That's what I thought we should have done against Fulham. I never like to see two target men starting a game it rarely works.

Do the local media brown nose the club/Ashley too much?

If the NUST are anything to go by then I'm glad the local media are a bit more circumspect than your average fan. -
I think all that will be answered this summer. I am expecting there will be a few clubs sniffing round Enrique, Barton and Tiote. These guys will stay IMO if we look like we are going to buy players to make us a force next season. If we don't spend seriously the we'll probably see them leave and that will answer the questions about the clubs ambition.

Marveaux looks like exactly the type of player I would be happy to sign if that youtube clip is anything to go by. Pacey, skilful and a good left foot.
-
Good player who has everything to his game....except goals which might be a problem.
-
Better than Batty and Lee? All three were good players but Dalglish tried to play them all in the same midfield along with Gary Speed. Your earlier post is spot on about how Dalglish dismantled Keegan's free flowing football and replaced with defensive, dour crap. He didn't buy particularly bad players just didn't have the balls to play in a skilful attacking style. Hopefully his fearful negative attitude will see Liverpool plunge in a downward spiral once the feelgood factor wears off.

Harsh to judge Ranger against the Fulham defence, I was there when Fulham played us at home and Carroll didn't get much change out of them either, and they were a lot weaker then.
-
Unless Ben Arfa's been bought to keep for a year or two then sell on for top price I think that's the key difference. Let's say we spend all the money from the Carroll sale and spend it well - best case scenario, don't laugh. Suddenly we've got a team filled with HBA's and Tiote's all over the pitch and we are competing for a top 6 spot. If we get big offers which will give us a double your money profit is Ashley going to say no? Because a chairman that has ambitions will do that, but if you are just looking to realise profits then we know where this has gone previously with the likes of N'Zogbia, Bassong, and now Carroll.
-
So Carroll Replacement HBA Shola Best (leaving in the summer i reckon) Lovenkrands (leaving in the summer i reckon) Ranger Yup and I think we will be looking for a Carroll type big centre forward wouldn't be so sure. i think they'll be looking for more of a continental centre forward who can finish with his head but has loads of movement. a game built on technique rather than physical attributes. I would love to think that's true.

Good. After watching him fail to get anything out of a strong Newcastle squad I have high hopes he will take Liverpool backwards and the money they have spent will become a debt they can't service. Were you not watching in 1997 when he took us to second place after we were 6th when he took over ? Do you not take into account the restrictions placed on him after that because we had become a PLC ? And the fact that he lost Shearer for months in 97/98 ? Do you seriously think all his signings were c---p? Are you aware that the players actually liked him as a manager ? We will have to let time prove whether he is a decent manager or not.... He took us to 2nd place with Keegan's team. Once he started replacing the flair players with workhorses and picking sides with no width his results speak for themself.
-
Hughton said he had pace when he signed him, Coleman said he had pace the other night but I agree I haven't seen much sign of it. I don't know if it's the way we are playing as at the moment the only service him and Ranger are getting is high balls hoofed in their general direction.

I'd far rather support non-geordies who pull on our shirt and represent our club to be honest. If that's being petty then I'm happy to be called petty.
-
We might not be Liverpool but we aren't exactly Notts County either. The way our captain and some fans talk you'd think we were a fucking nursery club who should tug our forelocks and roll out the red carpet for bigger and better clubs.
-
With a name like that he can't be anything other than fantastic.

Not good signs that the team spirit is going to remain intact after the Carroll sale. Nolan happy to lose a key player to another club, Barton stalling on signing a contract, Enrique making remarks on Carroll's salary. Sounds a lot like our last relegation season when too many players had one eye on the exit door.
-
Wouldn't want him playing in a mask anyway, I would be sceptical whether he'd be up for the physical battles against the centre backs if he's not fully recovered.
-
There was always the danger that their flurry of goals would lull us into a false sense of security, Pardew was definitely after a striker before the window opened but seemed to change his priorities when we picked up good results recently. That added to the fact the strikers who have moved are costing a fair bit in wages like Keane, was probably a big factor.
-
That's hardly an apology. That's just made it worse if anything.
-
Means nothing. There were more than 3 teams worse than us in 2009 and we still went down. Generally there's always one team which unexpectedly drops like a stone into the danger zone from a comfortable position. With most of the other relegation candidates buying strikers and us under-strength I would say we are prime candidates to be that team.
-
Ah that's unfair. He showed good awareness to anticipate Nolan's knockdown, good strength to turn the defender, and above all else, it was a top drawer save. Very true. I still think he will score goals as he's getting chances but he desperately needs to get a goal under his belt to give him some confidence.
-
We are in for some hard times ahead which is not really Pardew's fault as the squad is lacking quality and numbers up front. It's a good test of the manager's ability to come up with an effective way of playing with what we've got left. No one expects miracles but we should be able to get the 2-3 wins we need to stay up. I hope yesterday was a one off though because I expected us to show a lot more desire than that. In the second half we just wilted which isn't a good sign.
-
obviously playing for Newcastle wasn't considered serious enough for him to behave in a professional manner when he was here then. Good to know.
-
It's not so much the tactics which are a concern although I thought he should have started Lovenkrands yesterday rather than play with two big men up front. But he doesn't look like he believes we have enough up front and this looks like it has transferred to the players. It's his job now to make sure the spirit in the camp doesn't fizzle out like Chris Bastard Coleman predicted yesterday. We don't need to go proving arseholes like that right.

Starting to look uncomfortably more like Andy O'Brien with every game.
