Can't say that I could share your optimism tbh. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/sport/football.html?in_article_id=559997&in_page_id=1779&ito=newsnow Rangers defender Carlos Cuellar has snubbed a move to Newcastle United, insisting he is not interested in playing for a "club at the bottom". Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan was keen on bringing the Spanish defender, who is this season's player of the year in Scotland, to St James' Park and travelled to Glasgow to watch him play on two occasions. But Cuellar, 26, has three-and-a-half years left on his contract and says he would much rather stay at Ibrox and "win trophies" rather than "play for a club at the bottom". http://www.tribalfootball.com/article.php?id=88040 Rangers defender Carlos Cuellar has ruled out a move to the Premiership. A target for Newcastle United and Tottenham, Cuellar said: "I have a contract for three years. I want to stay at Rangers for life. "I always liked the idea of playing in a big league with other big players but now I'm very happy here. "I play in the Champions League, I can win the league, the UEFA Cup - now I'm playing in a big team in Europe.''

Should be the first player through the door TBH. Wouldn't cost alot Plenty of experiance Partnership with Faye Captain Fooking good too There was a rumour going around about a month or so ago that he might off to the Al Jazeera to replace Senderos but don't know if there was any truth in it. Would be a class signing for them like. Who you's lot going to replace King with, can't imagine Ramos putting his faith in him next year? Without exaggeration, there must be near to a dozen options on the picklist, will depend in part who represents best value for money. There may well be 2 CD's signed as some in the squad haven't impressed Ramos. The same applies with a GK, there are quite a few options but I think there is some agreement in place with Rangers for McGregor, though tbh, I don't really know too much about him. Some are saying he is barely an improvement on Robinson.

Bostock has turned down offers from Chelsea and Liverpool saying he'll sign only for Palace . Don't know anything about the other one.

Nor can I tbh. I know for a fact there was a lot of mutual respect how both sides handled themselves. Carrick had his head turned by Yanited, said he wouldn't have been leaving for any other club. Levy never spoke about reporting Utd, said he understood and wouldn't stop him if the right offer came in, Carrick was patient and didn't throw a strop when it all went quiet and when the right offer came in the deal was completed inside 2 days. There is an option for Spurs to re-sign him should Carrick become available but, tbh, Carrick has proved himself at a higher level and he would be looking to stay at that level. At the time we signed him Spurs were good for Carrick and Carrick was good for Spurs. A lot of water has gone under the bridge since then.

I agree that Spurs will do better than this season (which, Carling Cup apart, shouldn't be difficult) but one of the teams to watch along with Newcastle, City and Villa? I don't think so. Berbatov is 99% certain to be gone along with a couple of other high profile names and more upheaval will only delay progression. It obviously depends on who comes in, how they settle and how quickly Ramos can get them all gelled into a decent looking team but right now I'd be guessing 8th-10th, no better than that. Berbatov's going? To? He's told Levy he wants out and while we can still keep him for another 3 years (1 more + a 2 year option) Levy has told him that we wouldn't stand in his way if the right offer came in. That's why there's the noises about £40m, we won't get that, but Levy is obviously trying to set the bar high. From the little I've heard, and it is only a little, Inter have mentioned numbers nearest to Levy's bar and Man Utd suggested a player with cash deal with Carrick going in the opposite direction. Carrick would have been fine, just what we need tbh, but the cash suggested fell a long way short. What will eventually happen God only knows but I would be amazed to see Berba at WHL next season (apart from playing for the opposition). Other clubs have enquired but I don't know who.

No, I just thought your reasoning about that bit was s***. So I decided to ignore it. So you honestly think this is exactly like when we signed Emre and Parker? You're a nonce mate, and I can't be bothered debating with you anymore. Face it, Shearergol. You thought Tiago wouldn't come here because hes already rejected spurs and, in your opinion, you think Spurs are a more attractive club than Newcastle. So why would he want to sign for us? (Even though there isn't much between the 2 clubs) Wellthats a load of bollocks, mate. No, I just thought your reasoning about that bit was s***. So I decided to ignore it. It's been widely reported in the media that Tiago still wants to play CL football and not take a paycut (reputed to be on c £90k pw, a hangover from his Chelsea days). Spurs fall down on both counts. Vindicated tbh I'm a realist! Also being reported on a few sites that Lennon may be on his way to SJP for a knockdown £4m. Lennon may make the move but I can't see Levy selling anyone on the cheap tbh.

What also is needed is Whinger to teach the players to lose with dignity.................... http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/5904/fabretwatls5.jpg That was Rooney's shirt btw.

How much for these players at PEAK in modern day money?
Martin Lol replied to Dokko's topic in Football
Absolutely correct. Juventus bid £2m for Pele in 1957 when the then world record transfer fee was £72000. The Brazilian government declared him a National Treasure that could not be exported so he played his entire meaningful football career in Brazil with Santos. FWIW Juve still broke the world record transfer fee in 1957 by signing Sivori for £93000, but unfortunately Sivori doesn't live long in the memory like Pele. -

Chelsea and Barca amongst others tried previously to sign him, apparently he wants to continue his development at Palace. When he does move on, I think it will be to a CL team with a fee to match.
-
Tragic? Totally agree, absolutely gutted for the pikeys.

