Really good game, could go either way. No real bonnet bees regarding the lineup from Yours Truly the Southgate fan club. He's playing the lineup that's got him results in the past. I get the Phillips disdain to some extent but I'm yet to read a compelling argument that suggests he's not the best suited midfield accompaniment for Rice.
  3. Just for clarity (lol), it's only the report from talkSPORT which claim Tonali says he hasn't bet on football, according to NUFC sources. The agent comments were only with regards to him having a gambling addiction.
  4. If that's true about Fagioli, and given Tonali's agent's comments, it is looking a bit ominous. Hopefully not, like. Christ knows what to think or believe with all this.
  5. So Tonali himself is insisting he didn't bet on football, according to this. No idea what to believe at this point really, just so much speculation. If he hasn't been betting on football then how could there be any recourse from any footballing authority?
  6. I agree re the style of work but I wouldn't be so certain that there'd be zero appeal to him. I've no idea if he shares the same patriotic ideals as the likes of Southgate but, regardless, winning a tournament with England would surely be one of the greatest achievements possible for any English manager. Therefore it's a tempting opportunity for anyone worth their salt. I'd have confidence that he'd turn them down should they come knocking, but I don't think it's a given.
  7. Gary Neville on the next series of Dragons' Den.
  8. Wouldn't trust a word Graeme Bailey says but that's no scoop; Howe's literally the best English manager so he'll obviously be on the FA's shortlist. Hopefully he doesn't fancy the job but he'd naturally be tempted; he's only in his 40s so the job will still be there for him in the future if he carries on his current trajectory.
  9. I wasn't comparing the offences, rather the impact of players' actions on the team/club.
  10. Gutting to have such a negative story associated with the squad, after having felt like we've not experienced such a thing for ages. Joelinton's drink driving issue was potentially very minor compared to this. All the more frustrating that it's centring around someone who's only been here five minutes. The offence is completely unrelated to NUFC but we're absorbing the impact. Very annoying. Given this, his fairly dismal start on the pitch, and his apparent absence of anything remotely endearing, I'm starting to wish we'd spent that money differently. If it transpires that he has nothing serious to answer for then great; I'll gladly re-take the sympathetic position around footballers and gambling. But if the accusations of illegality and betting on his own team are true then there's no excusing the stupidity.
  11. Gateshead travelling to Yeovil in R2. Great chance to progress again. My two local sides - York and Scarborough - travelling to Chester and hosting Forest Green... should they make it through their respective replays. So chances there as well. Bloody York couldn't score at home to Needham Market ffs.

Christ knows why he's still playing Henderson, good Lord what's the point?
  15. This has always been my instinctive thought whenever these gambling offence stories have landed; whoever it may be is just the latest to be rumbled. It'll be absolutely rife; hundreds and hundreds of footballers will be at it - whether it's due to ignorance about the rules, a lack of care, a lack of education, or outright stupidity... it'll be a widespread issue and the likes of Toney are just the 'unlucky' ones getting caught out. I'm not excusing Sandro if it turns out he's broken football rules and is therefore in receipt of a punishment which affects the club, but if we're talking Toney/Toffolo-like offences, I find it hard to feel any anger towards him.

    Dan Burn

Great stuff. I fucking love him; he's a brilliantly positive symbol of what we are these days. We're not a Saudi toy, we're Newcastle United, and Dan Burn is as Newcastle United as it gets.

class, I'm famished. Do make sure mine comes with a dollop of whipped cream.
  19. I would love to know how that decision was arrived at, mind. Anfield itself has had significant redevelopment and I assume is more than fit for purpose to host such an occasion, and clearly has far more gravitas than Everton's uncompleted digs.
