Why isn't Bilyaletdinov starting? Why hasn't he started more games this season?

Strikers fouling defenders when they're pressuring them. Ameobi's always guilty of this. The defender has the ball near the corner flag, desperately wanting to clear it out for a throw-in but rushing in from behind comes the attacker, pushes the defender over and gives away the cheap foul, meaning the defender now has an easy to restart the game by passing back to his 'keeper or just hoofing it up himself. I think any striker who's guilty of this more than once or twice in his career should be instantly sacked because it's a criminal waste of possession (well, possession that is about to be had), and because it's such a low-reward move. So, you might steal the ball in the corner, but the defender will still be there and you'll have no support. Instead, you could have just let him put it into touch and you'd still have the throw-in in a pretty good position.

If we beat Stoke we'll be on 7 points after 6 matches. That's survival form to me.

He does get into decent positions at times, but anyone would if they set up camp in the opposition's penalty area. I'm sure he'll score more goals this season purely because all the loose balls that dropped their way yesterday will drop ours and his way but it doesn't hide the fact that he contributes nothing to our attacking play and becomes impossibly invisible when he drops into the midfield role. How did he end up being such a useless wanker?

If Smith is out, it's very possible for us to steal a point there. Their midfield is far superior but they've got fuck all up front. If Distin and Hibbert plays then we'll have some joy attacking and we all know that Carroll's going to cause them some trouble so there's still a chance of us nicking a goal and coming out with a point.

If they were all crap than nobody was our best midfielder Best is a relative term you spaz. Being the best means being better than everybody else. We had four midfielders on the pitch. They weren't good today, most of them were crap, but Jonas was better than the other three. Hence, he was our best midfielder.

That one time when he went past two players and cut it back right into the perfect position, 3 yards from the goal but all our attackers - all four or five of them - were stood flat-footed waiting at the penalty spot was frustrating as shit. That sequence of events pretty much summed up the match for me.

Yeah but Barton was woeful, Routledge couldn't get into the game and let's not mention Smith, which means, by default, that Jonas was our best midfielder.

Charlie Adam was exceptional today. He ran the show and Godrin was the 'water carrier'.

He's not really a hard worker, though, TT. He strolls around the pitch, which is why his man is always free to receive the ball in space, then Smith will come lunging in in an all-or-nothing tackle. If he was marking his man in the first place, maybe he wouldn't need to try stupid tackles and we'd recover possession earlier and easier. We just need someone with an engine in midfield. Look at what Grondin did for B'Pool today, look at what Etuhu does for Fulham, look at N'Zonzi does for Blackburn. These are teams that we can compete with but aren't because we always, always lose the battle in midfield because ours in non-existent.

He waited too long to make the substitutions. I don't understand why you have to wait 70 minutes to sub off the shit players when they've been shit for the whole match and don't look like improving. Routledge was quite shit today so he deserved to go off but Jonas was our only attacking outlet, why take him off? Leaving Ben Arfa on the bench for ages was a mistake.

Make no mistake, Blackpool were lucky as fuck because their 'keeper was in top form and all the loose balls fell to them, so in other, similar matches we'll score, but god damn it's incredibly frustrating to lose at home and especially to a team like Blackpool who are our rivals for survival.

Ben Arfa eased into the game quite slowly but he looked up for in the last five minutes. When he settles in and isn't as tentative as he was today - fully understandable and expected, tbh- he'll be pretty good imo.

Reality check for Hughton today. Outwitted by Holloway whose plan of snuffing out our midfield - our wingers, especially - by pressuring high up the pitch worked to perfection.

I don't care how many goals he scored last year, I don't care how many goals he'll score this year because every time he starts, we're effectively playing with 10 men. He's fat, he's slow, his touch is horrible, he's constantly fouling the opposition, straying into offside positions and generally just being a moaning c***. He's a pathetic footballer, and I can't believe this c*** is our captain. How Hughton left him on for 90 minutes today I'll never know because he stopped running after 60.
