A very unspectacular loan spell, it has to be said. Just wasn't meant to be (though being managed by Pardew couldn't have helped matters).

Never thought I'd see this day come...this was certainly an overdue departure. I do like him as a person though so wish nothing but luck for him in his future endeavours. What it comes down to though is that Shola, unfortunately, simply offered nothing of real note on the field these days (and indeed during the past few years). The signs were promising between 2002 and 2004, it has to be said, so it was a shame to see Shola descend from being somewhat promising to that of an ineffective player especially when there was a time when he did seem to have an ounce of finishing ability. He won't be missed from a footballing point of view but I'll never forget his performances/goals against the mackems. Good luck Shola.

Might as well lock the thread. This is clearly a no-go. Looks like the established pattern is continuing: - Linked with a big(ish) player; - Gets bigged up in the press, quotes from player/agent; - NUFC make an offer; - Offer declined due to it being derisory; - Up our offer by a bit; - Offer gets rejected; - Player goes somewhere else. - The above wastes 2 months and we start panicking as we have no contingency plan. Repeat the above steps for any other potential player we go for.

Would not mind Rodwell here, made a horrible career move when he went to City but think he would do alright here (provided he gets games of course...). Probably won't get Pardewed too easily...()

I'm afraid that this would literally be best case scenario but he's basically cornered the high street now. I'm hoping that someone uncovers something really dodgy with tax or whatever within Sports Direct, so dodgy that it collapses the company and he's forced to sell us.

The big question for me out of all of this is: what's the point in football when it's continually influenced by business and commercialism? Nothing is sacred anymore and virtually everything is run like a business. Football isn't what it used to be.
