I know it's not politically correct on here to credit the club with anything, and many seem to think their manhood might be in question if they don't take as pessimistic a view as possible, but I'm feeling happier about how things are going than I have done for ages. Pardew obviously isn't Mourinho, but he's looking like an upgrade on Hughton. Tiote was the find of the season and we've still got Hatem Ben Arfa to look forward to. Four points off the mackems, four points off Arsenal, thrashings of any team in claret and blue, the only four-goal comeback in Premier League history. It's been an up and down but really entertaining season, we've already overtaken the 2008-09 points total with eleven games to go, and we're sitting at a respectable ninth in the table -- a higher position than we've finished at in nine out of the last thirteen seasons. Yeah, we lost Carroll, but it was always the case that he'd be off to a "bigger" club sooner or later. At least we bagged the seventh biggest transfer fee ever – way over the odds – and for an injured player who it's now clear would have missed at least half of the rest of the season. Meanwhile we've already proven that we don't rely on one talismanic striker, Best is turning out to be a half-decent player, and we have £35 million earmarked for squad improvement in the summer. Chin up, lads. For all of the negativity around here, our momentum is, in reality, positive.

Tiote Pele, Puskás, Cruyff, di Stefano, Maradona, Best, Eusebio, Matthews, Bobby Charlton Aye, but now we're missing out Beckenbauer.
-
Dunno how I could fit Pele, Puskás, Cruyff, di Stefano, Maradona, Best, Eusebio, Matthews and Bobby Charlton all into the same team.
-
If I was Pardew I'd be thinking about it. Remember when Ronaldo was injured at Inter, and Sir Bobby said he'd been talking to Lippi about something else, and had said, "Send him to us, we'll get him fit for you!"

We will stutter. We will survive. There will be heroic victories. There will be annoying defeats. There will be boring draws. People will moan a lot.

Perez in goal. Viana up front somewhere.

That's what I thought. So pardon me wondering where the "the supposed main reason he was brought in" stuff came from. And no, I am not "amongst those who believe it was just because he's their mate etc."

Now that Dave's given up trying to pick a fight (stop it man, you'll get yeself banned! ) I'd still be interested in any non-suppositional link concerning the club's reasons for replacing Hughton with Pardew.
-
Uh-huh. So why complain on the back of "suppositions" that are probably bullshit?
-
Perhaps you can link us to an official list of the reasons Hughton was replaced by Pardew.

"Are you gratified to know that, even though you left them in the lurch, many Newcastle fans will still happily give you a blowjob?"
-
"What have you bought with the extra wedge you've been getting?"
-
And tout his players.

Cool. Club Athletico Faustino Asprilla is our Colombian feeder club!

West Ham agree fee in region of £15m with Liverpool for Andy Carroll
OzzieMandias replied to Pilko's topic in Football
I heard 8 weeks yesterday but I understand liverpool sent him for some further scans or something and they showed the daage was worse than expected. Part of the grand plan to keep him till the very last day so that L'pool have no time to do a full and complete check on his injury Fuck, that might even be true. -
Only seen the highlights, but he obviously had his moments. His finish was very suave, he won the penalty well, and should have had a second goal. You can't say he didn't play his part in a legendary performance.

If he IS perma-crocked, this week we'll have pulled off both the most amazing comeback in history, and the most amazing transfer deal in history. -

Well, I finally saw the highlights. I'd read all of the discussion on here, talked to members of my family who'd been at the game, knew every single thing that was going to happen... and the second half still had me laughing, punching the air, and finally almost bursting into tears. It was incredible enough. Imagine how much more incredible it would have been if Nolan's shot had gone in. Fuck. -

Not to worry. Just laugh when everyone else does and no one will notice. -

Incredible. -
To be honest he's got a long way to go before he makes any money out of the club. I said earlier on here I don't know if he's preparing to sell or not. In some ways the Carroll deal weakens the argument that he is selling. If he does have any sort of desire to do something productive with the club then I'm sure the two clubs he will be looking at are Arsenal and Spurs. Arsenal for picking out young talented players on the cheap, and Spurs for taking the cash on stellar deals when they come along (Berbatov, Carrick and Keane to Liverpool all went for big money) and using that finance to develope the club. Many are not even prepared to consider that as a possibility and its easy to see why. I'll be quite honest and say I don't know what his intentions with the club are and I never have done really. As I understand it this is also one of the operating principles of the people who've bought Liverpool – take the money if someone is paying over the odds.

He's never struck me as being a particularly good journalist, though. Had an argument with him on the Guardian blog once. Nothing to do with this story, but it was about an issue of fact, which he'd got wrong, and when I'd pointed it out, kept twisting and making excuses, Wanker, tbh. -
It'll deflate, but it wont burst. Football has always been about money. The richest clubs/owners have always taken the best players from the poorer ones. For a couple of decades we've been mostly shielded from the harsh reality of what that means to a supporter of a club lower down the pecking order because we've been one of the rich kids taking the players not losing them. Despite what people would have you believe we're still one of the richest teams in the league and the world - we'd have made a profit this year without the sale of Carroll, and will now make a club record profit which will probably only be bettered by Arsenal, and maybe Spurs, but we're still acting like paupers an if it continues we genuinely will be. Go on, then. Give us all a laugh by showing us the made-up figures which supposedly prove that one.
