An up-and-comer or a never-has-been, never-will-be? I'd take a chance on Keane every time.

Cheered on Barca last night. They still went out! Still disappointed about it TBH.

You've always felt this? Yet, we didn't see this thread when he was doing well (understatement) and everyone was raving about how good he was. Not nevessarily saying that it isn't true but I'd respect the opinion so much more and be more inclined to believe it true if this was posted before there was a Ronaldinho-is-overrated bandwagon to jump on, e.g. I may be wrong but I think that HTL has been talking about how poor he believed Scott Parker to be well before he hit a slump in form and a fair few more subscribed to this view.

It seems like a waste of time writing the same thing out three times worded differently. Writing the same thing out three times but wording it slightly differently seems like a waste of time to me. To me, writing the same thing out three times is temporally wasteful. Even if the wording is slightly altered each time. Don't have time to discuss any of the other stuff properly but I think: Butt did do quite well at Birmingham, Dyer has not been improved by Roeder to be a better player than he always was, Milner's improvement has been in spite of his treatment by Roeder, Taylor has had just as long a spell under Roeder playing poorly as he has playing well, Martins was always going to be a good player but just needed settling time (no extra special coaching required), Solano has not been improved by Roeder to be a better player than he was (he has adapted well to RB though), and Sibierski did well at first but is now s*** again. If it were Roeder's coaching that has helped his play, presumably, his level of performance should be currently improving, not declining.
-
Apparently, Scott Parker doesn't know what he's supposed to be doing. Go forward or drop back? Titus Bramble doesn't know what he's doing. Unless, Roeder wants him to waste possession at every given opportunity. The list is pretty much the same thing written differently three times.

One or two games?! -
Not been a good season, but we are still only 6 points off 6th
Geordie Boot Boy replied to stozo's topic in Football
Glad you appreciate that. I'm getting to the point where (beyond the financial concerns) I couldn't give a s*** about sneaking into Europe. All I want is some decent football to give me some optimism for the future, rather than the life sapping dross we have to put up with under the current setup. Exactly. We sneak into a UEFA Cup slot and, then, what? Another season like this one, that's what. Hooray! I just don't believe in the team like I used to. I don't think we're going anywhere. -

Roeder seems rather spineless to me. It's no surprise that the team plays in a gutless manner really. It wouldn't surprise me if he apologizes to opposition managers after the game if Newcastle win. -
That must be bullshit. I just cannot imagine Roeder shouting at people. He seems the type who could be stared out by a choirboy.
-
No, it won't. Roeder talks shit all the time. I'm sure that if he actually thought people would hold him to the things that he says, he wouldn't come out with such bullshit (quite so regularly anyway) but the fact is that he doesn't.

If they aren't good enough, don't pick them to play but he's actually pickling them? Does he think that this will preserve them for later on in the season when injuries will no doubt mean their sub standard abilities are required or is it some kind of unpleasant deterrent at playing poorly. The point isn't that he's picking players who aren't good enough it's that he thinks they are good enough. Oh! I agree with that point. It was the idea that Roeder is actually pickling players that aren't good enough (i.e. preserving them in vinegar or brine) that was giving me problems. I don't rate Roeder in the slightest bit as a manager. I think his tactical awareness, ability to handle pressure, team selection, handling of the media and all round submissive personality are major weaknesses. I've said it before on here. I firmly believe that, had we appointed Roeder after dismissing Sir Bobby Robson, and, then, hired Souness when it all went wrong (and it would have gone just as wrong if you ask me), we'd be in no worse a position as we are right now. Keep in mind also that I think that Graeme Souness as a top flight manager is dogshit.

More or less exactly how I feel.

You're bang on the money there IMO. A good manager is worth his weight in football gold. I'm not sure if I'd prefer Wenger to Mourinho though. I probably would TBH.
-
I'd have said Henry TBH but we have two potentially World class strikers when we have a fully fit squad. In this case, I think a top class defender would be the ideal choice. If we're choosing from anyone, the obvious choice is the best defender in the World, Cannavaro. So, I'll go with that.
-
Please! The whole "look what I have had to deal with" bollocks is exactly that. Roeder can't handle pressure. He isn't a manager that will build success. If he had taken over after Clueless, we'd be in just as big a mess as we were post-Clueless because he'd have steered us downwards just as quickly. In my opinion of course.
-
f*** me! Roeder is better than the last manager to win a trophy now? And the World renowned top class manager Sir Bobby Robson? He must be good. But wait, he's s***. I'm so confused, you can't argue with numbers can you?

That was the final straw for me like. January, everybody's skint, and all of a sudden you're hit with that because the useless fuckers can't beat a 10-man team from the Championship. I bet that one ended up costing a good few people closer to £50 - £20 for the match ticket and £30 for going overdrawn in the long month after Christmas. And then to top it all off they go and get f****** shat on 5-1 at SJP. Thankfully I made the decision to stop at home that night. TBF, anyone who contests a charge like that is almost certain to have it cancelled. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6169539.stm Not really the essence of his argument though. No, but I agreed with the essence of his argument. I was just giving an addendum.

The unsung heroes of the Premiership (my top 10) - how about yours?
Geordie Boot Boy replied to a topic in Football
Jamie Carragher unsung? Fucking Hell, overrated if anything. He certainly isn't 'unsung' in Liverpool circles either. They refer to him as Cara-dona FFS. -
It's an old joke TBH. Used to be used against Tottenham who were always rumoured to be in for big players and never getting them.
-
I don't think about Owen as a Newcastle player any more. It's just less frustrating that way. Therefore, next season is fine for me.

Maccarone blasts "Steve 'Magnificent' McClaren"
Geordie Boot Boy replied to Leazes1986's topic in Football
Interesting insights given there. Can't blame him for being pissed off really. He scored some important goals for Boro but never really seemed to get a reward of a run of games. I've always thought that McClaren is a poor choice as England manager too so I agree with him there too. I'm surprised that Southgate's character is called into question. I thought he seemed a good bloke, straight as an arrow. -
Yeah, and I'm going to model myself on Al Pacino and make it big in Hollywood. It doesn't matter that he is immensely more talented than I am. You can't really compare our bad transfers with Wenger's good transfers (BTW, think Fabregas should be mentioned really). Surely, you should compare our good with his good or our bad with his bad? His bad are Jeffers, Pennant, Wright, (pretty much any time he's bought an English player), etc. Although his good far outweigh his bad TBF. He is World class at what he does, Roeder, for all his desire to copy, is not World class, or even international class.
