  1. Enjoyable watch so far, daft errors aside. Seems we've made a tactical choice to avoid the wings as it's easy to double-up, and leads to that dreary horseshoeing around the box, and instead play quickly through the middle as much as possible. It's led to some cheap exchanges in possession but also our best moments. Not really one for the wingers so far; hopefully they get a bit more space as the game opens up.
  2. Yeah, we're quite deliberately playing quick first time passes through the centre, which is leading to a few unforced errors, but they basically can't hope with us.
  3. Players need to pick if they're short sleevers or long sleevers imo.
  4. I know these games can often be ugly and attritional but I'm expecting a decent performance tonight. It's in no way a scratch team that's been thrown together; there's familiarity and sharpness in all areas of the pitch, apart from probably goalkeeper. Bradford will pack the defence, you'd expect, so I'm not picturing a glut of goals, but hope we play well and give the crowd a better spectacle than the Wimbledon game for instance. It's a big deal that we make a proper defence of our first title in eons so hoping for a good performance.

  7. We were just brilliant that year. So many incredible performances. Those 20 minutes against Spurs ffs.

I think £30m in the bank for Osula, and Wilson on buttons as third choice would've been areet tbh.
  9. @leffe186 What a scamp! I guess I'd be lying if I said my opinion of the competition hadn't changed a bit, but in fairness we spent the best past of 14 years being nothing more than observers.
  10. Crikey. Some memory to dig that up, fair play! Not sure I'm seeing where the 'gotcha' is though; it was three years ago for a start.
  11. Aye, that's a stupid change. Always scope for the vagaries of the modern game to eat away at the things we hold dear!
  12. Absolutely; I'd love to see us retain it. It basically never happens unless you're Man City. It's also a great competition in its own right these days. Where the FA Cup has lost a lot of its prestige, I think the League Cup has quietly gained some gravitas. It's like the FA Cup has more characteristics which can be undermined by the modern game (canning replays, semis at Wembley, the final no longer being such a main event, the increasing apathy for a once great institution)... the League Cup continuously justifies its existence as a cracking all-night-game competition, without the same pressure.

  14. Yeah, "much poorer" is Twitter talk; not that we've been exceptional at any point. I definitely think it's gonna take time before we settle into a rhythm this season, though. We've lost Isak and our plug-in-and-play replacement; that's a fucking nightmare for us frankly. I think there'll be plenty ups and downs this season.
  15. Good to see the Bantams doing well. League 2 is too low for a club, fanbase and city of that size and they were there for ages. Not sure what's changed to have them flying high in League One but good to see. Hope we ring their necks, obviously.
  16. The more I think about today the more I think that was a really decent showing. I know we looked about as threatening as your nan in a brawl but I thought we showed an impressive amount of control for at least an hour. We got away with one with that Brooks non-goal (unreal shout from the lino, mind; to hell with lines on a screen), but after that we were very composed and very solid. That was a heck of a contest against Barca and we made a lot of changes. Feels good to have come through a notoriously hideous fixture for us with a deserved point and clean sheet.
