  1. anyone had this happen to them? Late goals to blame for car crashes Almost half a million car crashes are the result of drivers losing control after late goals, according to new research. Insurance company More Than says research suggests football fans lose control at the wheel when they hear their team score, a problem termed Final Score Syndrome. "With the Premier League coming to a thrilling conclusion a lot of fans will either be suffering joy or despair this weekend," said Pete Markey, from More Than. "Sunday in particular could prove a peak day for Final Score Syndrome. "We urge fans to keep calm, keep your eyes on the road, hands on the wheel and remember, there's always next season." Chelsea fans are the worst sufferers of Final Score Syndrome, according to More Than. http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/world-of-sport/article/8/
  2. looks like the papers don`t know which AZ player we want unsurprisingly (if any).....now linked with Simon Poulsen http://www.clicklancashire.com/sport/wigan-athletic-fc/126860-newcastle-united-to-battle-wigan-athletic-for-danish-winger.html? Wigan Athletic are reportedly keeping tabs on AZ Alkmaar winger Simon Poulsen. The Daily Mail claims Latics boss Roberto Martinez is keeping tabs on the Dane but is likely to have to battle with Newcastle United for his signature. The paper also claims that Wolves, Sunderland and Fulham are interested and that they, along with the Latics and the Magpies, all sent scouts on Wednesday night to check on Poulsen in action against Celtic. It seems AZ are inviting offers from European clubs for their players as they struggle to clear substantial debts.

  5. Is he a forward? that's quite a poor strike rate for that league if so and it's not like he has made up for it in assists (stats, stats, stats). even if you were top scorer and broke goal records it doesn`t always mean you`ll crack the other leagues anyway (Alfonso Alves , Dirk Kuyt and Marteja Kezman for instance). As for the question, just going by highlights I`ve seen this season he has played both on the wing and up front off of their main forward El Hamdaoui.
  6. agreed. He speaks frankly and I wouldn`t disagree with many of the comments he made about his time here (ie:the shocking way we were/are run etc). At least he walked when he wasn`t up for the job and without a big pay off.... unlike messrs Dalgleish, Roeder, Allardyce, Souness and the "Messiah" Keegan eh?
  7. He took an Inter side at their lowest eb to a UEFA Cup final only to lose on penalties aswell, subsequently the team Hodsgon built their went on to win the league the next season under different management. I remember their team back then consisting of the likes of Pagliuca, Bergomi, Zanetti, Aron Winter, Berti, Zamorano, Ganz, Angloma, Djorkaeff, Ince (I think he bought the latter 3) and one Allesandro Pistone (actually looked canny good then). I don't think the Inter job was as big a job as it is nowadays too, I remember AC Milan and Juventus certainly being bigger jobs, Fiorentina (with Batigol, Rui Costa, Toldo etc) were up there, Parma spending millions at the time, Lazio were up there, then you had Mancini's Sampdoria, Zola's Napoli, Roma ? Well done Fulham

  9. You're not Spanish at all are you? You're some imposter from Birkenhead. Actually I wrote "awesome" first and then realized it sounded too yank and tried to come up with something more British Unrelated but i asked this while game was on and got no response, what do Spanish fans shout when a shot goes close - is it just "Oooooee"? ¡Uuuuuuuuuuuuy! "oooooeee" or "ooooleeee" is when you pass the ball around the players of the other side when you're up, we call that the "rondo" since you are dancing around them. It's actually a common game to play with a football when you're a kid in Spain. Was just the noise i was going off. Does "¡Uuuuuuuuuuuuy!" mean anything or just a noise, as in they didn't do it in the game i went to in South America. aye over in S.America they just go mental when a goal is scored, with the whole crowd running down to the bottom of the stands and leap onto the fences and go mad. The atmosphere in the Premier League is so over rated and certainly not the best in the world that so many are led to believe.

  11. At least Barca were humble enough to accept defeat graciously by turning on the sprinklers to soak celebrating Inter players . . . Ah football . . A game of integrity . .
  12. Hughton: Hands off Toon starlet Haris Vuckic NEWCASTLE UNITED boss Chris Hughton today revealed that wonderkid Haris Vuckic is “going nowhere” to dampen the hopes of Manchester United and Chelsea. Chelsea scout Pop Robson was present at United’s reserve team clash with Rotherham United last night as the Stamford Bridge club stepped up their interest in the young Slovenian. However, with Vuckic contracted until 2011 with United, Hughton sees him as a big part of his future plans at St James’ Park. Vuckic has only made a handful of appearances at first-team level this season, with his campaign also dented by ankle and knee injuries. But his rapid development behind the scenes at the club’s Benton base has left the backroom team delighted and enthusiastic about his future. Hughton told the Chronicle: “To the contrary of what is being read or said at the moment, I can say that Haris is not going anywhere. “Irrespective of anything that has been in the media, I can say now that the reason we have him under the contract he has is for the right reasons. “He’s rated very highly here and he is a big part of the future. “You get used to speculation when talking about good players, but he’s a Newcastle player and will be for a long time. “We’re aware of everything that is going on. “But he is a player who likes it at the club and is well thought of here. “The fact is he’s a good young player who has been injured and he is really enjoying coming back and playing for us again.”
  13. Crisis club Hull are going to ask their players to take a 40 per cent pay-cut in a desperate bid to save money and avoid administration. The Tigers were relegated to the Championship last week and are reportedly £35m in debt. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Exclusive-Crisis-club-Hull-will-ask-players-to-take-a-40-per-cent-pay-cut-in-a-bid-to-avoid-administration-article406771.html

