    Sunderland...

But when they go to Old Trafford they sing YNWA and Blue Moon (not even joking). To add to that, in the first season that they started singing YNWA against Manu to wind up their fans I distinctly remember listening to them play against Liverpool weeks before at the SOS, and you could hear them booing and whistling when the Liverpool fans were singing YNWA. You just can't make it up.
  3. I've got no issue with people singing, as I'm one of those people myself. It was when certain people from Level 7 were coming on here after games last year, acting like they were superior to other people in the ground because they were stood up singing all game. (Not saying that you're one of those btw) I've seen loads of people make these accusations but never seen actual posts/quotes that back up this belief that people from level 7 believe they're in any way superior. I can see there being a few issues with standing as well, depending on how many actually make the move down to the corner. It's a great shame really, the club really has fucked over the fans. It'd be great to see the SE corner turn into a standing area over the next few seasons though, I remember when there was nobody stood in Level 7 and from just a few people it eventually progressed into 1,000 or so standing before the LC was introduced. Either way the Gallowgate is the best stand for creating an atmosphere so hopefully this season it'll be rocking.
  4. Shola played a blinder like, never thought I'd witness him score a hat-trick again.

    Sunderland...

Post makes you sound clueless. Where else does it go on? How about Manchester and Liverpool, one side taking the piss out of footballers dying in a plane crash and the other taking the piss out of 96 people being crushed to death. Newcastle and Sunderland isn't an exception, plenty of teams have rivalries, and if you can't get your head around it then I pitty you as it's one of the best things about supporting a club.

There's no such thing as TU anymore. Ah. When they were around i'm sure it used to try and distance itself from fighting though? Of course. As a group obviously, but you've got to take into account this doesn't shape the opinions of individuals.

  9. You're right, they're not common, but I can still relate football with pitch invasions. I can accept your opinion though, just allow me to have mine
  10. Seems about right from what I've read, some Darlo fans got a kick and sent packing to their own end. Having watched videos of the invasion I can't help but feel a few people are over reacting. Part of the parcel with football imo. Dont be daft man. Pitch invasions aren't part of football? For me they are. Like I said, just my own opinion. In the last 15 years, I can only remember one NUFC picth invasion and that was at Plymouth in May 09. Wasn't exactly talking about Newcastle mind. Cup finals and the like, not just in England but also taking into account stuff I've seen from around World. Seems pretty widespread and common culture at football to me. To say they aren't part of the game seems more stupid to me if I'm being honest.

Standing hasn't been too much of an issue in the SE corner for cup games when it's usually got a block or 2 stood, as far as stewards are concerned. I remember one game there was a good few season ticket holders and most didn't mind that they had to stand. I doubt there'll be more than a few rows stood next season though, but I'm sure as the years progress more and more people will stand up.

More likely to be the refusal to sit down in that area tbh. Which is more a case of the Police exerting a bit of pressure. How did you work that one out bud? It's not against the law to stand, it's against ground regulations which is the role of the steward. Police have no say.

    Sunderland...

Saw someone reading what I assume was the Sunlun echo today, back page was headlined with top dogs, captioned with something about Sunderland winning bragging rights and getting 'revenge'
  17. Watching 3,000+ Geordies doing the Nolan at the Stadium of Sh*te was something else like. The stunned silence from the mackems for the whole game was amazing, can honestly say they were probably the worst home following I've ever seen.
  18. In that type of standing area, aren't the seats locked and only get unlocked for european matches where you aren't allowed standing areas? I also thought (in seat locked/standing mode) each seat was for 2 people, that's why they have 2 steps in front of 1 seat. So they can double the capacity of that area in standing configuration, which also allows ticket prices for that area to be reduced whilst not making a loss. The point in the seats is for half time/if people need to sit down or whatever - everyone else will remain stood as it's obviously a standing section. The seat is there for comfort and like you said to make it easy to follow the rules for European competition.
  19. Er, nope. Care to back any of that up? You can't. You're not to fault though, given that this story has been reported in the wrong light by various media sources. Just look at the title of this thread. Nobody is calling for a 'return of terraces' so that makes this argument pointless. The bill to introduce standing as well as the FSF are showcasing the safe standing model from Germany, in specific the one that allocates everyone a seat and has a railing. How the media has confused this with terracing only goes to show their complete ignorance on the subject. This is safer than all seater stadiums. Why? Because you actually have a barrier infront of you preventing falls. Claims are made that currently people standing infront of seats is unsafe. So why, when this proven method is available, are these people left as 'safety risks' and not offered a safe choice? Don't say they shouldn't stand in the first place, that won't stick. If thousands of people are stood at every game that takes place on the weekend then doesn't that tell you something? Fans want it, it can be done safely, and the bottom line is, safe standing or not, people can and will continue to stand at football. Let's give these people a safe choice, which works out perfectly for everyone. You can find out more about the safe standing model here. The FSF are going to take an example of safe standing to football clubs all over the country to showcase this model and dispell this myth of 'terracing' being brought back. Lastly here's an article from the Guardian that's actually balanced and knows what it's talking about: click.

Was plenty of leaflets regarding the move down to Level 4 flying around the Leazes corner today thanks to Jordan & co, everyone seemed to be speaking about it. Seems like the idea was well received tbh, I reckon I'll move down if I can afford it.

What was the reason for bringing in seating only stadiums? 90% is also about right, not 90% people want to stand but 90% back giving fans the option to stand, which is more than fair enough. Of course it is fair enough, but the standing terraces were taken away for "safety reasons" weren't they? The fact that people want them back is irrelevant. People don't want them back, well they do, but what's actually being proposed and promoted by all those in favour of standing is actually the German Safe Standing model, not the terraces of old. They were taken away because the grounds were old and in terrible condition, standing has never been proven unsafe and the Germans manage it in stadiums that hosted 2006 World Cup games. There's loads more I could write. I actually helped produce a short documentary on the subject very recently. Explains pretty much everything, if I say so myself. Mainly the fact that a Bill has been introduced - and is being debated - to allow clubs to build German style Safe standing areas.

What was the reason for bringing in seating only stadiums? Ask the bin dippers. Has f*** all to do with standing though. Nobody wants to return to anything like Hillsborough, it was a horrible disaster but to say it's even related to the current debate is beyond pointless, there's just no argument in my mind. Sadly it's one of the main problems in relation to us being able to progress to safe standing areas, people are so misinformed and clueless on the subject.
