Everything will be fine mate if it comes off. They've gambled on retaining our Premier League status this season without spending much on players or management. Having a financially sound club is what I think everyone wants, but right now it looks like a dodgy bet that's all. got to agree with t'dave there No argument with Dave, he's probably right although i think we'll be ok this season. I was meaning the tone of the OP which doesn't fall under constructive criticism for me.

I would, I posted a thread about it a couple of weeks back.
-
Just a personal opinion but if you want to achieve aims #1 and #3 you need to lose #2 and #4.
-
Excuse me, can't you see that people are trying to have a conversation about the old board in this thread? Show some consideration please and stop trying to derail the thread.

There's just one tiny flaw in that cunning plan Baldrick... if you mean that Kinnear's still knocking about, then in all fairness, I think the club should act and try to reach some form of mutual agreement with him and paying out his contract until the end of the season. His health comes first. On top of that I think his doctor will probably advise him to pack in. I mean Shearer's already let it be known he would never work under the current set up. I don't think Ashley took kindly to Shearer's public opinions either so it's a non-starter.

I had a feeling that we would try and get by with the caretaker boss for a while. Hughton's unlucky in that although he'll have more players available this time round, he's once again going to be in charge during a tough run of games. I'm hoping that Ashley will be looking to get a replacement manager in during the summer when it will be easier to prise them away from their clubs.

I am fed up with all this constant moaning coming from some quarters. We asked for communication, we got it in spades with the Q&A session, now predictably "it's all lies" anyway. I am coming to terms with the fact that we are going to be putting our financial house in order with a view to being in a position to invest more money once we've moved some of the dead wood out of the club. I would love it if we got bought out and a trillionaire started buying all the best players but until that happens I would rather just enjoy the football as best I can. Lovenkrands looks a canny player and we've got some good players coming back into the picture. I think I'll postpone suicide for another year.

What is it they are trying to achieve? I asked earlier about their plan or objectives but I still don't know what they are so if you could shed some light that would be great.

I think Bruce would jump at the chance to come here, being a local lad and getting the chance to manage a club with 50,000 gates and great football history. Anyone worth his salt would want to prove thenselves at a high profile club. If he prefers to stay at Wigan then he isn't the right man for us anyway. I just don't think he'll go into a job where he isn't the main man. And i'd say that for every manager in the Premier League. I can understand that view if we are talking about Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger, but we are talking about the manager of Wigan. Bruce has to buy players knowing that they will be sold over his head if they are successful. How is he in control of dealings at Wigan?
-
It would be even better if they could find someone with money to invest in the club. Ashley is looking for co-investors so if the NUSC can forge links with someone with the capital to do that, they would be in a position of some clout.

Unless Keegan wins his case against the club, in which case we'll be paying him the £8million. Not that I think he has much of a case.
-
So why do people expect Ashley to spend his personal wealth on the club? If Shepherd nor the rest of the shareholders spent any of their own personal wealth on the club, why is it that people expect differently from Ashley? He's a cockney cunt is a good a reason as any.