Even SUPERTOON beat you to that one. The Croatian media are now saying Liverpool have made a firm bid for Modric so I think he can be crossed off the shopping list. Xabi Alonso becoming available?
-
Maybe just agent talk, but Lisandro Lopez is reputed to be on the radar of the usual suspects, Spurs, Newcastle and Man City. FWIW, I don't expect him to be on Ramos's shopping list.

Dynamo Zagreb President Zdravko Mamic met with Levy and Comolli at WHL on Tuesday. Modric was the reason for the meeting, the fee wanted is £18m (don't know how that equates to 's) but I wouldn't say that Spurs are close to signing him, just very interested. They are also very interested in signing Danijel Pranjic from Heerenveen though it's today been reported that Ajax also want him. A Croatian MF next season?? Do you work for Sun Sport or what MJ? No and I don't work for the Times either. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/tottenham/article3716692.ece Tottenham out to get creative with move for playmaker Luka Modric Gary Jacob Tottenham Hotspur have held discussions with Dynamo Zagreb about the possibility of signing Luka Modric. Officials from the North London club met their Croatian counterparts on Tuesday in an effort to steal a march on other Barclays Premier League sides chasing the signature of the Croatia midfield player. Juande Ramos, the Tottenham head coach, was unable to persuade Tiago, the Portugal and former Chelsea holding midfield player, to join the club in January from Juventus. He has since come to the conclusion that he needs a more creative player in the centre of midfield and that is now one of his primary ambitions for this summer's transfer window. Zdravko Mamic, the Zagreb president, has priced Modric at about £18million and has spoken to several other English clubs, including Manchester City, Chelsea and Newcastle United. Modric, 22, was instrumental in helping his country to beat England 3-2 in the crucial European Championship qualifying match at Wembley in November, a defeat that led to Steve McClaren's departure as England head coach. Modric's vision and passing have earned praise from many observers and he can play on the left side of midfield or as a playmaker behind the forwards. Ramos's priority is to sign at least one goalkeeper, two defenders, a midfield player and a forward. Carlos Kameni is one of the leading contenders among the goalkeepers that remain under consideration. The Espanyol player can be bought for €6million (about £4.7million), but a potential deal has become considerably more expensive in recent months because the pound has fallen almost 9 per cent in value against the euro on currency exchange markets this year. Ramos has shown interest in Diego López, the Villarreal goalkeeper, who came through the Real Madrid youth system and was the second choice behind Iker Casillas at the Bernabéu for two seasons. The 26-year-old has since established himself at Villarreal, where he has three years left on his contract, which includes a release clause of about £27 million. Marco Amelia, the Livorno goalkeeper who was in Italy's World Cup squad in 2006, has claimed that Tottenham were close to signing him in January. He attracted interest from Manchester City last summer. Tottenham have watched Maarten Stekelenburg, but have doubts about the Ajax goalkeeper. Tottenham could also need a second-choice goalkeeper, with Radek Cerny expected to leave at the end of the season, but Ben Alnwick may be promoted. Alnwick has yet to play for Tottenham, but has been on loan at Luton Town, of Coca-Cola League One, and Leicester City, of the Championship, this season.

Man City have offered £11m for JJ, not been told yes, not been told no either. It's obvious that he can go if the money is right and there is a replacement signed, maybe KK might start a bidding war?? Oh ok, KK wont then!

You've included Brown as being better than Taylor? Brown looks respectable because of the players around him, not his ability. If it were a choice of Taylor or Brown, I would be far happier having Taylor in the centre of my defence. Incidentally, the comments about Brown can also apply to Senderos except Gallas looks after his own zone and not Senderos' as well. Taylor is better and also has greater potential to improve than Senderos imho.

Good idea for Aston Villa and society in general.

Had a hamstring injury couple of months ago, apparently came back too soon and suffered a setback. That's what I was told the week before last. That would explain why Whinger hasn't been picking him! He's not in the scum squad playing Spurs reserves tonight. Not optimistic but I'll be there all the same.

As England are top of the international Fair Play League, a Uefa Cup place will be given to the top English team not already in Europe by right instead of going into a draw for a place. Looks like Dr Spectrum will be happy next season.

I don't know how accurate it is but I have been told that the medication he takes reacts badly with alcohol, couple of pints and he appears ratarsed. It could explain why drinking to excess hasn't previously been a problem, but with his knee problems, if he is now drinking like a fish I wouldn't blame him. I'd be pissed off if I were in his shoes.

An indication of how little faith Ramos has Lennon's ability to deliver a half decent cross once in a while. I do like Ramos' attitude to anyone who isn't performing for whatever reason. Irrespective of whether it is a leading light or a squad player, JR's reaction is the same, They won't play if they don't match up to what Ramos wants. Lennon has to improve his final ball, doing extra training, Gilberto has some weight to lose and I won't even begin to tell you why JJ has been absent for the past couple of matches.

......... or maybe he is a wannabe gangsta ........... whatever that is. There's strong rumours that SGE has offered £12m for Lennon but Levy wants around £16m. If there is £12m on the table I'd snap their hand off because I don't believe he's worth anything like that at the present time.
