I'm glad we've got a Hungarian, because I like Hungary. It's good to see him looking settled, because Hungarians often don't travel well, and get homesick. They're a bit like many Geordies in seeing their homeland as self-evidently the finest place in the universe, and other locations just don't measure up. Trivia corner: His name in English would be Tommy Cooper.
  4. It depends what the discussion is about.
  5. Tony Woodcock -- no evidence to suggest it was anything other than normal flesh and blood.
  6. Alan Ball -- not actually spherical.
  7. Chris Waddle -- didn't walk like a duck.
  8. Carl Cort -- in fact mostly got away with it.
  9. Alan Shearer -- rarely goes near a sheep.
  10. Shay Given -- we actually got a few million for him.

  12. I guess we can expect a whole lot more pointless moaning from the Malandro corner, then. I doubt there's a single club owner in the entire world who can supply clear, irrefutable proof of trustworthiness. The last one here, for example, certainly couldn't.
  13. He's only had almost 3 years, how much longer does he need? well hasnt he been tolerable this season, major fuckups not really around willing to spend cash in jan to ensure promotion if llambias could f*** off everything would be fine I’d say the renaming of the ground was a fuck up, as was starting season without a permanent manager. The meagre spend in January is given far too much credit. Ashley spent the absolute bare minimum he thought he could get away with to cover any possible injuries problems. When we were looking good for promotion under KK the board went out and spent serious money on Andy Cole, who went on to serve us well in the PL until he was sold for a 400% profit. This time we went out and bought Best for next to nought, we couldn’t even compete with Wigan for Moses. Or, looked at without the gosh-how-I-miss-my-Fweddie glasses on, during that transfer window we were probably the most active club in the top two divisions in terms of getting players in.
  14. Keegan was a Director of Football once himself, and came into the club knowing that he would be working under that kind of system, so if he had a problem with it he can hardly blame anyone else.
  15. he had a chance to rectify his mistakes when he appointed KK again but didn't support him. I imagine quite a lot of people have supported Newcastle for many years, watch them every game home and away, and aren't about to stop So what mistakes had he made before appointing Keegan? what planet do you come from ? So you can't think of any, then? malandro listed some. Paying big wages and moaning about it later too. What do you think of him losing KK and what do you think of the quality of our recent signings, on long contracts Ashley's first big mistake was appointing Keegan manager. Recent signings weren't bad at all, given the circs, and none of them are on particularly long contracts. Allows them a chance in the PL, with a two years left on the contract if we want to sell them on at that point.

  17. So he should have bought it on Vin Diesel or something? Only rectifiable by a) putting in enough of his own cash to keep the club out of insolvency and/or b) selling the damn thing again. Both of which he has done, or tried to do. So he spent too much money but he didn't spend enough money? Allardyce got upwards of £16 million to spend on transfers, so the claim that he wasn't backed is ludicrous, whatever his whinging. I agree that more high wages was a mistake, though I don't suppose Ashley had had time to realise that, and was under pressure (I remember Allardyce moaning in the press that time was running out) to rush through signings. Pure speculation and basically daft. Mort may well have knowingly dissembled. I also recall a stress on "external" debts. And if you still can't understand the difference between money owed to commercial lenders, and a loan as a form of investment by an owner, then there's not much point in you attempting to discuss the club's finances. Yes, a dumb mistake also made by his predecessors. Surprise me by supplying some facts re that one. How much did he pay, and for what? How much would an external purchaser have been charged? Yes, I'd agree that was a mistake, though not an egregious one.

  20. In reality, the club was on the slide for about three years before Shearer left.
