  1. Serbian television RTS upstaged their British counterparts ITV in the ‘broadcasting cock-up’ stakes the other day by claiming that goalkeeper Robert Enke, who tragically took his own life in November of last year, wouldn’t be featuring for Germany at the World Cup because he was ‘injured’. Summing up the team selections before the Germany vs Australia game on Sunday, Serbian commentator Vladimir Mijaljevic said; “Manuel Neuer is in goal for Germany because Robert Enke cannot play. He is injured.”
  2. Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn flew to Germany yesterday in a bid to conclude a deal for Schalke defender Heiko Westermann. Sportsmail exclusively revealed Sunderland's interest and Quinn hopes talks will be successful enough to tempt the 26-year-old to the Stadium of Light in a £6m transfer. Sunderland, who have finalised the £3m signing of Belgium U21 international keeper Simon Mignolet from Sint Truidense, are also among clubs watching Ivory Coast striker Gervinho at the World Cup. Birmingham scouts also watched the 23-year-old Lille striker against Portugal. He is rated at around £7million but has a good goalscoring record and can play right wing, striker and attacking midfield. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1287482/Sunderland-tie-6m-deal-Schalke-defender-Heiko-Westermann.html?ITO=1490#ixzz0r9oUbcxW
  3. Colo and Jonas to play a blinder again like their last debuts at Old Trafford? Well hopefully!

    Sol Campbell

I`m sure that`s exactly what he was thinking too

    Sol Campbell

Sol Campbell has criticised Fabio Capello for taking 'half-fit' players to South Africa instead of him. "Surely you pick people in the groove and I was," Campbell said. "Instead Capello picked a couple of half-fit players. "I can understand if Capello was thinking 'This guy is for England's past' but then he went for a couple of players who had retired from international football. "Not only that, Capello has gone for one centre-half [Jamie Carragher] who didn't have a very good season and another [Matthew Upson] who just missed out on relegation. It's crazy. "I was really hurt to be overlooked. Don't you think I should be in? I do. For sure." http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jun/17/sol-campbell-fabio-capello-england
  6. agreed....he's always been a super slow player but as most will have seen from watching him...many players could still not get anywhere near him or get the ball off him. He struggled to really settle in Spain with Villareal so I don't think here will be any easier.....good to see a player of his calibre here though if he comes.... He was incredible for Villareal from what I remember. Set up a million goals for Forlan. yes he was fantastic on the field but never really settled there off the field from what I read....he was always longing to go to back to Boca....which is why I am a bit surprised is leaving them especially if it is to come here.
  7. Well so far, Lodeiro got himself sent off, Modise had a shocker and Pastore couldn't get on the pitch. Hoping Pastore gets a chance now that Veron is ruled out of the S.Korea match......but from what I've read Maxi might be taking his place.

  9. Quote from the BBC: "The horns, which first appeared at sporting events in the early 1990s, have been found to be louder than a drum and a chainsaw when played close to the ear." Have you ever played a drum and a chainsaw close to your ear?
  10. He's forgotten his pills, poor old man is getting delusions of grandeour again. his blogs before were not too bad but lately especially he seems to have gone a bit senile.....
  11. Hitzfeld for the Toon!!! Great win for the Swiss.
  12. Leeds signed Argentine defender Federico Bessone
  13. nice performance overall by North Korea..........especially as only 4 of their players play professional football .....the rest are amateur players and they managed to hold Brazil for a good portion of the game and then score against them..
  14. I actually wouldnt mind Jong Tae-se here. Would it actually be possible to get awork permit though? Think it's only possible for countries 70 and up on the FIFA ranking? Could be he have a Japanese passport as well, though, in which case it should be possible. he doesn't have a Japanese passport. The Japanese government very rarely allows Koreans (if at all) to hold Japanese passports .....only permanent residence visas. I have been living in Japan previously and this is what I was told by the Koreans living there. Actually they rarely give passports to any non Japanese. Even if he did have a Japanese passport it would make no difference. He hasn't appeared for the Japanese national team has he in 70% of their games.
  15. Besiktas signed Ricardo Quaresma
  16. Aye i'd be up for that. Shame the powers that be won't be. Probably wouldn't cost overly much either. N.Korea are ranked 105 at the moment and apparently teams have to be within the top 70 to qualify for a work permit for any potential players. Who knows, maybe the Norks will have a stormer and his country will shoot up the rankings . Btw, he plays in the J-league and is a pretty important player for them. In recent years the J-league has sold some pretty good players to Europe like Hulk being the obvious one. He wasn`t exactly that cheap at 6m euros. btw according to this he underwent a trial with one of the Prem league clubs...don`t know which one http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/may/30/jong-tae-se-north-korea-wayne-rooney
  17. Newcastle United are considering a move for Celtic's Greece striker Georgios Samaras, who is expected to be released by new manager Neil Lennon this summer. (Daily Record)
  18. World Cup 2010: Brazil star Melo names his son Lineker Brazil's Felipe Melo has revealed he named his son after former England star and BBC presenter Gary Lineker. "I gave that name to my son because I find it very beautiful, different... and an honour," Melo revealed. "He was a great player, a big name in the national team of England and in the history of the English national team." The 26-year-old Juventus midfielder is expected to be named in Brazil's side to take on North Korea on Tuesday in their opening match of the World Cup. He added: "For me it's an honour to play under the gaze of so many great players of world football - Pele, Maradona, Lineker and other great players." Melo, who will be winning his 19th cap for Brazil on Tuesday, has been compared to manager Dunga following his impressive displays in the holding midfield role. "We have similar characteristics and that's important," Melo said. "Every team needs a player with a strong character to help out when a team-mate is in need. "We have similar style, always working hard to steal a ball here and there. I never like to lose a challenge and he was like that too. "Dunga dominated his position. I'm trying to learn from his experience and the tips he is always giving me. He has already won everything - I haven't."
  19. BBC Gossip column The Hammers hope to acquire Argentine playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme, who is out of contract at Boca Juniors and is considering offers from the east Londoners and a raft of other European and South American sides. Full story: Daily Mail Sunderland are interested in signing Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha and are close to sealing a £3.5m deal for the 23-year-old. Full story: Daily Mail
  20. Had a look at the Italian squad last night, every single one plays in Italy but not one player from Inter in the squad - that's got to be some sort of record. Inter prefer to sign South Americans.....well Argies in particular over the years.
  21. Wor Jonas in there too
  22. Tulio wasn`t too bad eh....where was Etoo? Good to see 2 Asian teams win as the so called underdogs.
  23. everybody is taking the piss out of him....now just watch Tulio have a stormer
