  6. Atletico Madrid have been linked with him a lot in the past
  7. Milan signed Ally Cissokho from Porto for €15m (+1m add ons) He only just joined them in January for €300.000. The Porto chairman certainly knows how to sell for a tidy profit eh (Pepe, Carvalho, Bosingwa, Quaresma etc all went for massive amounts)
  8. MIKE ASHLEY WANTS ALAN CURBISHLEY (NOTW mind) ALAN CURBISHLEY is being lined up to become Newcastle boss. Toon owner Mike Ashley is trying to sell the club but he is making contingency plans should a quick sale not materialise. Curbishley has been sounded out and, despite the chaos that surrounds the club, he would be willing to move up to the North East. Alan Shearer remains in charge of team matters but the situation is becoming increasingly complicated as his relationship with Ashley has become so strained. Seymour Pierce, the brokers handling the sale, have received a formal bid from an international consortium with no links to the North East. The American group tabled a bid of around £100million on Friday after Barclays did the paperwork on a working overdraft of £25m to ensure the club can keep going in the short-term. "A deal is nearly done, it's very close," said a source. "It could be announced as early as Tuesday or Wednesday next week." Ashley believes he can get a better deal if Newcastle have a manager in place for the massive rebuilding job needed to help the club secure immediate promotion. And Curbishley, 51, was the master of that type of management in 16 years at Charlton. He turned them from a club who did not even have a ground into a consistent Premier League force. And since he left they have slid down into League Two. Curbs also steered West Ham away from relegation but, after a mid-table finish, he fell out with the fans and the board and left Upton Park last September, claiming constructive dismissal.
  9. don`t think he`s had any say or control on transfers like he had at Villareal....Perez is the one choosing the players to go for and not Pellegrini...not that he would have turned down kaka and ronaldo mind
  10. I assume you`re talking about Lassana Diarra. I think a lot of people have forgot about the other Diarra (as he`s been injured) who is just as good, if not better. Talk about a nice set of alternatives in place for injuries
  11. Newcastle whizkid Ferguson catches the eye of German giants after Northern Ireland debut Hertha Berlin are among a clutch of German clubs watching Newcastle's teenage winger Shane Ferguson. The 17-year-old came on as a substitute for the Northern Ireland senior side during their 3-0 friendly defeat by Italy on Saturday and was watched by four scouts from the Bundesliga. Ferguson is in his second year at Newcastle and has been offered a three year contract but has caught the eye of top flight clubs. Hertha boss Lucien Favre is keen to bolster his squad ahead of the new season. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1191524/Newcastle-whizkid-Ferguson-catches-eye-Hertha-Berlin-Northern-Ireland-debut.html?ITO=1490
  12. been on a few Barca forums and most are against signing Zlatan , especially if it's to replace Etoo ,or as being reported -Etoo PLUS a load of cash. http://xtratime.org/forum/showthread.php?t=242569
  13. You think thats bad? You probably won't beleive me but there was a thread on RtG where some mong said they should make an enquiry about Rooney to partner Kenwyne Jones. Almost s*** my pants laughing. It was Bastian Schweinsteiger the other day for their right wing.......
  14. explains Steve Bruce then ......I remember the ways he left his previous teams in Birmingham City and Crystal Palace especially. What was it Simon Jordan (?)said? "Sainsbury's wouldn't even trust him with a loyalty card'
  15. Joey Barton still hoping to turn his life around PLAGUED by his demons he lost his freedom and nearly his career. But today troubled Toon star Joey Barton tells the Chronicle of his hopes for the future and how he is trying to turn his life around. The shamed Newcastle United midfielder, who was sent off for a lunging tackle on Xabi Alonso in the defeat at Liverpool in May, was suspended following a heated row with manager Alan Shearer after the game. Barton was given 200 hours’ community service last year plus a suspended jail stretch for punching Ousmane Dabo at a training ground when they were both at Manchester City. He was also jailed for six months for another attack, outside McDonald’s in Liverpool, which was caught on CCTV. But he walked free after 74 days. Barton was banned by the FA for 12 matches – six of which were suspended – and fined £25,000 after admitting a violent conduct charge in relation to the Dabo incident. And earlier this year he was fined £750 for driving without a licence, as well as £60 costs, after the offence which took place in September last year. The 26-year-old, who lives in a penthouse in Newcastle city centre, said: “I have tried to make the best of my time off the pitch. It has been well documented that I have had problems with alcohol and I’m trying to turn a corner now. “All I am looking forward to is going back, I just hope I’m welcome. “My intention is to stay with the club so I am concentrating on getting back into peak fitness.” Questions over the Scouser’s future, who joined the team in 2007, have