That Uefa Cup semi final away at Barcelona.. He must have told his entire team not to leave their own half the entire match. The most defensive approach to a football match I've ever seen. Worked for him, works for Mourinho. He's a smart and very experienced manager. People are judging him solely based on his time at Liverpool but his career spans many, many more years and this will serve him well at Villa.

Excellent appoinment for villa, IMO. He's experienced, knowledgable. He's managed in the premiership and did all right, he has an abundance of knowledge regarding young players, he's not afraid to venture outside the English market and his Lyon team played good football and played well in Europe. He's a cut above o'neill and the likes of redknapp and moyes so if Lerner is patient, houllier, age and health related issues permitting, will be very good for them.

None of our players have the ability to consistently make those through passes so that's probably why none of our players makes those runs. When Ben arfa's in the middle of the pitch and is able to hold on to possession, our players will make runs naturally. We have no one who cam actually hold onto the ball and make those passes in the opposition's half.

This window has been good for us. It's delivered far, far more than what I expected, and, to be honest, more than what we needed if you compare it to our rivals. We've done well. I'm glad that we won't be involved in the mad rush.

I would think Ben Arfa would be played as a sub a few times to begin with but Hughton will want to limit the amount of appearances that he wastes on meaningless sub appearances given the limit of 25. Unless he seriously impresses to begin with and we decide to commit and play him, then he'll be played only in games where it matters, imo, and then unleashed later on when he's more settled and when the appearances limit will not be as strong a constraint as it might be now.
