Rate Jol higher than Scolari for PL. I agree. Would be a cracking appointment. He's even worked under the DoF system and done well with it in this league before if, as it appears, we must stick with it. How about Scolari to the end of the season (he's out of work so who knows?) then Jol come the summer? If we got Scolari to the end of the season, surely we should be looking at keeping him long term? I don't think we'd have a cat in hell's chance of keeping him here on a long term basis, but at the moment he's unemployed and probably feels he has a point to prove. A spell as a transitional manager might appeal. It's a long shot but surely worth a punt?

Why do you keep saying this despite people telling you that we were "told" no such thing? http://www.thespoiler.co.uk/index.php/mike-ashley-statement "I was always prepared to bankroll Newcastle up to the tune of £20m per year." OK it's not on the first team. But does this not contradict Lambarse's stated intention of having the club run at an overall loss of just £7M in 2 years? Has Ashley channged his mind on what he's willing to spend since taking us off the market and wanting to make a go of it? Currently: Loss of £20m = Ashley puts in £20m to cover 2 Years Time: Loss of £7m = Ashley puts in £7m to cover and £13m for squad building I see. So where's this £8M for summer spending come from? Considering the loss last year was supposed to be £36M. Is he pumping £44M in? Why double the investment in the summer if you want to decrease losses and tighten your belt? Nothing they say adds up. Might god your complaining because he's spent MORE money !! He said he would cover at least £20m a season. During his interview when he said he would sell he said he would still cover this but nothing else. Yet he is paying out more money and your complaining. Do you even know what your complaint is ? He never said "at least". He said "up to". See the link above. I'm complaining that they're liars. They might be liars but no one else has shown any real interest in putting their money where their mouth is and buying the club, so we are what we are, all we can hope is that they'll genuinely try and do right by the club.

Well you'll have to change your whole way of thinking having been provided those insightful "stats".

I don't see why you're worried about that, I assume it'll be the same people that pulled out all the stops in head hunting joking Joe. Also Redknapp and Keegan it should be added. Really? You not reckon Wise, Vetere and Williamson have had any say since arriving? Maybe they have. Joe Kinnear wasn't a disaster btw, when you consider the circumstances at the time he was given the job, http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/2418/managersnc0.jpg The club was on the verge of being sold, he was on a monthly contract and we were in a relegation spot and in freefall.

I can only assume Owen will be offered inferior terms this time round. I don't believe the bit about Duff either unless it's on about half the wages he is getting now. Which would still be too much IMO.

Just been reading the more comprehensive interview in the Journal and I must admit I am quite impressed that he was pretty forthright in his answers. His answers about the business side of the club were impressive and the fact that he admitted he didn't interfere in football matters. One thing I'm uncomfortable about is there isn't enough football nous amongst the decision makers. Who will assess the merits of the next manager for example?
-
Dream appointment would be Scolari. Realistic choices are down to Martinez and Jol although that one's based more in hope that reality as i doubt he is going to be available until the summer at the earliest, and even then we would have to compensate Hamburg. Can't see Ashley going for that.
-
I remember when Birmingham said that they approached Lippi to become their manager, i choked on my cornflakes that morning i tell you. Shearer would be a masterstroke, the sheer aura of signing him would lift the club and to safety this season and he would have time to see the players in perfect time for the summer. However, the relationship between the owners would be a disaster. Shearer has burned his bridges with the owners, and since no one else is willling to invest in the club that means he isn't available to take up the reins. Scolari would be fantastic, but again he isn't used to working with small budgets. Martinez would be worth a go for me.
-
I'm pleased he can walk away with his head held high. Joe might not be the best manager but he came in and steadied the ship and provided some leadership. I think he'll be remembered fondly for having a go and showing enthusiasm if nothing else.
-
Good shout. He'd probably have walked here when he was out of a job, but he's doing quite well now isn't he?
-
I'd go for temp and the proper look in the summer. We've been down this road before haven't we?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/gossip_and_transfers/7882800.stm What, that can't be right? Mike Ashley is trousering the clubs money and Shepherd was just out to spend his personal wealth on making us a success! Wasn't he? I don't think anyone minded SJH and Fantastic Fred milking the club while we were successful, but leaving the club £100m in debt while running off with a £146m swag bag is a bit nuch to stomach. Imagine if Ashley did that.
-
It looks less and less likely that Joe will be back which is probably a good thing for the most part. He did a decent job short term but the longer he stays in the seat the more likely we are going to regress IMO. The club is going to have to make a decision soon whether to make an appointment straight away or hang on with the coaching staff looking after first team affairs, which would be a mistake IMO.

Venables was a fine coach, capable of doing a fine job previously. Having turned down the job via The Sun last time round I doubt he'll be offered the job again.

The Newcastle United Transfer Thread: D-Day [Spoiler: Not Much Happens]
TRon replied to LooneyToonArmy's topic in Football
Sell him on for a big price. Fits the bill perfectly. Who didn't see that coming? Sell him on for a big price. Fits the bill perfectly. Who didn't see that coming? We need to sign more Geremis, Smiths and Butts who we can keep as low value deadwood instead -

I don't remember either the Journal or the Chronice publishing any questions regarding the employment of Bruce or Ken Shepherd when Freddie was Chairman but that might be because these issues were met by a "No Comment" response.

It depends what you mean by "their group has taken off". While the NUSC has had plenty of media coverage because bad news is always better copy for journalists, having witnessed the fabulous support provided at the ground by the toon ultras, I think everyone who sits in other parts of the ground appreciate your cause 100%. It's great that when the opposition chants get amplified by the acoustics of sitting close to the roof, we have our own dedicated fans to out-sing them. Sterling job lads. You're efforts do not go un-noticed.
-
I'm surprised Llambias even acknowledged the NUSC considering the aggressive and hostile stance this group has taken against the club, not just against the owner personally but also in efforts to hit the club's income streams in the form of organised boycotts of club products.
-
I voted not at all, not because I'm happy how things have turned out under Ashley, it's just that NUSC don't have any answers. I don't see how moaning publicly without any idea about solutions is going to do any good for Newcastle United.

Xisco joins Deportivo on loan until the end of the season
TRon replied to LoveItIfWeBeatU's topic in Football
Comparisons to Luque's treatment by Roeder are meaningless, Luque allegedly had an attitude problem but from what I've seen of Xisco he works bloody hard as a centre forward. Whether he's good enough we won't find out until he's given a run in the side, if Joe is prevented from continuing as manager we might find out. The problem for Xisco is that the likes of Smith and Viduka are returning to fitness and will get picked ahead of him. -
I think the good thing about all of this is that the decision to keep Kinnear on as manager might be taken out of the club's hands if it's depending on medical advice. I can't see how managing a club like Newcastle can be advisable for a man with history of heart trouble who barely looks fit to walk 10 yards. I hope the rumours of Curbishley are untrue, he's dull, buys badly and most of his players at West Ham seemed to despise him. If he comes here it will end up being more than half a season and it could turn into another Souness situation.
