But we really grew into the game, every one of the lads. The more we grew in confidence, the more Leeds retreated. The one player who epitomized this in-game growth was Willock. Began the game a little lethargic and felt like it was going to be the same old from him, but then he began to stretch them. His runs were incisive, his passing effortless, and he should’ve scored in the end with that beautiful passage of play with ASM. Now onto Wood. He finally offers us a focal point at the tip of our formation, and in doing so occupies at least one defender at all times, leaving the likes of ASM and Fraser to run into space. However, for a majority of the game, he lacked any and all instincts that make up a striker. “Wood was on his heels,” as the commentator put it during one half chance where he could have pressured their defender on the line. But it just feels good to have A body up there now. And I am hoping he comes good in the way of better positioning, goals and killer instinct.

Wood has been horrendous so far. Really needs to step up.

was it against Birmingham that we were absolutely dreadful in the first half and went into HT 0-1 down? I was convinced we were finally going down (lol just remembering the dread at the concept of our first relegation). But incredibly, Owen pulled it back for us in the second half and it was a changed team from then on.

I’ve long come to accept that every single meme and conspiracy theory, when related to NUFC, is 100% true or just on the verge of becoming true. As stated, I’m fully behind him. I genuinely like the bloke, and he and his team fill me with joy when I see them gesticulating on the touchline. But results do matter.

I think the point is one rooted in objectivity. Any other club, any other year, and a manager who took over in October, received full backing of owners in the transfer window, full backing of fans, spoke about getting a tune out of the squad he took over, but ultimately gets relegated, it would be deemed a failure. Where the blame lies or is attributed is for all of us to parse, but a failure it is, and, objectively, that man in charge has to own some of it. This goes for any walk of life, in any job.

Spot on. And I actually like Howe, and am fully behind him. And don’t think he’s Parker. But this idea that we cannot criticize him or ask questions, or that 27 games (!) is not enough to judge him on, with a full transfer window, is insane.

That is what I am getting at. Why haven’t we seen ANY bounce at all, not just with an addition of a new coach, but the entire club, from top to bottom? It’s just really strange. And before the “not FM bro” brigade jump in, I am not laying all the blame on Howe for this. I am genuinely wondering.

I’m as anti Bruce as the next guy, but there was a period of marked upturn and actual wins when Jones joined, and we employed his system of Wilson on the wing / wide forward. This was also around the time, or maybe just before, Willock joined or hit purple patch. We shouldn't rewrite history as we can learn from it. Or at the very least, observe it.

Totally agree. I do enjoy the sight of people with a healthy BMI on our touchline though.
