  1. forgot to mention Jorge "El Mago" Valdivia....one of Chile's most gifted players....currently playing in the middle east so will surely be on the move if he has a decent World Cup. Mauricio Isla also too is worth looking out for...
  2. well he changed his tune from a few months ago if he does decide to stay here..... http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6087247,00.html ....... "He also confirmed that he was set to leave England when his deal at West Ham expires. "Whatever happens, I'm going to leave England. I have received offers from France and Spain and even from three clubs from Brazil," he continued. "If I get a good offer, like from a Brazilian team that wants to win the Copa Libertadores, then of course money will not be the only factor that matters. "I am 29 years old and still think that I can achieve a lot in football.""
  3. Bundesliga overtakes Premier League as world's most profitable No surprises...a very well run league http://edition.cnn.com/2010/SPORT/football/06/08/football.finance.deloitte.bundesliga/?hpt=Sbin
  4. tbh he is one of the key members of Uruguay's team and plays very well for them so don't be too surprised if he does well. As mentioned by others, Alexis Sanchez is a hugely skilful attacking midfielder/forward. I also like the look of Gary Medel (defensive midfielder also of Chile and Boca).....I hope Chile do well...they played good attacking football in the qualifiers and have some good (though largely unknown) players. for other countrues, Tony Kroos as an impact sub might be worth looking our for. Keisuke Honda of Japan too.
  5. Simon Vukcevic on a free transfer? 24 years old.... left/central attacking midfielder from Sporting Lisbon....FM legend......
  6. I remember not long ago ,Freddy Shepherd was interested in buying them
  7. Rangers have targeted Honduras World Cup striker Georgie Welcome in a summer transfer raid as the hunt for the new Kris Boyd intensifies. Full story: Daily Mail
  8. it's not, not even close, it's about on a par with semi-pro football in the UK I don't know what your background is but somehow I don't think you'd be in a better position to judge the merits of the Korean league than I am. Oldtype have you been to K-league games?! I have been living in Korea (and Japan) on and off for quite a few years and have attended quite a few K-league games also. Absolutely no way in hell that the K-keague is on par with the Championship...perhaps league 1 at best.
  9. some canny names missing out on this world cup now along with Essien, Obi, Ferdinand, Ballack etc....i just read Arjen Robben is almost certainly out too
  10. Another defensive midfielder? It's like Mourinho never left. another Argie at Inter even
  11. Liverpool should try for Pellegrini if they can. Martin O'Neill the favourite?
  12. West Brom close to signing Pablo Ibanez from Atletico Madrid. Would have thought he could do better...
  13. pity he couldn't sign for Barca last summer......Filipe Luis on the left and Dani Alves on the right....attack attack attack
  14. also in the Chron....... Newcastle are just one of the clubs credited with an interest in Swedish centre-back Andreas Granqvist by the Dutch media. The 6ft 3in 25-year-old – who played 17 times for Wigan Athletic from 2007-08, initially on loan – is currently with FC Groningen. Fulham, Wolfsburg, Schalke 04 and Hamburg are others said to be monitoring the player. Groningen paid £600,000 to sign Granqvist from Helsingborgs two years ago. It is not clear how United’s reported interest in Granqvist tallies with their stated policy of “no capital outlay” on players this summer. Despite numerous attempts by The Journal to clarify the phrase, Newcastle have stubbornly kept it vague.
  15. Argentina players get sex green light on non-match days On non-match days with regular partners and no champagne: the Argentina squad at the World Cup have received a conditional green light to have sex during the June 11-July 11 tournament. Team doctor Donato Villami, speaking to Radio Del Plata, said: "The players will be able to have sex during the World Cup in South Africa, but with regular partners and without champagne or other drinks. "Sex is part of everybody's social life and it's not a problem in itself. Problems arise with the excesses: all the extras, a non-regular partner or in hours reserved for rest." Argentina will play Nigeria in their first Group B match on June 12, with matches against Greece and South Korea to follow. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/18/20100527/tod-argentina-players-get-sex-green-ligh-1066d3e.html
  16. the football played under Dogliesh was atrocious....horribly boring and negative from what I remember.
