He showed here the season before Duff arrived that he could go on to become a very good player. Yep. I know you were one of those who pointed it out at the time and so was Wullie off the top of my head.

As far as £20million English youngsters go, he's probably more worth it than most others. I actually do think he's going to be a genuine success at this level. But I know Ashley won't spend that and I can't see how many other clubs will want to or be in a position to.

Another key player supposedly taking the club for a ride. Amazing isn't it how the stars are stars until the club forces them out or can't match their potential but the players are all greedy and taking the p*ss. Jose like Fabregas wants to move on to the next level and compete for medals. What's wrong with that? It's the spiv who is taking the club for a cheap ride. Every one would like to play at the highest level obviously but there is a way of going about it. Saying you will stay when we are safe, and then ambiguous claims of when we prove our ambition? He needs to show a bit more class and respect towards the fans and his employees, rather than not talking to us and simply waiting to see what's out there and if nothing he likes shows up grudgingly stay here. Like neesy said, put in a transfer request if you want to leave? This pissing about could, and probably will, prevent us getting in a decent replacement in time. Well put. Jose's one of the last players I want to see leave but if he's going I wish we get get on with it so at least we could a replacement in.

I wouldn't disagree that he's as good but I just doubt that there's a club out there that will spend £20million on Sturridge. If Henderson is worth £20m, then Sturridge isn't far off. He is class. But not every club is like Liverpool and going to throw that sort of money around. How many are even capable of it? In the Premiership? Every one that is owned by a billionaire or is reliant upon debt finance. I don't mean to be awkward, as I appreciate that English players are typically over-priced, but Sturridge looks an awesome prospect and, at the moment anyway, would look a very good investment for the future. The problem that I envisage us having is attracting superstar (and proven) strikers to the club. Personally, I do not want to get lumbered with someone like Berbatov, who is approaching the end of his career and who didn't even look interested at Manchester United (other than during the two or three games where he ran riot). I'd rather go for a younger (and hungrier) striker and the boy Sturridge would fit the bill. Not that he'd come here in a million years, like IMO there are only the top 4 clubs who are capable of paying £20million for a striker and I don't think they would buy Sturridge. After that there is Liverpool who have already blown their load, and then us or Spurs who have got the money to buy him. Can't see Ashley going for it so that leaves Spurs if they sell Modric. You're right there like, I could never see one of the top four buying Sturridge. Which of them do you think will then? I think one of them already own him mate. Well duh. I was talking about the current situation where he's up for sale at £20million supposedly.

I don't really know how he'd be happy to continue if he really is holding out for a better club's offer. Not that that's not what players will do but it all seems rather snide. Or would you accept him as part of your squad if he's still at Newcastle on September 1st, even after supposedly strongly wanting away? Depends if he signs a new contract. Without it he's just going to walk for free next summer.

The fact that he's actually a right back? OK then, what attributes does Danny Simpson have that make him a better option to play right back than Ryan Taylor? He can run with the ball without kicking it into touch for one thing.
-
What £35 million for a player with half a good season? That was my reaction. If we take the Liverpool model of Torres = £50m so Carroll = £35m (I know he was crap for Chelsea), then if Carroll = £35m, Sturridge is easily £20m. Not everybody has £20million to throw at young strikers though, so you can't really go by Liverpool's crazy money for Carroll. The only club I can think of who might pay it are Tottenham if they sell Modric. Even then I think they would prefer not to pay a premium price for someone like Sturridge because £20million probably buys you a top class star abroad.

This is a headline news story run by the best selling national Sunday paper. If Nolan feels he's been mis-represented I'm sure he would refute this story with all his might.
-
For the same reason he went to West Ham. It all adds to the retirement fund.
-
Why would they do that and risk Nolan taking them to court? It all sounds plausible anyway. Nolan was a good presence in the dressing room but managers get paid on results. Can you imagine if we held onto Nolan while Sunderland signed N'Zogbia who ran past him at will in the next derby game?
-
No one's going to pay £10million for him but the article says we offered £5million in January. At that price I could see us being interested.
-
Strange comments though, he's talking like the move is already in process. He doesn't seem to even entertain the possibility that we might not be interested.
-
Taraabt would be more trouble than he's worth, but at least it shows the positive effect of signing a few French players. I've no doubt that Marveaux was influenced by that to switch here instead of Liverpool once they started faffing about.
-
The NOTW blurb just says something along the lines that Nolan's support wasn't returned by Pardew. He must mean when Pardew first arrived to a fairly hostile reception in Newcastle.
-
Nolan having a go at Pardew's lack of support to keep him here in the NOTW tomorrow apparently. Don't know what it says because I'm not registered for it.
-
Chelsea will obviously prefer to loan him to Bolton as if he came here he might get his head turned. I never thought previously they would consider selling him but with them looking to buy Modric they might want to get some cash back in. Can't see us bidding though as the fee will probably be at least £15million.

Say what you like about the release clauses and Bosman deals but for me the swiftness of the deals and the ability to attract players wanted by outraged Merseyside clubs tells me that we mean business.

Courtney's a grad A twat. Always has been.

That goal was the one that had me sold on Zog as a quality midfielder. Ordinary players don't score those.
