He is a good player. He'll complement Ba and the midfielders we have in our squad. At the moment, it's not the most exciting partnership in the world, but it has the potential to be an effective one. Pleased to hear that. Hope we can tie this one up soon, would give everyone a boost. I think getting this deal done must be a priority for the hierarchy right now. After losing out on Gameiro, Gervinho and Zog (the only realistic one out of those) losing out on Erdinc as well would be a big dent in the credibility after such a drawn out chase.

Carroll dominates when the ball is hung up high in the air and there are players like Nolan who are canny at picking up the scraps. Unless Liverpool are going to drastically change the way they play, it's not nailed on he'll be as effective as he was for us. It's not as simplistic as you are making it out to be either. How much he suits liverpool isnt that relevant, the basis for this discussion is his value whilst he was here in comparison to Ba. Though i reckon Gerrard/adams/downing etc shouldnt have to much problem finding his head. Carroll's value to us last season was immense because with no other quality players lumping it towards Carroll was a good tactic. If we had kept him and not sold then I think we wouldn't have made the signings we have done. While I agree it seems we haven't spent as much as we should (yet) I still prefer us to spread the quality across the team rather than rely on one or two players.

 What's funny? The bit in bold is correct. Carroll made what, four league appearances for Liverpool? He was unplayable against Citeh. Why not compare the way Carroll was playing in the first half of the season, for us, to how Ba played for West Ham?! He was piss poor against West Brom. He was absolutely tamed by Samba against Blackburn as well. The problem with route one football is there's no plan B if you come up against a big hard centre back.
-
Where does it say he has signed? I would be in favour of hijacking that like, £5m for Long is a decent price. Same here. I would rather have Erdinc but I don't want to lose out on both and end up with the likes of Defoe. While he's been a class player in his time he looks like the wrong sort for this club. Don't know if he has an attitude problem but he lacks consistency for a player with his talent.

Give over man. Are you just going to ignore the players who have come in? People are arguing why we didn't sign Zog and I don't see if we can make all these signings what was stopping Villa? Haven't they sold a shit load of players for big money? If you looked at our forums and what people were saying recently, and still are in some cases, "look at Newcastle, they've got players in, we're doing nothing but get rid of them" was one of the most frequently heard things. Transfer window open = paranoia, delusion, misunderstanding and anger. That was my point even though it seems beyond some people's comprehension. That's not to say Zog wouldn't have been a good signing, but knowing our lot if we'd spent that much on him we wouldn't still be in for Erdinc. I said it way back in this thread that I couldn't see us signing Marveaux and Erdinc then still going ahead and signing Zog. The daft thing is I was one of the most vocal critics of the decision to sell him at the time. It's not like I wouldn't want him here but you have to look at the bigger picture.

This and this. Why didn't Villa sign Marveaux as well as Zog as well then? Not to mention they should have been in for Cabaye and Ba seeing as they were all available cheap.
-
That's how it might seem right now. But then this time last year we'd have thought it laughable that anyone could even contemplate that. We'll know the answers next season in any case.
-
Yup. Genuinely thought we'd spend the money and feel well and truly strung along. Worth it more than some new nets and a greener pitch. So you'd both rather have kept Nolan and Carroll rather than signing Cabaye, Marveaux, Ba, Mehdi and possibly Erdinc? You can argue that we could have bought those players in anyway but it was never going to happen.
-
Why do you think he is leaving? (Genuine question) he won't sign a new contract and he spoke publicly against the club paying his wages right now.
-
What we need is someone to buy up and fuck on. Anyone out there?
-
For those arguing Jose is leaving for ambition only (nothing to do with personal gain) can I repeat the question: why hasn't he handed in a transfer request?
-
End of the day Jose isn't disgusted enough with our lack of spending to hand in a transfer request. People are calling Modric all sorts (including Wullie I believe) but when he wanted away at least he had the nuts to hand one in and give up his loyalty bonus. It's about money and fuck all else. If Enrique puts in a transfer request people will just call him a greedy cunt and gloss over the fact that one of our best players wants to leave. Absolutely untrue. I have always been one of Enrique's biggest fans and I am gutted that he is leaving. I have no problem with him going if he can do better but to have done it this way just makes him look a mercenary looking to squeeze the most money out of the situation possible. If you are going to defend that how can you criticise Ashley for doing the same thing? It's quite simple for me; I don't believe he would want to leave if we were showing ambition to match his own. That doesn't mean trying to break into the top four this season coming of course, because I don't think it would be possible without money we don't currently have access to. But even just using the money from selling our most promising young local talent and trying to get up there would suffice. Aim for the stars and miss but you might still hit the moon and all that. All players want to play at the highest level possible, it's nonsense to imply most are happy to settle for being also-rans. There's always an excuse for why our best players want to leave. How many more good players will go before the penny drops? In which case why not just hand in a transfer request and quote those reasons?

wasn't it yesterday that Douglas was tweeting about unbelievable stuff going on in the unhappy NUFC camp in the States on the basis of what Brenner from the Sun was leaking? They are peddling trash to sell papers man. None of them have a clue.

probably just as well you're not a gambling man then
-
No problem with Jose having ambition but he should have put in a transfer request rather than slag the club in order to get his loyalty bonus.
-
It's clear we've opted for the cheaper deal in Marveaux both in fees and wages probably. This doesn't mean Marveaux's not a quality player but obviously Zog was tried and tested. The proof will be in the pudding next season when we compare how our respective clubs get on.
-
Exactly. No direct attack on players we've already signed either. It doesn't need to be a direct attack when an indirect one has the same effect. Fuck off to Liverpool by all means you Scouse/Spick twat, but don't pretend you aren't fighting for your loyalty bonus when you obviously are.

We are desperately in need of some good news after Enrique's defection and the journalists sensationalising it to the detriment of our club. Let's hope we clinch this one and stick two fingers up to MIS Douglas and Steve Brenner the scum.

He'd have had a very large input. Don't forget, these Americans arrived here knowing nothing at all about the game and how things work. MON stepped forward, said "I'll do it" and they let him do that. If they hadn't let him do this, they'd have been accused of not backing the manager. Their mistake was to back him so unequivocally. It was only when they'd wised up to a few things that they asked him to work on the wage bill and the selfish cunt threw his toys out the pram at a time designed to cause us the maximum trouble, the vindictive shit. Sounds familiar. Substitute Americans with Cockney wankers and you have our story a few years ago basically.

It's all starting to sound too much like the fallout after relegation. Some players don't want to be here any more and they need to be shipped out before spreading the poison into the dressing room. Bassong and Beye were super players for us but they needed to go to clear the air. Same with Shay Given at the time.

There's been very upbeat quotes from Taylor and some of the new recruits as well. Brenner might just be talking sensationalist shite.
