I was in the front few rows of the East Stand too, towards the Lazes. I'll have to dig out my ticket tonight and check. -

I'll just have to dig out the old (recorded off the tele) VHS, complete with Jimmy Hill telling us that Peter Beardsley's 'special effort' was too late for goal of the season along with one by Kerry Dixon. That was some day. I wonder how many on here were there? I was, aged 6, and can still remember it vividly. Especially the lap of honour from Kev. -

Can you get this on Cable (Virgin)? -
Trialists I was at the game and don't get too excited about the trialists. The keeper had nowt to do but pick the ball out of the net and the other one played at left back and did nowt apart from go down injured. I could post their names but that would defeat the point of calling them trialist. Both were only kids though. The game in general was very disappointing from our point of view. The Hearts kids were just better and while there were individual touches from players like Shane Ferguson, the final ball was lacking. Only in a brief spell in the 2nd half was anything coming off with Zamblera and Tozer going close. By the look of their players though they were a lot older and by far the best player on the pitch, in my eyes, was their right back Thompson (or similar). For us Danquah was assured playing in central midfield and Andy Mogwo looked far better when he moved to centre back. Kenny Wharton didn't look too pleased but with some key players away on International and first team duty this team at least should have a chance to strengthen through the early season. Not sure anyone was screaming for elevation to the first team subs bench but i'm guessing most of this lot will sense progression to at least the reserves with the inevitable departure of the stars.

Surely if he's interested in it full time, doing it in the interim is the best job interview he could if he wants to prove himself to future owners.

Absolutely sickening - Robson's charity to foot the bill for charity match
leazes.ender replied to James's topic in Football
So in the charitable spirit of things the police should have worked for free and passed the council tax costs onto you for that, and obviously you offered to be a steward and work for free likewise, and the catering staff worked for free and the electricity compancy gave free electricity for the lights and ..... Costs are just that and Charities can claim back VAT to reduce overheads for such events. No way should there be an expectation to give away things like this given the massive costs of running SJP for an event like this. Giving away a function suite for a day would be different. Would you be expecting us to do the same if ITV did that match thing again from which proceeds went to Charity. Clubs have to be consistent or they'd be expected to give away to everything that came their way. -
Why hell if Al is 'waiting for the call' don't we just put him on a week to week or monthly contract to run until the sale goes through. That way it looks like Ashley is doing something positive, the buyers will see that the club will have some sort of managerial leadership, and we're more likely to start the season positively on the pitch, which will further attract potential buyers. Its not going to solve the issue of playing staff but in theory he could sort out some loans that aren't going to cost us anything long term.

So how positive are you feeling about the takeover?
leazes.ender replied to Dave's topic in Football
I don't think its going to happen, but don't think its anything to do with Ashley. I just don't think anyone is really interested in buying as they are too fearful about what relegation means long term in terms of costs and reduced income. -
Where do you start with the number of facts he got wrong in that article, without needing to get involved in the endless, but perfectly valid, airport, hotel, railway, shopping, cultural, entertainment.... debate. What a tool. "Sadly though, the other two are far from it, and it's understandable when their age is considered" - That'll be the 14 year old Gallowgate then? "Best stadia in the United Kingdom" - From some boz eyed journo who only ever see the gold taps in the main stand. "in 1966 when Roker (not Middlesbrough's Ayresome)... Park hosted the World Cup - Excluding England's matches in '66 arguably the most famous game was at Ayresome when Pak Doo-ik took the Italians apart playing for Korea. "Gateshead, Co Durham" - Possibly if Ryanair was using it to pretend s*nd*el*nd had an airport. and my personal favourite.... "to eyes in London and eyes abroad, Sunderland is regarded ...." - I think he misspelt retarded

Utrecht game cancelled, playing Leyton Orient (a) £45rtn Train
leazes.ender replied to Crumpy Gunt's topic in Football
So maybe a hundred Toon fans going to holland is going to cause problems? Good luck with the trains to Edinburgh on the 2nd when we go to Dundee Utd and the mackems are coming back having played Celtic at the Tattiedome the previous day. -
Games moved for TV - latest is Nottingham Forest (a)
leazes.ender replied to Crumpy Gunt's topic in Football
If you check out the Sky listing its still missing some games over October and the end of November, so there may be others moved too. One example is the weekend we play Donny at home there is nothing scheduled. -
In this case most of us know exactly where she's been.....

Stories about the Utrecht game being off or moved and now .com are saying "rumours persist that this game could be scrapped or rescheduled due to the mackems playing in Amsterdam" The inbreds on RTG are being paranoid as usual: http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=420316. Take the hint and build your own airport, ferry, train station...... -
Sorted for the Arabs and tempted by Utrecht but according to .com "rumours persist that this game could be scrapped or rescheduled due to the mackems playing in Amsterdam". Damn. How about they save the continent the bother and cancel the mackems going instead.

BBC games were supposed to be Sunday afternoons to avoid clashing with Sky tea-time Championship games. However on the first weekend there is no Premiership game in the Setanta slot and no Sky Championship game. -

leazes.ender replied to Crumpy Gunt's topic in Football
Seems strange that Sky have dropped their published 12:30 Saturday slot to move a game to a Friday night unless on Smoggy police advice !!! Even more nailed on that BBC will show is now i think as there isn't much left. Cardiff's first game at their new ground or Leicester's return to the 2nd tier? Doubt it. EDIT - Sheffield United's website say that further fixture changes are due to be announced later this afternoon. http://www.sufc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10418~1705570,00.html -
2-0 after 30 mins. Craine and Onuoha.

He doesn't know they changed the boundaries so the airport in in Newcastle, where as 100m down the road is castle Morpeth or what ever it is called now, also his argument is flawed. German WC Kaiserslautern hosted games, and they got relegated a few years back and are still in league B. And never mind Leipzig who are in some amateur leage and all the S'affa grounds which are white elephants and destined never to host football.

Some knob posting after the times article on their bid calls it the "North East's International Airport" as its in Ponteland. He then claims it should be them as they have a PremierLeague club at least 9 years before the competition could be played. "Oh dear, a few responses in and already we have 'our neighbours' up the road attempting to devalue Sunderland's bid. In response to Joker, the north east's international airport is in Ponteland not Newcastle. Additinally, I would imagine FIFA stipulate that a ground is of a club in the top league. " http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/sunderland/article6578220.ece What next billing the Bridges as the North East's finest shopping experience? Everyone shoul follow the link off the bid page and vote for Newcastle/Gateshead just in case.

Pre-season friendlies now all confirmed - see Championship guide sticky
leazes.ender replied to James's topic in Football
I'm guessing that we'd arranged our flights and training accomodation (for players etc) a while back for the Ajax tournament, which we were supposed to be in, so have just tried to arrange a game over there as a replacement. I think those games are Friday and Sun so would have avoided the Saturday. However gettin relegated scuppered all those plans. -

They've confirmed Hibs on the 27th July as well so seems plausible. Also the fact they are announcing in a few days ties in with the need to wait for us to agree.
