We need to strengthen both defence and attack. Before Martins started scoring in every game, we were among the least scoring teams in the Premiership. We can't rely on Sibierski (and Dyer) to score all our goals whenever Martins gets injured or has a dip in form. I just don't think it's feasible for us to splash out 9 million on another striker, I long for the day we actually build a team from the back.

I'm sick of hearing people going on about spending big money again on a striker, we need to see what Owen's like when he comes back first before splashing out on another striker when the defence needs sorting out.

I'd prefer giving than receiving but what are you gonna do?

Dawson's vastly overrated, I remember even Shearer out pacing him.

"One very good defender and Warren Barton."

Aye he was the benchmark of awesomeness. But could his pant-wettingly magnificent partnership with Ferdinand have been better than a partnership with the two excellent strikers we currently have on our books? Personally I don't think so.

Tbh Shearer 96/97 was the best English striker of all time and would have been awesome with anyone.
-
Why? you after him like? Nah, just needed to ask that so I could ask the follow up question: Would an 18 year old really get his 13 year old brother to ask for permission to join this forum? He's not really asking for permission is he, just more of a check if the same IP's can be used.

What actually gets me about this is oh people will just say having a laugh or whatever, but it's disrespecting a whole nation who pin their hopes on this overpaid pricks everytime they put on that Three Lions.

http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/united.shtml Glad to see the World Cup disgrace meant a lot to some of the England players there then. I thought it was just their fans but christ do get over the fact Shearer turned them down, it was 10 years ago now. We know you lot have won however many trophies but my oh my get over the fact one player turned you down. I bet Delima can't wait to watch this video of how some of his favourite players relax. :winking:

Your favourite ever NUFC player.. is a keeper? Damn reet. I idolised that man when I was a nipper. No wonder you hate Shaka so much then. :winking:

It was nice for him to be part of the World Cup winning side this year I thought. A player who has stuck with (largely) one club throughout his career and given his all for the national side, with that much talent, and opportunity deserves a bit of luck. I dunno why but I always had a feeling he would sign for us one day, especially during the Keegan era. Funny. Del Piero has been so overrated it's untrue throughout his entire career, he was a shadow of the player post 99 and that knee injury, only about two seasons ago he was actually consistent and was a vital part in Juve winning the title with that overhead kick at Meelan to set up Trezeguet I think it was. Over than that he's been overrated due to his status as some sort of demi-god by the Juventus fans. Granted Del Piero was never the same player after his knee injury but he was still pretty special for Juve throughout the years. It's because he hasnt really done that much at international level (apart from in the summer) that he's not considered as highly. If he didn't get that injury he would have been one of the best ever for me. Del Boy gets my vote I think it was tragic the treatment Roberto Baggio got at the hands of the media post USA '94 when he carried the team to the final by themselves, and for all the plaudits to be heaped on Del Piero who post 99 done absolutely nothing to be even mentioned in the same breath as the greatest Italian player of all time.. who may I add suffered worse injuries than Del Piero throughout his career but at the age of 36 was single handedly keeping a Brescia team up in Serie A to go along with all the over accolades of his great career.

Could have a striker crisis on our hands then, what with Owen having his pre Euro 2008 rest from the game...

The next one is 2008 I think.
