I think Spurs will be our next big hurdle, they are starting to look the part after a slow start. For the first time though I'm starting to believe we can do them. Eh? Spurs hate it up here, they've consistently struggled against us no matter what quality of team we have. Never a team I've had any fear of playing at SJP. Cue 0-5 slaughter... I usually just go on the quality of the team rather than past form tbh. Spurs looked canny against Liverpool last week so I expect a tough game. Think that's fair enough, was just "for the first time though I'm starting to believe we can do them" that surprised me. Giving them far too much respect, IMO. It looks a cracking game on paper. Honestly from what I'd seen so far of us this season I wasn't confident we'd beat them despite the results. They have some quality players in Modric, Van de Vaar, Bale and Defoe, and we've looked confused how to use the new players we've brought in. But in the last week or so everything is moving a lot more smoothly and now I am looking forward to taking them on.
  2. Hopefully we've seen the end of the hoofball and the football will go from strength to strength as we grow in confidence. I think Santon will also have a significant impact.

Na. I'm assuming he was saying that tongue in cheek. You might as well play another striker off Ba, it's a bit daft to describe it as a 5 man midfield.

    Hatem Ben Arfa

That's why I think he has to be starting games sooner rather than later. Cabaye needs someone in front of him to bridge the gap between midfield and attack.
  6. Good result for us. Once again Michael Owen bringing the kiss of death to Man U's flying start.
  7. Fwiw I think we will try a bit harder to keep Coloccini than we did with the likes of Barton & Nolan because he fits in with the type of character the club seems to want now. I guess we'll see though. I think the problem will be that we aren't prepared to break our wage structure. At the moment we don't want to go higher than 50k it seems, but Colo's supposed to be on 80k. If Ashley had any sense he'd give him some sort of signing on fee to make up the difference because a central defender who is never injured and that good will save more than the money we pay him. It makes sense from a financial point of view as much as anything else.
  8. Drop Best? What? The same starting XI must start the next game. Don't see why. Ben Arfa would quite clearly be an improvement on Best. I think eventually our front two will be HBA behind Ba. Best will keep his shirt as long as he's scoring goals and playing well though.

We need Santon in, then Raylor can fight it out with Simpson for the rb slot. Too many crosses are still not being cut out on that side.

  11. He seems to be providing what Dyer did during the Robson days. Dyer had his critics but Solano used to pick the ball up from deep and slip a pass to Dyer and he was away. Teams never knew what hit them.

I think he was desperate to do something spectacular today after being starved of football for so long. He will be class when he is starting games regularly. I still think he's the missing link to play behind the striker. I think he'll replace Best eventually to give us our best 11.

Looks like the pacey passing football theory is starting to become reality. Thought Pardew got it right today so well done.
  14. I think that's how we have to look at it. Great swap for Routledge at the end of the day.
  15. I don't know. He looked really dangerous against Man U last week and he's scored again today. Obviously the sending off is a setback but I think he's going to have a decent season with Chelsea.
  16. He gets into those positions every game, though. Ultimately that is the most important thing. He'll keep getting goals I reckon. Ba has now joined proceedings too, and all of a sudden we seem to have attacking options all over the place. Yep, I love the fact that he goes hunting for the goals.
  17. Best has missed a couple of chances today although he's played well overall.
  18. I think Best has a claim on that, he absolutely cleaned Dann out
