  1. We'll win matches. Football might be fun to watch again. I know relegation would be financially disastrous but the feeling on match days will be different; I won't be expecting the worse, being content with scraping draws. We'll be favourites for games, we'll be playing the ball in the opposition's half, we'll score a shit load (hopefully, anyway...) and that'll be fun. Supporting the team lately has been almost a chore because we're shit and the players can't even be arsed and that's not why I fell in love with football. Just winning more often will be good.
  2. First time in 20 something years that we've lost three consecutive matches at St James' according the commentator on my tv today. What happened to that fortress of ours?
  3. We're running out of matches. I'm on a 6.
  4. Why is it always a contest? This is the Martins thread and he was shit today. So was Owen, happy? It seems like a contest because when the manager decides to make a sub, it's always Martins who comes off and many are wondering why it isn't someone who's out of form, putting in zero effort and shirks challenges like Owen? Martins wasn't good today but he's the best we've got, like it or not.
  5. So who in our team do you think is more reliable in terms of scoring goals then?
  6. And he's the only striker we have with any actual pace. Its a complete myth, he doesn't use it when he should be. Like when he created that chance that Owen fluffed? Or when he easily spun away from Terry and shot (something that Owen failed to do...)? Yeah, it's a complete myth.
  7. I didn't find one single point in that post to give me any cheer. I remember wishing it was Robert about to take that free kick. R. Taylor has been poor today in just about everything. Sorry Obviously I'm pleased because we look on for a point but I also feel that they're there for the taking and we just need to be a bit more incisive and confident. Some of our players just look to pass the ball off immediately because they're afraid to take players on and that's easy to defend against because the ball's almost always going backwards. I've highlighted the negatives because we can change them with a bit of effort and get the points today.
  8. Eh? When was this stone cold pen? About 30 seconds before the half time whistle, Terry trying to swap shirts with Owen. Yeah nah. 1 - It was outside the box 2 - It was six of one and half a dozen of the other. Hardly. Why would Owen want to grapple with Terry when he can run around him? He can't. He's slow as fuck. What happened was similar to the Anelka/Beye thing in that Beye defended well by just pressuring and harrying Anelka, leaning into him to put him off. Terry similarly leant into Owen and lead him away from the ball; all perfectly legal.
  9. Why's everyone making a fuss over the Owen/Terry thing? It was excellent defending; nothing wrong with it at all, just good old strength and positioning to lead Owen away from the ball.
  10. Ryan Taylor... can he be any worse? Shit free kicks, rash tackling and possessing no positional sense whatsoever. We're doing ok. Our midfield is being overrun but we're tracking their runs so we've limited their chances. In attack, we haven't done much. Owen's still as useless as ever even though he's putting in some effort so our hopes really rest with Martins. Jonas has been ok but he's not getting the ball in a position where he can do something with it. Nolan has been invisible so saying that, I'd bring Guthrie on because he'd be able to spray it around a bit. We should get a few more chances in the second half because Chelsea will push on more but that means that our defending has to be even better than it's been so far.
  11. 9/10. Got the Elvis one wrong.
  12. I said some time ago that Shearer would only come in if he was given full control of the club. Ashley didn't want to abandon the structure after KK left but he's caved in now. Well done to Shearer; he knew what he wanted and got it.
  13. The Argentinians gave up pretty early on; they stopped running, no support from the midfield and they were launching long balls up to fucking Messi, Aguero and then Tevez. You know, when you have the most exciting footballer on the planet but who happens to be a midget, you don't launch a ball up for him try to head. The whole game had a weird feeling. The flight of the ball was different and shots from 30yrds+ all seemed like it was going to fly in. The pitch was also horrible and why neither team could string more than a few passes together.
