  1. 98th minute winner for York! Absolute Vanadrama
  2. such bollocks man, just total rubbish. Even if it was true, which it isn't by a long shot, it completely ignores the context. Literally the only argument you can make in favour of that position is that ASM existed when Bruce was manager, which of course he had nothing to do with. There was the odd bit of backs to the wall stuff under Rafa but the team was drilled properly and had tactical definition. We won the Championship scoring 100 goals in the process and there was some really nice stuff in the two second halves of each respective PL season. There was a sign of a team making progress on the pitch, despite everything. Meanwhile under Bruce we were on a downward curve from the word go which was seriously accelerating by the time he left. It's hilarious how Bruce, or anyone defending him, will point to his apparent achievements re keeping us up when it took an Eddie Howe miracle to prevent us from a Bruce-manufactured relegation. It's amusing also that Jordan would say we only preferred Rafa cos he challenged Ashley. Er, yeah - that was a big part of it, aye. Bravo on not understanding the context if you're using that as a defence of Bruce.

    Dan Burn

I love Burn, like. I don't really agree with the 'CB playing at LB' assessment any more. What's the role of a full-back? To defend the wide areas and then to support the attack by providing an option on the deck; to do overlapping and inside runs; to make through balls; to get to the byline and to make crosses. He does these things, just with much less emphasis on crossing. His passing ability is sometimes left wanting because it isn't his strength. He's definitely a full-back though, just not a complete footballer. He could play that position for most teams in the league. The fact he has fully transitioned there is actually a problem for us though. If the Brighton game is anything to go by then he is categorically not at the standard we need our third choice CB to be.
  4. Minstermen beating Martin Tyler's lads atm on TNT if you're at a loose end.
  5. I don't think the club is defined by its owners at the moment, no. It was when Ashley was here; it was every bit a reflection of him. As I see it, our current owners have just unshackled us from that and allowed us to re-enter the football world.
  6. It wasn't a strategic or deliberate action; I just took satisfaction in seeing Sports Direct FC losing. NUFC didn't exist.
  7. Liverpool had me shivering, rocking back and forth and wishing the takeover had never happened, like.
  8. Mint second goal; proper aggressive header.
  9. Think Hope asked something earlier in the presser too, so there was no cutting him out.
  10. I can really sympathise with this and have had a couple of spells where I've felt a particular lack of 'the feeling.' If you're searching to reclaim it, my advice is to try and not overthink stuff, and only look at the football itself. There's so much about the game at the top level these days which makes it hateful - the finances, the governance, the mainstream media, social media, content culture - but ultimately those things are adjacent to the sport itself. If you can train yourself to isolate it then it might help. There's no expectation of you to be conscious of the circus around it, you deserve to just follow your team. But also don't overthink how you feel. I had the same thing at one point last season; hating that I wasn't feeling a certain way - but then I just accepted it and got my head around the fact that I'm older than I was and I'll probably never fully get the childlike emotion again. After I accepted that, I wasn't putting pressure on myself to feel a certain way, and hey presto, suddenly I was biting my nails and on the ceiling when we scored again. Hope that doesn't come across preachy, just sharing my experiences really!
  11. Palace 1-1 Fulham Luton 1-0 Wolves Man City 4-1 Forest Brentford 2-1 Everton Burnley 1-2 Man United Arsenal 2-2 Spurs Brighton 1-1 Bournemouth Chelsea 2-1 Villa Liverpool 3-1 West Ham Sheff United 1-1 Newcastle
  12. As we all do. Would you consider doing it a bit less? We've had well over 100 posts from you since KO on Tuesday, most of it repetitive.
  13. What a brilliantly worked third goal by AEK.
  14. Hammers and Seagulls both level.
  15. The way that Brighton shirt is stitched is so bad. I swear the million other clubs with the template don't have the same issue?
  16. I don't think that will be any of our concern this year; it'll be a grueling season and while I think we'll probably visit the European places, I can't see us being in the CL race.* Five from England would be grim anyway imo; as if the Premier League needs any more of a leg-up among its European peers. *Incidentally I don't regard this as an especially pessimistic take.
  17. I've no major dislike for Villa but happy to see them lose. Don't want an English club to win the Conference League again.
  18. Zrinjski 4-3 up after being 3-0 down.
  19. I've definitely got a soft spot for white shorts; they're synonymous with two or three great games and with certain shirts they just look great. I liked it last night too but the back of the shirt was a shame; don't see why it had to be totally white from the collar down, like some of the hideous Puma efforts. No reason why it couldn't just be in a patch snug to the names/number, a la 02/03.
  20. Interesting observation. will keep an eye out for that.
  21. Yeah definitely; it was the same against Brighton. This appears to be a new problem too, not something that happened much last season that I recall. I don't know if it's midfield shape or CBs being deeper, or what. However, two clean sheets on the bounce indicates some solidity. Probably not sustainable though given this tactical issue.
  22. I don't think there's anything controversial about that at all. What I take issue with is people saying we were really poor or awful or shite or anything like that, cos we simply weren't. Compared to 6-1 vs Spurs maybe, aye. Compared to games in the not distant past where we were actually really poor, definitely not.
  23. not to mention he probably wouldn't have even been available, for one reason or another. That, of course, being the most compelling reason to swap him for another option.
