It's a pity you hadn't informed Douglas Hall of that, we might not have ended up with Souness.

Simpson only played once, Bristol City away I think, it was his only game for us, he'd been a substitute a few times before that but I can't remember him even coming off the bench, I don't think he ever played at St James. The only time he might have played was against West Ham of the same season, 1990 -91.

I'm not trying to make a point, I was interested to see actually what we'd spent on transfers so started looking. It doesn't matter which way it turns out, I'd just like to know, that's all.

I wasn't trying to nit pick, I was trying to find out if you thought that the transfer fee was less than £250k. You've already confirmed what I thought about Goddard which is good. I've also found this about Simpson http://www.talkofthetyne.net/93201.html 1990/91 N.Simpson 1/4 0 Neil came from Aberdeen (£500,000) having been 'kicked out' of Scotland because of "that tackle" on a Rangers player. Durrant had his leg smashed and Neil headed south after death threats. Only made one start. Looked good when he was on the field, but was a bit like Marcelino. Honestly I don't care what that says, I know fine well he was £100,000. Sure Aitken was £500,000 that's where the site editors getting mixed up. I would be very surprised if he'd cost the £500k mentioned, I've seen somewhere that Simpson had to pay £400k in damages to Durrant.

He might be getting confused with David Mills going to WBA for £500k, I thought Trewick was £250k. Who said he wasn't? You said "John Trewick was the record buy for less than half of that." I took that as meaning that he was less than half of £500k.

Sorry about the Tony Cummings one, it was meant to be Tony Cunningham. Jack Charlton bought him from Man City and the reason for buying him was that part of our crowd were dishing out racist chants so Charlton bought a black player to shut them up. I seem to remember something in the region of £120,000 but I don't want to use guess work as my memory isn't brilliant about that one. I think Kevin Brock went to Stevenage on a free transfer but I can't say that with 100% certainty so I'm not going to add him to my got list yet. John Bird came from Preston for £50,000 plus players, was it him who Bobby Charlton resigned over? They sold him to us so Bobby resigned because he didn't want to sell him? Macca888, are you sure about the £800k for Goddard? I remember the £415k mentioned by NE15 but I didn't want to use my own guess.

As some people keep saying that we were a selling club I decided to look up the figures to see if this was correct as it’s easy to see a few big sales and go along with the idea. So far I’ve been able to track down the values since we last won a trophy, 1969 and the Fairs Cup. So far I’ve identified the transfers of 135 players out and 111 players in up until Keegan became manager. The value that I have found for transfers out is £13,621,333.33 and the value for transfers in is £15,365,500.00. Both of these figures include all of the major transfers both in and out so no single transfer will make a major difference. At this stage it would appear that we might have broke even at best/worst depending how you look at it but it's too early to say, £1,744,167 is a lot of money to make up considering the big ones are out of the way. The transfers that I’m missing are as follows: In Graham Oates, David Mills, Tony Cunningham, Andy Thomas, Paul Goddard, John Cornwall, Michael O’Neill, Lee Payne, Archie Gourlay, Ray Ranson, Rob Macdonald, Benny Kristensen, Paul Sweeney and Wayne Ferraday. Out Andy Thomas, Benny Kristensen, Billy Askew, Billy Whitehurst, Chris Hedworth, Darren Bradshaw, Dave Elliott, Dave Barton, David Kelly, David McCreery, David Mills, Frans Koenen, John Bird, John Trewick, Keith Kennedy, Kevin Brock, Lee Payne, Mark Stimson, Martin Thomas, Mick Martin, Neil Simpson, Pat Howard, Paul Goddard, Paul Sweeney, Peter Johnson, Rob Macdonald, Roger Jones, Steve Hardwick and Terry Hibbitt. Does anybody know any of the transfer details shown above?

We could use him if he's still got his boots.

I've just read the first line again and it reminded me why I didn't read it in the first place, I stopped reading when you were crowing on about your cyber emotion monitor and how the poster you were replying to wasn’t half as pissed off as you. What was your question again?
-
No, I'll just create loads of pointless topics and get banned. I'm only joking of course, nobody is daft enough to do that, are they?
-
It was a good post without your rubbish in it, you seem unable to write a post like that.
-
Good post and a post that I agree with from first line to 2nd last, I would guess that even the bits I don't agree with are not poles apart from what you feel.

Why will he not be back in football management in Germany? Has he said anything about his future plans?

To the world, since HTL has brought it up, I once, in my Teens, stole a car. 10 years ago almost to be precise. My sincere apologies to all car owners and motorists. I assure everyone I'm a reformed character now. I hope no-one holds it against me or brings it up in every post  Keep posting while I go and put the car away.

Embedded video required I think.

From the Chelsea's of their day too... It would be interesting to see whether for example we could keep a hold of N'Zogbia if Arsenal or Chelsea were to show an interest. I doubt it. We couldn't keep a hold of Woodgate when Real come knocking, although in hindsight that was a great deal. Anyway, IIRC neither Gazza nor Beardsley wanted out, or handed a transfer request in, Gazza didn't even know he was leaving until it was all done, his agent took him away from us and we nor he could turn down the money, he even says in his book had he stayed maybe fortunes would have been different for him and NUFC. Not exactly sure what happened to Beardsley, I think with him once Liverpool showed up there was no going back, trophies on a plate, but it's not as if he courted a move or handed in a transfer request. Again, I'd like to see us keep a hold of N'Zogbia if Arsenal or Chelsea came in for him. Waddle, not so sure, never liked him anyway, always thought him to be a bit of a snide and people who've met him say he's a false Geordie, i.e. when it suits him, bit like Steve Bruce. I bet those slagging the old board for selling Gazza et al weren't slagging them when we signed KK, the equivalent of an 8m signing today, and we were a second division club back then. How many 1st Division sides signed the then England Captain? He turned down Man Utd for us and we paid him mega wages at the time. Is that not ambition? Waddle isn't a false Geordie, he's a mackem, at least in the sense of supporting Sunderland. Waddle left for the money and because he couldn't get on with Jack Charlton. How do you know, were you there? Get that from your history books? Shit, I've been rumbled. I'm only taking the credit for that one as it will make people think that I can actually read.

Waddle was known as Judas at the time and got more stick than any other former player that I can remember, a lot was directed at his wife.

Andy Cole. Yes I know, it was a while ago like I said. We would sell any of our current players if we were offered a British record. Would that make us a selling club? What defines a selling club?
-
The sales of Gazza and Beardsley brought in British transfer records, it's a long time since we did that.

He's old enough to be Im your father. Thou shalt respect thy father ! Respect me, my son, or feel the wrath of my cane on your pink behind ! Christ. Misread that for a moment, thought it said: Respect me, my son, or feel the wrath of my pink cane on your behind !
