Dyer for me is the epitome of unfulfilled potential. At 28 there's no point hanging on waiting for him to come good, he'll never do it for us consistently. In fact as age takes its toll his injury problems will probably increase and his pace will disappear. The suspicion remains he never has and never will take care of himself either, and it's telling that Sam seemed quite happy to let him go. Good luck to him and all that but on balance I think this is a very good deal for us. I trust Sam to reinvest the money wisely, hopefully with more cash thrown in on top, in a tippety-top playmaker and RB. There should be money in the kitty - so far we have spent something like half a million quid netto this transfer window

Oliver seems to be getting worse if that's possible. That last line should read: But when I asked Allardyce today if he had decided on his captain he replied "Get your hands off me you old tramp or I'll call the Police, now piss off"
-
No wonder he's had a bad hip then
-
That's cause Sir Bobby thought he was Carl Cort....Souness thought he was a 'proper player' and Roeder thought he was 'world class'. Big Sam probably thinks he's a masseur

It's make or break time for him I think. Sam has stuck with him because he's not bad for a fourth or fifth choice striker and offers a bit of variety to the others. He's not a target man or a pacey frontrunner, he's a sort of loping-gangly-get-in-the-way-of-everybody-type of player. Like Asprilla without the skill. He'll really need to sharpen up his game if he's going to have a future though - better first touch, less silly fouls, sharper to the ball, not give the ball away, more mobility, more of a goal threat - he's had the excuse of injury before now but it's shit-or-get-off-the-pot time imo. The suspicion remains he talks a good game but he's not good enough

If you strip away the idle speculation, piss and wind, Parky ITK insider dealings and Alan Oliver exclusives, you know as much as anyone else

"Well Mr Barton, I feel the evidence is fairly cut and dried and the best course of action is to plead guilty and claim mitigating circumstances on your behalf" * Barton lets out a bellow and rushing forward grabs lawyer in headlock, wheeling him around the room knocking over the chairs and papers* "Youse calling me a liar like?! Come 'head then, come 'head, I'll fuckin do ya like I did that French cunt!" "Ah, ah, ah, on second thoughts Mr Barton I fully support your plea of not guilty, you're obviously blameless!"
-
It makes perfect sense to me to sell him, given his age, wages and injury record. I doubt we'll miss him in the long run. There must be other pacey headless chickens who can't shoot out there.

All aboard the Yo-Yo Express :icon_biggrin:

It's all bluster. At the moment the smart money is on the magic carpet winging its way into the Coca Cola without delay, like most years they get promoted.

Is it likely Sol will sign for us? Would be a good stop gap signing....but does he want to come to us? And would 'Arry let him go?
-
No it's not. If you were going Roman on us, it would be agendae not agendi. It's only -i for the plural if the singular ends in -us. As it happens agenda is the plural, of agendum. [/smug t***]
-
I guess this was inevitable and I thought he'd already gone tbh. I doubt he's irreplaceable but I don't know what his job was so hard to say
-
There does seem to have been a lot of speculative s*** in the rags as well so far, to be fair
-
Stop it. I'm just saying that if we did get him, it would match up with my 3-5-2 theory in the 3-5-2 thread. If the moon was made of cheese, that would match up with my theory that you can spread a piece of the moon on a Jacob's cracker

Rubbish. Deco ain't got nothing on Laryea Kingston right? Deco is a great player, but sadly these reports are wide of the mark I fear. If they weren't I'd be the first to congratulate our negotiating team. It is clear when building a global brand that one route is to get players of other nationalities and sentimental followings in other countries to raise the profile of the club and Deco fits the bill. However it is my understanding that Barca want to keep him for another year. Time will tell. I'd be happy to be proven wrong. Alan? Alan Oliver? Is that you?

Surely if the Journal wrote it, it must be true?
-
it made sense to all but the simple no coincidence he calls himself Bramble tbh No, it made very little sense. I've really missed you by the way, where've you been? 2 week ban. another shocking fit-up tbh Tsk tsk, those crazy mods, eh?

must have missed the bit where you get a Premier league medal for playing for England
-
I'm still hoping they'll sign Ian Harte and Stephen Carr for their fullbacks
-
Exactamundo, if you want real journalism take a look over at the Austria Training Camp thread! How long before Oliver borrows it? "And a source close to the Newcastle camp tells me that morale is high, even if reports that Stephen Carr isn't a fat useless lump are wide of the mark. Indeed my source tells me the little fat Irishman was close to losing his breakfasts at training today."

Maybe Heinze isn't the same player since he got fettled?

Roeder is bitter, deluded, sad. He's still convinced he can turn it round with a bit of 'luck'. I've no idea what he hopes to achieve but he just looks pathetic with comments like these.
