  1. As an outsider looking in, I think Ashley is doing an excellent job. Maybe he isn't spending a fortune on individual players but at the moment you don't need to. You've got a scout envied by the rest of the PL identifying quality players before they become household names (and expensive). Admittedly, Cisse, for example, wasn't a small fee but there's no need to pay £20m for a player when Carr can find the likes of Tiote and Cabaye for a fraction of the cost. It seems to me that whenever Pardew identifies a need Carr finds the player and Ashley comes up with the money. There's a few PL teams that would appreciate that scenario.
  2. Was quite widely reported at the time of the Anita transfer. We tried to take them both, but Van der Wiel didn't want to come. http://www.vi.nl/nieuws/225575/Van-der-Wiel-ziet-transfer-naar-Newcastle-niet-zitten.htm http://www.telegraaf.nl/telesport/voetbal/ajax/12744673/__V_d_Wiel_wilde_niet_naar_Newcastle__.html
  3. Not at all. Lille is asking for a price that we don't think he's worth. It's pretty simple. It sucks, but it's cut and dry. So why not go for another RB? Surely there were back-up options. Van der Wiel turned us down.
  4. Would be a perfect player for 4-3-3 IMO. Spot on. Aye, was brilliant at the Euros on the left of a front 3 wasn't he? By the same logic, you could say that RvP is s*** in the middle of a front 3 too. You could, but then I could point to loads of factual evidence suggesting otherwise. Afellay was never really a winger, more a Sneijder lite.
  5. Would be a perfect player for 4-3-3 IMO. Spot on. Aye, was brilliant at the Euros on the left of a front 3 wasn't he? Everyone in that Dutch team was crap tbf. (Or rather underperformed). He was definitely one of the main reasons for our disastrous campaign. Best mates with Van Persie who convinced Van Marwijk he should play despite being completely unfit after not having played competitively for almost the full season.

  7. Would be a perfect player for 4-3-3 IMO. Not really. Played his best games for PSV as a central attacking midfield player behind the striker(s). He's not your typical winger if that's what you're suggesting.
  8. Don't think we need him by the way, as much as he would be something of a coup.
  9. Someone start a new thread already..

Centre back has been a position where we are light in terms of numbers and quality for well over a season now. If the opportunity presents itself to bring in one of the best centre backs in the Eredivisie for the past few seasons for a relatively modest fee I really fail to see why so many people are complaining. Is this really about the possibility of Steven Taylor losing his guaranteed first team place at the hands of a potentially better and more reliable centre back? The same Steven Taylor who has flattered to deceive for most of his time here until he was paired with Colo (who manages to make Williamson a more than capable Premiership defender) and has averaged under 20 games a season for the past three years?
  12. I'm still baffled why so many people keep insisting we played 4-4-2 last Saturday. There was loads of movement from the likes of Ben Arfa (freedom to roam all over the pitch) and Ba (dropping into midfield, running the channels), and Jonas played much more centrally than a wide midfielder in a 4-4-2 would.

  14. Hope it stays that way. Could do with Arsenal dropping more points.
  15. My strikers (Papiss and Holt) haven't exactly repaid my faith in them so far..