nowt to say then ? Just joking man, I'm pretty bored, we all know spending money improves your chances of doing well, but it's not a given, you need the right manager, the right scouts and the right amount of money but you can do well without spending massive amount if you have the right manager e.g. Moyes and Everton. on the other hand, if you are lucky enough to get a decent manager, and it IS a lottery, and don't back him, he'll be off. Like Moyes, unless Everton are taken over or it all suddenly goes tits up for him. When you say "do well", how well do YOU want to do ? It's a lottery getting a good manager? No it's a skill, not an easy one but it is definately a skill. is it now ? We'll see how easily Arsenal replace Wenger and ManU replace Ferguson. Or Everton replace Moyes .......... Even a "good manager" isn't necessarily the "right manager", which I suppose adds credence to NE5's "lottery" theory. Bit simplistic on the whole though, as usual. you mean "realistic", as usual. Which also, as usual, too many people fail to grasp. were you happy with the kinnear appointment ? hey getting a good manager is a lottery right, surely theres as much chance getting a s*** one to turn out good results as there is a good one turning out bad to your thinking or maybe you are piffling again in anattempt to detect any criticism from the your beloved fred ? (conversly it must work with players aswell...shevchenko,veron,woodgate at real, keane at liverpool......good players who didn't do it so surely it means it's pointless spending big as these players prove it works) i'll stop you in your tracks........."back your manager"............what with ? where was the money going to come from......at this point you mention the debt of others and as always i mention the debt of the top 4 is different to ours as they are making money aside from those with sugar daddies where as we have consistently made losses (not a good scenario when begging to the banks with few assets left to hock). look at the other clubs who, like us have lived beyond their means, they are all cutting right back and ask yourself what liverpools or arsenals spending would be like if they missed out on the champs league for 3 or 4 years ? often on here you have alluded to others having thir heads in the sand but it is clear the one one doing an ostrich is yourself in relation to the position fred left us in. silly. Especially when there are still people hell bent on defending Ashley to the bitter end, and I mean bitter end = relegation and with little chance of coming back. Pleased for you that you still appear to write off all those european qualifications and champions league appearances and the manner in which they were achieved. Still, nobody is "embarrassing us" any more, right ? Especially after walking away from Newcastle with £140million between the pair of them.

It wouldn't be quite so bad if there was anything in the world to suggest Wise was appropriate for the job. Ultimately, he's just a lower division manager with some friends in the game. Might as well have gone for Tony Adams. Having said that I'm glad we didn't go for Adams. No one outside the club really knows whether Wise is doing a good job or a bad job, he's just an easy target being a cross-eyed dwarf with an attitude problem.
-
Not too fussed ATM. I don't blame him for knocking back a contract on those terms, I'm sure there's room for negotiation. He's a long way from being good enough yet IMO.

Would he want to work with Dennis Wise though? He's working at a selling club at Wigan, I don't think he'd be that picky. Why though? He gets full control at Wigan, which he wouldn't here. He still has to sell players when his boss says so. Not much control over that. How many were there at Wigan on Saturday? 14,000? Well if he prefers that to managing his home town club in front of 50,000 geordies he should probably stay where he is. Of course that's the obvious pull. I'm just saying why would he want to report to Dennis Wise? He doesn't have to if it's a problem, he can always stay at Wigan. You still haven't answered my question. You want me to tell you what Steve Bruce might think? I'm asking you why he would want to have to report into Dennis Wise. Bit of a leading question that Tooj, the question should really be "would he mind reporting to Wise (member of the board)?" To answer your question - becasue Wise is a member of the board. Exactly. I've no idea if Bruce would object to reporting to Wise, but if he wants a job at Newcastle he'll obviously have to work with the staff.

"Doing something" is not, in itself, necessarily constructive. The people who come out with this one are invariably those who think that what they're doing is the right thing. Doing absolutely nothing will merely encourage those in control to carry on with the current way things are being run. The people who say nothing should be done, or that doing something will be harmful to the club are invariably those who are happy with the status quo. I am not particularly happy with the status quo, but what is the point of agitating without any solution? Have the NUSC actually put forward a more effective plan than Ashley's which I can get enthusiastic about? Would love to see their solution though I won't be holding my breath for anything better than holding onto the idea that some rich arab can somehow be courted. I think they would be hard pushed to come up with any plan better than the one Llambias seems to be outlining tbh. Logically it is the most sensible strategy as far as I can see, though the factor that will see it ultimately succeed or fail will be the caliber of manager on the football side we are able to secure. Agreed. It's a bitter pill to swallow, but putting the club on a sensible financial footing will pay dividends in the long term, obviously it's going to be a struggle for the next season or so. The appointment of a competent manager is going to be crucial.

There's plenty of it going around. Most people support the idea of the supporter's club, they just think this particular one are going about it in the wrong way. And are clearly happier sitting at their computers slagging them off than being arsed enough to actually attend and make themselves heard. What is the point of going to the meetings? I don't see what they can realistically achieve and I don't share their aims of getting Ashley out by agitating. If they have a realistic proposal for increasing investment in the playing squad I'd probably be more arsed.
