I’d classify him as a false nine and a half.

More chance of signing Dibling.

I’m gonna go ahead and say I reckon we don’t get this done.

Monday? But I want him now.

To be fair they got him on loan with an obligation last year, the 23m was set before last season. Not a shock that his value is so much higher after his goal return last season.

I’d be a bit disappointed with JSL and Wissa as the Isak replacements, honestly. Both are really good additions individually but ideally I would like a big chunk of the Isak money to be spent on a young striker with massive potential to go alongside a trusted CF. That said, it’s a bi-product of the shite situation we’ve been put in where we may have to sell Isak at a time when we haven’t got the ideal young prospect lined up. I think they’d do more than decently for a couple of years though, at which point we maybe move Wissa on and get a shiny new young certified ballbagman in to replace him, having spent lots on building up the first team and squad in the meantime.

My preference is to sign two strikers and then loan him to Turkey or Saudi after the English deadline passes. We will get less for him next summer in all likelihood but we should get a loan fee this year to offset to some extent. Even still, long term getting 100m for him after the end of June next summer is much the same as getting 120 for him now. (This of course depends on how our PSR figure is looking for next season. If signing two strikers without selling him this summer puts us in major danger, maybe we have to bite the bullet and let him go)

A big, physical target man should suit our style of play extremely well and would add a dimension we’ve lacked. Useful against a low block too having a big man we can send crosses at. (Also think Isak would do extremely well working off a target man FWIW)

Feel like someone he knows had some money on a Brennan Johnson yellow card there

Ideal scenario is get two strikers in before the end of the window and then once the deadline passes we line him up a lucrative season long loan to Turkey or Saudi and tell him his options are reintegrate and earn playing time or take the loan for a season. Make it clear that we won’t be selling him in January.

Managed to hit the woodwork three times against us

Good stuff Willock, get fit so we can sell you please xx

They don’t really have any reason to sell him before deadline day, is the issue. The closer it gets to the deadline without us signing a striker, the more desperate we become and more they can squeeze from us. Hopefully we have several irons in the fire here and it’ll make the potential sellers nervous about trying to get too much from us and losing the deal completely.

I’ve said before that I think the best time to sell him for PSR purposes is likely after the end of June next year. This coming cycle we have the 22/23 figure falling off the books, which was a substantial loss. I don’t know the exact figures for the coming year of course so maybe we’re in a lot of bother but my guess is we’ll be fine next summer for PSR without any major sale. Summer of 2027 is where it’ll get tricky, once the Minteh and Anderson sales boosted 23/24 figure disappears off the books. Sell him after June next summer and our PSR position looks rosey for the next four years. Sell him now and it only looks good for the next three.

That’s fair enough, though I would suggest that at his age he has a fair bit of scope to improve his goalscoring efficiency, especially in a side that suits his strengths better than Maresca’s Chelsea, who are far more possession based. I mean he’s far from my ideal signing, and the name when it was first suggested definitely didn’t get me excited. However, I can see how he’s a decent fit for us.

His game seems very well suited to our style IMO. Not an elegant player at all but seems very comfortable at running with the ball on the counter and at receiving the ball with his back to goal and being able to hold onto it under physical pressure from defenders. Also works very hard off the ball, both in possession to create space/options for teammates and out of possession to press opposition defenders. He’s also another very physical player to add to a team that likes to be able to mix it up and bully teams. As for preferring him to Wissa, that’s mostly due to the PSR hellscape we live in. Resale value is important, much as I wish that weren’t the case.

The more I read about Jackson the more convinced I am he’d be a great fit for us. Would much prefer him to Wissa.