  17. I did a search but no Ginola thread titles came up related to this(?).... delete if needed
  18. Golden era in Toon ended by Kenny DAVID GINOLA has pointed the finger at Kenny Dalglish for dismantling the legendary Entertainers. The Frenchman was one of the sparkling gems of Kevin Keegan’s Newcastle United side that came within a whisker of winning the Premier League in 1996. However, just one year later, after somehow squandering a seemingly unassailable lead at the top, Keegan had left Toon and Dalglish sold Ginola, Peter Beardsley and Les Ferdinand, with Tino Asprilla shown the exit door shortly after. As a result, United tumbled from two consecutive second-placed finishes, one achieved by Keegan and one by Dalglish with KK’s team, to 13th position. And although Dalglish delivered Champions League football for the first time, his second season coincided with a series of sterile displays. Toon fans will never forget just how magical the football on offer was from the class of 95/96, with the all-out attacking style setting high standards which teams that followed could just never live up to. Reflecting on being moved on by Dalglish, Ginola told the Chronicle in a refreshingly honest interview: “It was an amazing two years for me, and it didn’t take me long to realise that I was playing in front of the best fans in the world. “Kevin Keegan brought me over and I loved every minute of it. But it quickly turned bitter for me when Kenny Dalglish arrived. “I soon realised that he wanted to recruit his own team and break up the Entertainers. “I wasn’t in the plans of Dalglish. So to move away was difficult because I honestly didn’t want to leave the city or stop playing for the team. But what can you do? If you are not wanted by the manager you have to move on, you don’t really have a choice.” Ginola now feels that it would be almost impossible to recreate such a magical era. He went on: “I couldn’t believe how good Newcastle was when I arrived from Paris. Not just the brilliant supporters but the city and the feeling on the streets, you could tell that everybody thought it was our time to win something. “Coming to Newcastle was fresh and we just knew every time we went out we were going to score lots of goals. “When I first signed I was a bit concerned about what we were aiming to do but it was apparent early on that this club was ambitious, it wanted to win the league and it wanted to rule Europe. “Sir John Hall was a great chairman, he was focused and he was up for the challenge of making Newcastle the best. “It was a brand new experience for me and I loved the magic of it. “The Geordies are passionate people, they live the game, they breathe the game and they dream it too.” http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2010/05/27/golden-era-in-toon-ended-by-kenny-72703-26532806/
  19. Aye I'm gonna give them a watch for a bit (longer if it's canny). Currently got an Alexis Sanchez sticker on my door so I reckon he'll do well. Bam Bam to get all 26 in a comprehensive Chile victory, hopeful. Man, Zamorano. I was only 8/9 when he left Inter, but I remember liking him so he's one of the main reasons when I really got into football about '03 I adopted Inter as my Italian team. Aye he is a hero of mine too - hence the avatar. Remember him belting out the Chilean national anthem in France 98 and him and Salas destroying England the same year. Think when he was at Madrid it was the first shirt i ever got with a name on the back of it too when i were a nipper. Brilliant all round striker who if he'd moved probably would've very effective in the Premiership. Wor Acuna in the lineup there
  20. Pedro got the 18, he swapped with Albiol.
  21. What kind of player is Cleverley? Tbh I haven't seen much of him....is he a Carrick type? passer? or more of an attacking midfielder? any pace? etc As far as I understand, Vuckic is like a classic number 10 type of player who plays just off the forward(s)....not sure if they occupy the same position in midfield anyway. I do agree though...I hope we don;t sign too many players that will push Vuckic and Kadar further down the pecking order.
  22. Mackems linked with Marcos Angeleri for a mere 2.7m......he only just missed out on the Argentine world cup squad...would be a cracking signing by Steve Bruce and a better one at that than Hutton at the reputed 7m. Jonas should have a word with Hughton and get Angeleri here . 2.7m would be a steal and just what we need at right back.
  23. All about the money. Shocking lack of ambition. they also signed Bakari Kone from Marseille. I remember he cost a canny amount (around 10 million euros) when he transferred from OGC Nice 2 seasons back.
  24. maybe your mate read the Chronicle too.
  25. Poor that like. Poor squad numbering really grinds my gears. I vaguely remember Paul Ince wearing number 9 for the smoggies before...
