  1. both have huge talent, but i think rooney has a better football brain, and this is whats needed at higher lvl play. as one commentator said last week....the CL is like football chess. At the highest lvls you cant survive on raw ability and talent alone. I dont htink rooney or martins are close to their zenith yet.....we have to hope that martins has mucho development left in the locker!!!
  2. * Jack Cork, Chelsea they did poor job on him. Never heard of him!
  3. agree i would rather get beat of a quality `foreign team` then get beat by spurs, we would never live it down!
  4. the problem is that our national side cannot play high tempo football in major tournaments. Because they are held in the summer. And very often we end up playing in afternoon temps of 30+ Most of the prem is played at temp of 8c or lower. England will NEVER win the world cup outside of europe......even european conditions(afternoon heat) are too much for them.!!! We should invent a seperate competition held in greenland, wed win it every time.
  5. bad news is they are showing our game next week......at least thats what they were claiming last night
  6. i was hoping liverpool would win last night. Its nice to get one over `big` european teams. Barca looked poor last night anyway. Cant say i was rooting for chelsea tho. It doesnt bother me if an english team wins the CL or not, but it just makes more interesting tv watching an english team play than 2 `foreign` sides. I wont support spurs in uefa this year, as i got a nagging feeling we gonna meet them in the final.
  7. people will only get behind a decent manager. roeder is not decent by any definition of the word.
  8. If you were an emgland player of owens standing you would be bursting to play the first game at the new wembley. As much as i hate the fa for wasting so much money on the place, its a very historic occasion. england have really really missed owen up front, they have been gumming their opponents like an 80 year old rabid granny since his injury! eg the attack has been toofless since he got knackered
  9. would be truely ironic if owen does come back on that day, but meanwhile az alkmar knock us out of the cup!
  10. Only reason that people are critical of him is because we have been spoiled with such incredible talent over the last 10 years. Personally Les Ferdinand still ranks as the best striker i have ever seen. Certainly in terms of raw power......Cole had more finese. PErsonally i dont think nartins will be world class, i dont think he reads the game well enough. However having a 20+ goal a season striker is nothing to be sad about) Matins future on tyneside will probably depend if he slots in well with owen. April will be a very interesting month!!
  11. have to agree there toptoon. maybe owen will make milner look decent. atmo most of milners crosses are fallin to ineffectual strikers; martins aerial ability seems to be rather random, just like his overall form atmo. Luque is clearly not a good header of the ball. sibi is better at it than most, but he is bit slow at arriving in the box.
  12. acccording to channel 5 the uefa guy with the cup could not make it......or was lost. Or maybe the cup was kidnapped by iranian terroists, and the randsom note is inc soon... MAybe the efficient folk in europe just forgot about the presentation!
  13. ive never liked milner right from the start. Always thought he had less brains than a spastatic clampet (jess) he often makes poor decisions and his finishing ratio is too low. However i have to admit that in this very mediocre toon team he looks quite bright. In reality though we have had bettter players than him and i hope we will get better RHS players in times to come. FOr now though we have to cope with the erratic yorkshire clod farmer, as the bank is empty and the dogs have run away... I think at this point in time he has justified his 5m price tag, but hes still very average, will never develop into a world class player, which bobby was hoping for.
  14. maybe its more of an action filum. more shooting than dialogue. gazza=the new rambo
  15. rember its half term, sjp will be full of kids.
  16. "We thought about changing the music," Le Floc'h said. "But it is the second most recognised feature after the star ball and we get requests from all over the world for it to be used at weddings." thats unreal. its nice music, but having it at a wedding smaclks of complete mungness. Surely they have a big enough musical knowledge to come up with something less cringey ??
  17. id rather have beckham in midfield with either lampard OR gerrard. Lennon on the RW. I think gerrard should be dropped for a game or 2. His recent performances have been ave,, he needs a shock to wake him up. if rooney is fit i would drop dyer to the bench and play him behind a striker........problem is we only have owen to play up front(so not this season). lankey bugger just isnt good enough. I dont rate defoe either. id like to see dean ashton given a chance, but hes not available either! atmo england in last third have big problems.
  18. Helm talked less drivel last night than normal. He occasionally made a valid point. But he talks garbage most of the time. I think colin murry is quite funny actually. Glad barnes isnt stillin the studio.
  19. its a silly thing that started in a champions league game few years ago. We were playing barca in spain and it started peeing down, so the lads too their tops off, and hailf the spaniards in madrid fainted with the sight. kinda stuck from there ) [at least thats first time i recall seeing barechests at away euro games]
  20. been a while since weve scored a proper "dribbled" goal. He looked as cool as ice in the box ! KInda helped by the keeper going on a world tour off his line tho )
  21. martins had a shocking game. Think he should have been subbed at 65mins. Milner was back to his airheed old self. We looked pretty thin on ideas in last third. Fortunately the own goal left the pattaaaaa farmers in shock and made us look decent for 20mins. A less patched up side coould have won this 5 or 6 to 1. Pitch was bit heavy though, looked like the somme in parts. we gonna be ripped open in the next round. Although i guess we might have parker and emre in midfield by then, so maybe we can look better.....ill bet glender plays 4-5-1 . Can see us reaching last 8 with scrappy win but then getting beat by a proper team
  22. Thats a good point...... sjp is on the crest of a hill....the land slopes away down to the tyne, so you can see it from a good way off. Most of the "big" clubs in england are built on level ground. Mind thinking about it, most stadiums are surrounded by house size buildings and so can be seen form quite a distance anyway. Sjp is the only `big` clyb stadium in the heart of the city.......well it will be when liverpool move. I dont count chelsea, as london is such a sprawling city. i havent been to the emirates, so cant comment on it.
  23. just turned five on and aarrrrrragh they got them annoying commentators on (
