Reading this thread, I have to say that the "Ashley can't ever be in the right because he's a fat Cockney cunt and I hate him" crowd really ought to investigate the principle of Occam's Razor. The usual reason players hand in transfer requests is because they wish to request a transfer.

So we don't have to pay the player a 'loyalty bonus' when they leave. Would have saved us millions on Carroll as often players are entitled to 10% of the transfer fee if they haven't asked to leave. Have heard it said numerous times that players often have loyalty clauses in their contracts like this, so wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Carroll and Given had them too and that we made them hand in transfer requests in order to waive their right to this money in order to leave for massively better contracts. How did we "make them hand in transfer requests" if they didn't want to leave?

It's only because Wullie, Colocho and the like define "fan" as anyone who doesn't include the words "fat cunt" in any and all mentions of Ashley and fails to whine and whinge the entire fucking time.

Ashley shouldn't have tried to pander to supporter sentiment by appointing Keegan. Keegan shouldn't have accepted the job when he knew there was going to be a DOF in the picture. Ashley and Wise shouldn't have tried to foist players on Keegan. Keegan shouldn't have walked out on the last day of the transfer window. And the Keegan fan-boys should accept that not every toon supporter is prone to adolescent hero worship.

I had just locked up the record shop where I worked at the time and turned away from the door. A bus was going past at the time and I reckon the shooter was probably on the top deck of that. I didn't know what had happened at first. It hit me with the force of a stone flung hard, but there was none of the weight of a stone, or any noise or feel of one dropping to the ground or clattering away after impact. It was only when I reached the pub on the corner and looked at my reflection in the toilet mirror, seeing this small airgun-pellet sized mark near the corner of my eye, that I realized what must have happened. As for the other incident, I was but a lad, alone, and the guys with the airgun were bigger than me. I ran for it. Never thought of going to the police or anything. Street trouble was common.

Someone (no idea who -- it was on a busy street in London) once shot me with an air rifle. The pellet hit one side of the bridge of my nose, about a centimetre from my left eye. As I can't see properly out of my right eye, I was that far away from being effectively blinded. Shook me right up. OK, so these things are usually fairly harmless (another time, some kid in Newcastle shot at me from over the road, and the pellet just pinged ineffectually off the sleeve of my denim jacket) but the right/wrong shot can cause serious damage.
