More a left sided attacker. Shouldn't we be looking at out and out strikers tho? Theoretically we have the big, target man role filled with Ba and Shola. What we desperately need though is pace and movement up top, Best is by far the most mobile striker we have which is an absolutely disgraceful situation for us to be in. Hoping that if this is genuine then this lad will give us some pace up top.

It does seem that we're building our attack around Ben Arfa to me. Which is a good idea IMO, I think playing centrally we'll see him cause massive problems. It'd be useful to have a good backup plan for when he's not available though. Seems from yesterday that backup plan is put two big fuckers up front and hoof it at them and hope for the best. Would rather give Vuckic a run, or at least play someone with a bit of pace (Obertan perhaps) up there when HBA is out, which we have to be realistic may be quite a lot.

Krul Simpson Colo Taylor New Left Back Barton Cabaye Tiote Jonas Obertan Shola As much as it makes no sense whatsoever, Shola somehow finds a way to play well against the Mackems. Certainly should start ahead of Ba after Ba's non attempt at a performance yesterday. I'd go with Obertan alongside as we desperately need some pace up top.

Shola and Ba together was a mistake IMO, would rather have played Best alongside one of them to at least give us a bit of energy up top. Unless we sign another pacey striker (i.e not a Bendtner type) then we'll be relying almost entirely on Ben Arfa as our outlet up front this season.

Because as poor as Shola was in the first half, Ba was worse. Can't have had the ball more than 3 or 4 times.

Barton making a tit of himself wasn't fun to watch, and we look woefully short on quality up front... but all in all a point is pretty decent given the Enrique departure and the lack of Ben Arfa/anyone else who can do something in the final third. We'll need to play with a lot more urgency next week mind.
