Thought Gutierrez and Enrique linked up very well at the start of the second half and I genuinely believed that we were going to romp to a win after Shola equalised. Shola's goal was coming and after that, we just piled on shot after shot. Was there not a foul that lead-up to the Colo trip? From far away it looked as if one of theirs pushed one of ours, stole the ball and the next thing I remember is Johnson being through then tripped. Martins was very poor and just not involved, but how can you when the midfield is bypassed again and again? Shola flick-ons are unpredictable, and that's an understatement and even though he scored, our general teamplay suffers with him on the pitch. -
Odds on Martins getting to 50 before Shola does?

We will win. Believe. -
Tooj won't like that.

I'm still not sure about Gutierrez starting on the right wing when he just seems more effective cutting in from the left. Apart from his hair-style, his game - the way he cuts in and eludes players - reminds me a lot of Pires. And if he starts on the left, Duff's playing. If we could get a new left winger, that'd be fantastic, so that we can still continue overloading one side of the pitch. Jonas does good tracking-back on the right hand side and he's got the stamina and pace to cover his ground if we lose the ball while he's out of position.

It was planned to accommodate a right-sided midfielder, but not Milner specifically (iirc). They started Reo-Coker on the right wing to start the season with Petrov and Barry in the midfield. They sold Maloney which seems a bit dodgy considering they still don't have an adequate back-up for Milner (!), and Maloney was versatile enough that he could often switch wings with Young as well.

Pretty sure Owen had a grin in on as he passed Shola when he replaced him. Yeah, was chuffed for Ameobi getting that reception last night. Massive difference to the one he got when he came off against Hull a couple of months ago! Because he was walking off when we were 2-0 down, the lazy cunt! Anyway, I liked the fact that we overloaded the left wing with Jonas and Duff. It'll be dangerous when we play a good counter-attacking team, but Villa just couldn't handle Enrique, Duff and Jonas on the same wing at the same time. Our 3 players have good technique which meant we dominated play on our left wing. Fulham have got Aaron Hughes playing RB so we should employ the same tactic. -
There is still time on Milner's side but Villa fans are going to have to be very patient with him. If he can improve his crossing and set-pieces, then there's no reason why he won't fit into their team.

Did well but his movement around the penalty area is woeful. He just doesn't seem to have the instincts of a striker.
-
He could smoke a few joints and wouldn't look more relaxed on the pitch. The boy's really calm and it's reassuring to have someone like that playing for you.

They didn't show up though, so it's understandable that their fans would be focusing on why and what exactly happened that lead to the nondescript performance from most of their players. And even though we won and controlled the game, we didn't exactly play them off the park. -
Fulham have a great home record (won 3 of 5) so this will not be a gimmie. They, however, only scored 6 goals in 5 games at home. The first goal will be vital (as ever) because they haven't lost at home when they scored first. I'd like to see the same team that played tonight with Owen playing instead of Shola. I also think we'll win 2-0

What annoys you at a Newcastle match, and other weird things...

Abusing one of our own. That's the only gripe I've had whenever I've been fortunate enough to get tickets for a match. There are always a couple of people who will start abusing the players 5 minutes in and don't even bother waiting for the game to settle/support the players. -
Indeed he is. If he can return to being Roeder's Shola, then we can start speaking about a really, really, short contract.
