English football doesn't really require any special ability from a player to be able to fit in IMO...it's just very fast paced league and that's exactly the opposite what the current Newcastle team is not! The club is just full of old "already past it" work horses at critical positions such as midfield. Does for example Butt have any sort of "speed" in his thinking when the ball is played at his feet as he is constantly giving it away right away with his next pass? Our midfield's only ability is put our defenders under a big pressure as they can't hold up the ball and play a simple "clever" passes at all. I doubt that even the very best defenders in the world at the moment could really cope with the current midfield ahead of them

I wouldn't...we should bring in a wage policy of no player is worth more than 50K like Arsenal and many others. It's not a matter of how much the players are paid if they just want to do the job for the club. No player deserves more than 50K a week IMO which already is a ridiculous fee considering what they're doing! If they thik they deserve more they can fuck off Just look at the likes of Everton, Aston Villa, Fulham, Wigan etc...

I have no idea how the trial went in January(or it was more like just a visit as he called it himself) for Jukka Raitala but he really did impress in Euro U21 in Sweden. All the class or over hyped players in this competition such as Walcott, Milner and Marko Marin were easily in his back pocket. Raitaila didn't sound too confident when talking about his trial at the club and was sort of disappointed as he was promised to be training with the 1st team which never realized and the behind closed doors friendly against Carlisle? was all reserves as well. Anyway he's cheap(easily less than a million euros...although the price surely went up after his prefomances at the comp) and seems like an ambitious personality. I think a step up to CCC from a local Veikkausliiga level wouldn't be too big for him and we really need a back-up for Enrique(or both FB's position). However I sort of think that our scouting department wasn't too heavily involved in Sweden and on the other hand all players at these games are already well known.

I'd be very very surprised if Owen gets a contract on 50K a week anywhere else! And Ashely were willing to offer him 75K a week back in January or was it even more? That's a prfect example how fucked our current wages policy is...

It doesn't even matter if he's more effective, i'm pretty sure he's on high wages, probably 50k, atleast over 40k. Can we justify paying him those wages in championship? Not in a million years. Yes this is the problem player happy to stay cos of big wages that they wont get anywhere else and this maybe a reoccurring theme in the coming weeks The only reason behind players committing themselves to the club is their huge wages they cannot get anywhere else! I'm shit scared about our financial situation as we clearly can't get rid of these high earners but it's all down to the disastrous management at teh club and there's really no-one you can blame about it except the club itself! We've been throwing money away on wages for so long that it was only a matter of time until it hits back at us. The only way we can think of to getting rid of Nolan, Barton etc is to buy out their contracts and compensate their remaining wages which won't be any cheaper than keeping them until the expiration dates unless they'd agree on some kind of a mutual termination...they are no professionals and got no ambition and won't agree to leave even if we offer them for free as their current deals are so good

I don't care how good Barton is(or can be as he hasn't showed any of his so called ability while at Newcastle IMO) but at the moment he's just a trouble I think both financially(because of his huge ages) and sportingly. The sooner Big Al kicks him out of the wage budget the better. We have had our fair share of trouble makers in the past so how about investing for some real team spirit for once?
