Right... I could get behind the idea of selling Ba if we were to replace him with a striker/winger type who would be happy out left. The fact that Demba seemingly doesn't want to play wide is a problem IMO, we played our best football last year in a 4-3-3 and if we had a player that could provide an upgrade on what Demba did out left for us in that system then you have to think about IMO. I'm not talking about giving Sammy a go or putting Jonas out there or expecting Marveaux to do the business either. We'd want to be replacing him with a really, really exciting talent. Someone like Loic Remy for instance who we've been linked with. Would also give us more flexibility to switch between systems if we have a player more versatile than Demba.

I do fear that Pards has decided to revert to a 4-4-2 primarily next year. The pursuit of Carroll is pretty indicative IMO, and these comments don't sound encouraging. Think we'll need another CM if that's what we're at, unless we're confident that Amalfitano is able for the first team or that Abeid is ready to step up.

With a few good additions to the squad there's no reason we can't field a strong team in every game, there's no sense in just sending out a team full of backups in the League Cup and effectively resigning ourselves to not winning it. I'll be particularly annoyed if we fart about with reserve teams in the Europa League. It's a winnable tournament, we should be going balls out to win it. Hopefully by the end of August we'll have 15 or 16 players that we feel can start and not look massively out of place in our starting eleven. Hopefully we rotate a couple of players constantly rather than just resting the entire first team every so often.