  15. Please let it be Gervinho. Just looking through their squad (Lille), they have a few canny players. Would be happy with any of Gervinho, Cabaye , Hazard and possibly Rio Mavuba (seems to have found his way again after his Villareal spell).
  16. The Geordie Beckenbauer off to Barca? http://www.imscouting.com/global-news-article/Barcelona-in-shock-link-with-Newcastle-defender-Steven-Taylor/7349/
  17. What fall from grace for Celta Vigo. 17th in La Segunda and probably relegated.... They lost yesterday to an 86th minute goal with their keeper running 40 yards up the pitch to lambast and shove his teammate for giving the ball away. On youtube if you type PELEA DEL PORTERO DEL CELTA CON UN DEFENSA DE SU EQUIPO 24-04-2010
  18. wonder who missed out. I see Nile Ranger and Tm Krul got one (of the players who played less regularly).
  19. 1992.... feel damn old now....I remember the days when the players used to be the same age as me Bojan Djordic? I remember him being touted as the next big star but he seemed to have fallen off the map now.
  20. NICKY BUTT: LIFTING TROPHY WITH NEWCASTLE IS HIGHLIGHT OF MY CAREER HE has won the FA Cup, the Champions League and the Premier League but Nicky Butt still regards lifting the Championship trophy with Newcastle as one of the highlights of his career. Butt, 35, used his final programme notes of the season to announce his intention to leave St James’ Park when his contract expires in the summer He is still to decide whether to continue playing or hang up his boots and pursue a coaching career, but he will not be seeking a new deal to help Newcastle attempt to re-establish themselves in the Premier League. His final act at St James’ was to link up with fellow midfielder Alan Smith to hoist the Championship trophy above his head and spark jubilant scenes of celebration among the biggest crowd ever to watch a Championship game – almost 53,000. And while some will view this season’s success as a footnote to a career that has also included 39 international caps and an appearance at a World Cup finals, Butt claims it is one of his greatest achievements in the game. Butt said: “Sir Alex Ferguson once told me when I won my very first medal, you always have to enjoy it. Don’t be embarrassed to enjoy it and celebrate. “Whether it is the Premier League, the Youth Cup or today, I have enjoyed them exactly the same. The highs of winning the league and the Champions League are just the same as this. “You don’t sit there looking at your medal thinking it is not the same as the rest because it is the Championship. You have won it. You are just happy. “The scenes out there could have been the Champions League and you just have to enjoy them.” Veteran midfielder Butt first joined Newcastle in 2004 and has seen countless highs and lows during his six seasons on Tyneside. He said: “This is an amazing club and an amazing city and I am proud to have been involved with it.” http://www.express.co.uk/football/view/171476/Nicky-Butt-Lifting-trophy-with-Newcastle-is-highlight-of-my-career-
  21. Iaquinta with a Ketsbaia esque celebration yesterday Pity Roma lost, getting a bit boring now with Inter winning title after title.
  22. Yes, infact he crossed my mind the other day, think he'd have the attributes to play well In the Prem. We could a lot worse than raiding Getafe for him and Albin. If Villa leaves, Valencia are supposedly looking at him as a replacement. Obviously not in the same class as Villa but not many are these days. Swap for Xisco? aye he had some ridiculous scoring record in Chile (49 goals in 53 apps) before he moved to Europe. Had a pretty slow start with Dortmund but has progressed well. I don't think he is a realistic target though. He plays in front of 66,000 fans week in week out, his team will probably qualify for Europe next season and we're not paying big wages anymore. He's still a Lens player and not out of contract.
  23. Liking the look of Eduardo Salvio of Atletico.....had a very good game yesterday at least.
  24. Really hope Schalke will win it. Knowing their luck I know they won't. aye Schalke have terrible luck. Would not be surprised if the title is decided on goal difference on the last day with Schalke missing out again
