a player in form for a player everyone else presumes should be a starter. ASM has 30 minutes under his belt after a hefty layoff and Murphy has actually been quite effective. Fully expect Murphy to start. What sort of message does it send to the players that have played well only to get dropped at the first sniff. Getting a result at the weekend isn’t dependant on ASM starting, trust in Eddie.
