I though Brad Inman was from Adelaide.. yes but is eligiable to play for Scotland and has decided to play for them, could be good for us, if he fulfils his potential and gets in the first team and onto international level i'd prefer him headin up to Scotland rather than flying to the otherside of the world!
  3. Good in theory but due to our financial problems we need need money in to re-invest in the squad/team, plus what do we with him in a years time if we don't get promotion next season. People need to start getting their heads round the fact that we need to get rid of players, something that is going to be very very hard, we have a squad of underachievers on big money and long contract and we already have the likes of Duff and Jose saying they want to stop, all very well them saying that when they know fine well that we can't afford to keep them and them saying they want to stay means that when we do sell they are still in line for their "loyalty" bonus! Yes we need to get rid of players, but it's the jaded old farts on high wages who need to go, not the young players on the up. You mentioned two players there, I would keep Enrique and sell Duff. That move alone would mean Enrique was virtually playing for free. We are in a catch 22 though, as well as getting rid of the jaded old farts as you put it we also need to raise funds in order to replace those old farts and build up a squad strong enough to cope with the championship, which unfortunately brings us back to the likes of Jose as he is one of the few players who we can get off the wage bill and get a transfer fee at the same time. If it came to losing one from Bassong, Taylor or Enrique then i would be selling Jose.

Ranger could well be facing Brad Inman when England play Scotland in the next game.

  6. With his injury record could be a gamble, providing we keep Beye, Bassong and Taylor and re-sign Edgar i wouldn't spend money on the defence, my back 4 would be Beye, Taylor, Bassong and Kadar. I would use our youngsters like Edgar, Tozer, Tavernier, Morris, Lough and Ferguson as back up. Any money available for strengthening the team would be on a new midfield and a goalscorer to play alongside Carroll.
  7. If we were to keep Beye, Bassong and Taylor and keep them fit then that would give us a fantastic base to rebuild our new side. Get a quick striker to play up front with Carroll and then a couple of central midfielders who are mobile and can pass the ball and we could start to look forward to a good season.

    U23s & Academy

He could still turn out ok, still young enough but in my opinion he needs to improve his all round play cos he's got the pace and power. Campbell Bell? never seen him play, apart from the youth cup games i don't really watch the academy, just go to the reserves to get out the house on a Monday night when my other half hogs the tv watching Emmerdale, Corrie and Eastenders!!
  9. Can't see anyone paying more than £7m as an absolute maximum. If we get £7-8m for Martins i'd be delighted.
  10. We should look to snap up Matty Derbyshire, been playing well on loan at Olympiakos and apparently there's talk of a £3m transfer fee. Think he's score plenty in the championship. Surely we could afford that or maybe Big Sam will want barton or Smith again!!

    U23s & Academy

You really are obsessed. Binnsy what status would you give him in the squad would he be ready for first team football? Vukcic does look like he can be a top top player and the bonus for NUFC is that he is the type of creative midfielder that we have been crying out for for years, only problem is that he is still only 16 and that is why its silly for people on here picking teams with Haris as some kind of saviour. I would like to see him on the edges of the first team, blood him gently, i'd expect him to feature in the pre seasons games but would expect his debut to come in the carling cup. Unlike most of the youngsters that have come through our academy Vukcic is a big lad so hopefully he'll be able to cope with physical side of the game. For all we are reading about his recent excellent displays in thr tournament in Bosnia, youth games and reserve level is a huge jump to premier league, not sure how big the gap is to the Championship but it will still be big but the thing i like most about the way he plays is he plays everything one or two touch and once he does pass moves for a return, think of the way Iniesta and Xavi play and you'll get the picture, not that i'm saying he's in there league mind cos he's not but thats his style of play. While i'm on i may as well give you my verdict on some of the others youngsters who are getting talked about on here... Tamas Kadar Classy defender, i've no doubt that he'd have been in the first team had he not broke his leg and that would've been regardless of injuries to Enrique, he has had an injury prone time of it though lately, missed the early part of the season after an injury picked up last summer playing for Hungary. Fully expect him to be playing more first team games than reserve games next season. James Tavernier Currently my dads favourite player, seems to have got better and better as the season went on, an attacking right back in the mould of Beye, seems to have endless energy, bombing up and down the wing, still got a bit to learn on his defensive side but he's certainly one to watch and another who'd i expect to be on the fringes of the first team next season. Shane Ferguson Northern Irish left back who like Tavernier has improved as the season went on, made his first couple of reserve appearance as a winger but then around xmas was converted to a left back, his end of season form as seen him called up to both the Northern Ireland B squad and currently in the Under 21 squad. Small, nimble player, again one to watch but think he's still a bit off the first team and would expect another season in the reserves rather than seeing him featur in the first team. Bradden Inman I haven't seen as much of Inman as i would've liked, very highly rated, looked tremendous in the youth cup games i saw, hasn't featured that much at reserve level with having the likes of Donninger and Donaldson playing in his position, did score 4 goals in his 22 academy appearances, excellent passer and plays in a kind of Carrick role, not sure of his defensive abilites as not seen enough of him. Now that Donninger has been released he will be a regular in next seasons reserve team but again like Tavernier it maybe another 12 months before he makes the breakthrough into the first team. Ryan Donaldson I find this lad a bit of an enigma, broke into the reserve team a couple of years when he was still at school, started as a striker but rarely scored at reserve level and this season dropped into midfield and has even featured in a couple of academy games as a centre half, not sure he'll make it into the first team though. Kazenga Lua Lua Massive season coming up for Kaz, very talented, skillful player with a good shot, depending on who goes and who is signed he must be thinking that he has a chance to nail down a first team spot on the right wing. If he keeps things simple he could be a player, if he overdoes it then he'll be back in the reserves. Danquah & Baheng I'll put these 2 together, both of quick, skillful and infuriating, they're the opposite of Vukcic, whereas Vukcic plays eveything 1 or 2 touch, these 2 think that when they get it they need to pirouette and do 3 step overs, they run with it when they should pass and pass it when they should run! I thought Danquah was a lost cause as couldn't see him as a forward or wide player but then played a couple of games as a centre midfielder and looked the part, capping it with a 30 yard screamer against Man U. Baheng is a powerful player but don't think his touch and control is good enough, missed the majority of the season following his knee injury sustained in last seasons Northumberland senior cup final. He scored a couple of goals but missed plenty of chances, would think Danquah would possibly be more likely to make a first team appearance but i wouldn't pick either of them at the minute. As for some of the others to look out for, in defence there's Tozer, Callum Morris and Darren Lough, Tozer hasn't featured much this season due to injury so can't really comment, Morris has played for Eire's under 21's and Lough is a local lad who can play left back or centre half, not the quickest but a strong defender who has played well this season. I'll not bother mentioning the likes of Carroll, Edgar, Ranger or the goal keepers, as they've been covered elsewhere on the forum but while i wouldn't fancy our chances if we were going into a championship season relying on those players they can play a part next season. One of the biggest problems we could have though is relegation as meant we are no longer in the reserve league and that could hamper the development of the youngsters, instead of pitting there wits against the top youngsters from the likes of Liverpool and man utd we are playing the reserve teams of Doncaster, Hartlepool etc
  12. Problem with that for me is that its too similar to the s**** we've watched all season long. Yep, fair enough it means some continuity, but i think we need at least 4 changes to that team to freshen things up and have a team that wants to win. Aye, exactly. Was just picking 11 from that squad. The front six in particular needs freshening up. Can't see how we can afford to keep Duff and Jonas will not want to play in th championship when there's a world cup round the corner, plus he's one of the few players who we can actually get some money in for as well as getting off the wage bill, similar story with Enrique, ideally like to keep him but we could get some decent money back and again wipe another couple of million off the wage bill. Think one of the keys for the manager is to get some decent loan signings in, raid the big 4 and teams like Man City and Villa who have strong reserve sides.
  13. Parma went bankrupt and have only just won promotion back to serie A, can't see them having millions of cash to splash tho, Fiorentina could be a decent shout but i think he's off to Fenerbache.
  14. 25k per week??? Thought we were slashing the wage bill, can't see how we can afford to pay that, the likes of Van Persie at Arsenal are on that type of wage(granted he's about to get a whopping rise) and we are now in the championship! We'd be better off saying we'll double your salary now and when we get promoted we will double it again.

