Newcastle United midfielder Emre has denied a Football Association charge of using racially-aggravated and/or insulting words against Everton last month. The Turkey international has been brought to task over an alleged incident which took place in the Premiership clash on 30th December. It is claimed Emre made racist comments, with Everton's Tim Howard, Joleon Lescott and Joseph Yobo all reacting furiously towards the player after Newcastle were awarded a penalty in the 3-0 defeat at Goodison Park. Emre has always maintained his innocence since the allegations were made and has now requested a personal hearing. Referee Dermot Gallagher did not hear the alleged comments and The FA called on Everton to provide further details about the offence. The FA's official website issued a brief statement to confirm that Emre has denied the charge. "Newcastle United's Belozoglu Emre has denied a charge of using racially-aggravated abusive and/or insulting words and has requested a personal hearing." He said Vs. He said, He said, and blah blah blah... Probably the most confusing allegation so far this year. Should become a debacle soon enough. I don't think he did it, but who knows.

If it's down to Shepherd then Roeder should grow some balls and do something about it, at least Souness had the courage to turn the screw on Shepherd, the result was something like £30 million misspent.

Nobody is forcing Roeder to do the "within 48 hours", "pole position" speeches. I'd be happier hearing nothing from him if the alternative is desperate half-truths designed to appease. For Roeder, a simple no comment or 'we are doing our best and you will be the first to hear if we make any progress' might suffice. That's just as bad! The wages have been higly inflated in the media. His salary is actually only 51m over 5 years, with the rest coming from endorsements. I, myself, wouldn't call it a waste, because now I get to spend the equivalent of 20 quid to see him play. On the other hand, it would have cost me upwards of 1000$ to fly over-seas and watch him in the EPL. It'll be good for the game over here, but you obviously don't care about that. :winking:
