  1. Armin Veh is the new coach http://www.hsv.de/teams/meldungen/bundesliga/mai-2010/armin-veh-wird-trainer-des-hamburger-sv/
  2. He's a character for sure but if he inevitably goes to Real and plays the same type of football he has been doing at Inter and Chelsea, their fans will not like it. Real sacked arguably the most successful club coach in Capello because the game was not pretty and the crowd did not appreciate it. Mourinho wouldn't be any different even if he brings trophies.....well lets see anyway.
  3. they say the same about Martin Jol and Christoph Daum.
  4. Hughton simply the best says Jose Enrique JOSE Enrique ranks Chris Hughton as the best manager he has played under at Newcastle - classing him as a cut above Kevin Keegan, Alan Shearer and the man who brought him to Tyneside Sam Allardyce. Allardyce paid £6.3m to sign Spanish defender Enrique from Villarreal in the summer of 2007, and the 24-year-old has outlasted Big Sam, Keegan, Shearer, Joe Kinnear and caretaker-boss Nigel Pearson at St James’s Park. Enrique’s consistent form made him a key figure in Newcastle’s Championship title-winning campaign last season, as Hughton steered the Magpies back into the Premier League at the first attempt. Enrique rates low-profile coach-turned-manager Hughton as the best boss he has worked under, ahead of those big-names who came and went before, and insists the former Republic of Ireland will prove his worth in the top flight next season. “He said: “Chris Hughton is the best manager I have worked under since I have been here. There have been some very famous names, but it is not always about that. “As a player Alan Shearer was unbelievable here. Of course, he was only here for seven weeks or so and you cannot really decide how good someone is in that short period of time. I cannot say anything against him. No-one really knows what kind of manager Alan Shearer is because he spent just seven weeks with us. “Chris has had one season and has grown into the job. People who say he will not be as good a manager in the Premier League are being unfair. Why not? “The club want him to stay, he is very keen to stay and the players want to work with Chris next season. “Everyone was so happy when he was given the manager’s job on a permanent basis because it was so well deserved and he is the man to take charge of this club in the Premier League.” After Shearer’s seven-game term as interim manager ended with relegation in 2009, Hughton began the new season in the Championship as the club’s caretaker-boss. However, a successful start to the campaign saw him win the Championship Manager of the Month awards in August and September and led to him being given the job on a permanent basis at the end of October. Enrique says the players have responded to Hughton’s management style. He added: “The training with the players is very different with him and I like him because his training sessions are so good. “I cannot believe how hard he works. “He seems to spend 24 hours every day at the club. “He is so dedicated to the job and gives his all. “He is thinking about the games all the time, watches the videos and is so thorough in his preparations. The players respect him so much.” http://www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2010/05/24/hughton-simply-the-best-says-jose-enrique-61634-26506383/?
  5. Yes. Yes please! has he played well for West Brom? Why would they want to get rid?
  6. if he wants a real challenge then yes he should come here
  7. Joe Ledley then? Now that Cardiff are not promoted and he's available out of contract (?)....tbh I haven't seen much of him but he looks a very canny player and can play left back and in midfield. soz if this has been discussed at length already. Haven't waded through this thread for a while.
  8. How much did Inter pay for Diego Milito? At the time I was a bit skeptical because he was 30 already and I think the price was high but it was a bargain whatever price it was......absolutely superb.
  9. http://i50.tinypic.com/zmo57a.jpg
  10. pity Toure hasn't got as many games this season. I think he's better in midfield than Sergi Busquets who I've not been THAT impressed with.
  11. shame aye but he has been involved in many previous squads (like Copa America, Olympics, Confederations Cup) and also the last World Cup so it's not as if he's missed out on any big tournaments in his career when he looks back. He's still fairly young too for a defender and can be involved in future squads.
  12. Yeh Sandro is signed and sealed. Have never seen him play but comes with a lot of hype so we'll see. on another forum, Brazilian fans say he's kind of average.....no better than Lucas Leiva (coming fom Internacional fans) but he has does have some leadership qualities about him.
  13. Player scores free-kick from centre circle & saves team from relegation...goal link is in the article. http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/world-of-sport/article/2340/ A Brazilian footballer has scored an incredible wonder goal, rocketing a 45-yard free kick from inside the centre circle into the top corner to save his side from relegation. Inca, the captain of Paraguayan top-flight side Sol de America, scored the astonishing goal to secure a 2-1 away victory against title-chasing Olimpia - and in so doing stave off the threat of relegation for his club. "The big thing was that my team-mates trusted me to have a go at it," the 36-year-old said. "Above all I want to thank them for letting me have a try. And thanks to God it was a goal!"
  14. Robert Koren linked on a free transfer.....probably just agent talk though
  15. actually he has been very impressive for Siena and since leaving Boro
  16. not too many I am convinced can make the step up.....I was fairly impressed with Nicky Maynard though. I said it already, but there are some good experienced players also in the Dutch and Belgian leagues like Lucas Biglia (Argentine midfielder for Anderlecht) who could definitely do a job. Same for the Argentine league also....many clubs there are having terrible financial problems also and have to sell some of their good players on the cheap. Worth a look.
  17. bbc gossip column......used to manage Inter and Udinese, speaks Italian so maybe not that unbelievable despite it being from The Sun. Juventus are preparing a bid to take Fulham boss Roy Hodgson to Italy as their new manager. (the Sun) http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/2973888/Juventus-move-in-for-Hodgson.html
  18. only 450k, attacking midfielder. Not sure how good he to be honest but there are some potential bargains to be had. Also, Wigan signed Paraguayan international Antonio Alcarez from Club Brugge....not sure how much for but I doubt for big money. Milijas cost 2.6m from Partizan Belgrade, did well whenever he`s played for Wolves, but seems to not be in McCarthy`s plans. Wouldn`t mind trying for him if he`s available.
  19. "Cheryl Cole should support Argentina" -Lionel Messi "I don't know if Cheryl is going to want to support England. She might be a bit anti-England players at the moment." "If she is looking for a new nation to follow at the World Cup, she should look no further than Argentina." "We play the prettiest football, have the prettiest players, and Argentinian men also know how to treat their women." He added: "She would of course have to do the Tango. I don't think there would be a shortage of Argentinian players willing to help teach her." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/worldcup2010/article-1277761/WORLD-CUP-2010-Lionel-Messi-asks-Cheryl-Cole-Argentina-pretty-boys.html
  20. Funniest thing is that Atlético's and Real's traditional celebration places (the fountains of Neptuno and Cibeles, respectively) are merely 100 metres away from each other, and with the spillover mobs you could hardly tell the different between both teams celebrating if they weren't wearing their colors. Atlético are already branding themselves "Madrid's most successful team", bless them. Not calling it until the league is in the bag for us, though! my mistake, 2 cup finals with in the bag for Atletico already . Quique has done a great job with Atletico since taking over.
  21. In all honesty, if Colo did make the final squad and did get to play in the World Cup, I'd be more worried about his stock going down after a bad game or two. He's been class for us this year, but there's still this nagging suspicion that higher calibre strikers than the ones we've been facing on a weekly basis in the Championship might not be so forgiving. Eto'o, Raúl, Real Ronaldo, Forlán, Villa, Torres, Van Nistelrooy. well to be fair ,when Colo played for Depor he played against some of those mentioned ,as well as other top class strikers week in week out and didn`t look out of place at all in that time. That's what I meant, these are the forwards he faced while at Deportivo. And it's not like they leaked goals like there was no tomorrow, Deportivo were a solid defensive side. Heck, Real Madrid never won at Riazor during the years Coloccini was there and I'm talking about a side that had more stars than probably most national teams he'd face at the WC and they shut them out often. It's a fair point (to an extent - we know that Depor fans liked him, but you have to take into account the possibility that they've ignored his failings because both he and the team overall had done alright for them, along with other factors like maybe expectation/pressure being lower?). But the last time he was up against those sorts of strikers he just looked very poor by the time the season ended, with certain flaws being established as being part of his game (too easily turned, not able to do anything to make up lost ground, etc etc - which is why so often the £10m price tag or "international centreback" tag were brought up that year) - e.g. Torres who left him for dead at will whenever we played Liverpool. I think the same could be said of many defenders, not just Colo man.
  22. Congratulations to Atletico against Fulham. at least someone gonna celebrate in the city of Madrid for winning a title this season eh
  23. Magpies eye Villa defender http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/football/8162998.Magpies_eye_Villa_defender/?
  24. We were linked with Topal for a bit but I'm not sure how much truth was in it. Banega was supposed to come on loan in the summer though. We'd got a work permit for him before Valencia pulled out. Banega really turned a corner last season and was fanastic with Valencia. Prior to last season he was all over the place (hence being offered out on loan), poor at both Valencia before being shipped out to Atletico and not impressing at all there either. Looks to have finally found his feet but I am not sure if the Premier League is a good fit for him.