    Nile Ranger

Young Nile made his first start for England U19's today and scored in a 2-0 win.
  16. If i was Shearer, multi millionaire and love the club i would be offering to take the job for free, providing they back me and say i'll take a bonus and when i take us up and the club is back in the premier league you can pay me then. I would also be saying the same thing if i was in Stevie Taylor's shoes, i'd go to the club and say you can keep my salary for the season, i'll take my bonus's(might haggle for a better bonus mind!).
  17. Apparently we have a game lined up against Scunthorpe but after they won promotion there manager said that it would probably be off now! We're bound to play Hartlepool away as one of the first pre season games, that seems to happen every year!
  18. What do you think of Kadar binnsy? He's good, was playing really well and on the verge of breaking into the team when he broke his leg against the mackems, that was probably the best game i'd seen him play as well, his injury was sustained in making a brilliant last minute block tackle to win us the match. He's very composed on the ball, seems pacey enough without being electric.
  19. the 3 lads that have played left back for the reserves/youth team are Kadar, Lough and ferguson. Tozer is a centre half.
  20. i agree although would have to be very selective on the type of foreign imports that we sign as they'd need to be able to battle, we need Abdou Faye types rather than Colocinnis, if we went down the defender route for example.

    Pay cuts

They've plucked a few figures out the sky in that article, Bassong is not on £30k a week, Nolan won't be on £50k and can't believe for a minute that Xisco will be on anywhere near £50k a week. Guthrie won't be on £40k and can't see us paying Gonzalez £50k a week when he's only here on loan, cos there's no way he'd be on that much at Valencia.
  22. Our bid to win next seasons FA youth cup could be scuppered by our youth cup side being the first team!! Actually being serious, our relegation is a disaster for the development of the good youngsters that we have, the likes of Nile, Inman, Vukcic, Tavernier, Spear, Ferguson etc, no PL means no premier reserve league and no chance to test themselves against the good youth players from the likes of Man U, Liverpool, Man City etc instead going to be up against Hartlepool, Barnsley etc. Sending them on loan would've been ideal but we won't have a big enough squad to do it.
  23. happy that trips to Sheff wed and Forest are back, both are 2 cracking away days, plus Nottingham is a good night out. My worry is the midweek games, it'll be just our luck that the decent away trips will end up midweek games.

    Pay cuts

If a player is under contract and doesn't want to leave then it'll be very difficult to shift them, look at Duff, already come out and said he wants to stay, he's on something stupid like 70k per week, we can't afford that in the championship. How many teams are going to come in and pay say £5m and give him anywhere near what we're paying him. As he hasn't asked for a transfer, he'll also be able to claim a "loyalty" bonus from us when he leaves, the type of bonus that almost scuppered the Barton transfer until we paid it! Shifting the high earners on long contracts is going to be the hardest thing for the club this summer and could make bringing players in difficult as a result, bearing in mind we are about to have our shortest pre season in years we could be in trouble. We may even have to resort to paying up contracts like West ham did with Ljungberg, they paid him £3m last summer to leave the club!!