been put on the back burner due to the desperate situation Shearer and United find themselves in right now. But Barton said he was keen to get back on the pitch and play for the Toon. He said: “Everything with the club is a little bit up in the air. It is not good times being relegated. “I don’t know what is going to happen with the club or with the manager situation. “It’s really frustrating this has happened, especially as I only played about six or seven games. “I’m just looking forward to going back and my intention is to stay at the club and help Newcastle back into the Premier League. “If Alan Shearer takes the job and if he doesn’t want me then my hands are tied. All I can do is try and get as fit as possible, but I have got to prepare for all eventualities.” Recently Barton has been involved in a project called Second Chance, which aims to give recovering drug addicts and people suffering from homelessness something to focus on to keep them off drugs. Teams from Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, Durham, Northumbria and Glasgow, came head to head in a bid to use the power of sport by bringing people together and paving the way for healthier lifestyles and new opportunities. The football star has been giving tips on crosses and shooting to an 11-a-side team. He said: “I think sport can help keep people off the streets. “When I was a kid if we had a football to play with, the chances of getting into mischief were greatly lessened. “I have been really enjoying it as it is keeping my feet on the ground. Due to my past problems I can relate to some of the lads who have similar issues, if not worse.” Twenty-two-year-old Dennis Baldwin, who lives in Bensham, Gateshead, said he had thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Barton. The former brick layer, who was playing for Gateshead, said: “It has been a brilliant day, we got to the semi-finals and sadly got knocked out two-nil. “It is disappointing that we didn’t win but Joey was a great laugh. “He really helped all the lads improve their game and showed us how it should be done.” Hugh Thompson, who organised the match, added: “It was a great day and fantastic that Joey came to support the lads. “A lot of them have had a hard time in the past but they all came together to take part. “It gives people the chance to play sport as well as hopefully gain some qualifications if that interests them.”
  16. pretty certain he's not been mentioned yet but the Bugarian defender - Aleksander Tunchev from Leicester. An excellent defender IMO and definitely more than good enough for the Championship and lesser EPL club. good in the air, strong in the tackle, good in set pieces situations and he is is also very smart. I am surprised we aren't hearing more rumours about him from clubs higher up. Steve Howard , the geordie is a good player at this level. Perfect target man. Big, strong, tough and a great header of the ball, and a very good touch for a big man as well. What he lacks in speed and perzazz, he makes up for with strength and effectiveness.....if he wasn't in his 30's, might've been worth a try. Or even a 1 year deal.
  17. same here.......we aint got Shearer yet and it would have been nice to have some other backup options like Martinez (other than him, can't think of anyone else I'd rather have in charge tbh)
  18. if we had Chiellini we might not have gone down ......tribalfootball at it's best Arsenal ponder bid for Newcastle defender Chiellini http://www.tribalfootball.com/arsenal-ponder-bid-newcastle-defender-chiellini-248651
  19. well as I'm sure it might have been discussed on some other thread.....but Real Betis got relegated on the last day after they drew 1-1 at home allowing Getafe to stay up on goal difference.......supporters rioted and police had to intervene to stop the angry the fans getting into the VIP area , apparently clashes with supporters and police outside the stadium. Similar to us.......big fan base, 52,000 seater stadium and they have some very canny players on paper.... Sergio Garcia, Ricardo Oliveira (relegated with Real Zaragoza last season), Emana (linked with us before) , Mehmet Aurelio, Capi, Monzon, Nelson,Riccardo, Juanito, Odonkor, Edu etc.
  20. don't think he'd be willing to swap Champions league footy with Coca Cola Championship footy after his success with Olympiakos. Ketsbaia will get him signed him up eventually IMO...
  21. bit off topic but thought Rob Lee would have learned how to say Newcastle properly after 10 years of living up here....he still says Nooocarsel!
  22. Well, Enrique? remember Helder (also Deportivo)? Pity we couldn't sign him up after his loan spell but he was a very solid defender when he was here.
  23. Lovenkrands set for Toon talks Danish winger could stay at Newcastle after an apparent change of heart Danish winger Peter Lovenkrands is set for talks about a possible stay at Newcastle. The 29-year-old joined the Magpies on a six-month deal in the winter transfer window and was not expected to stay with the club following their relegation to the Championship. The former Rangers star was thought to favour a move to a Premier League club but will now have talks about a possible stay at St James' Park, according to his agent Ivan Marko Benes. Benes told Sporten.dk: "We have agreed with Newcastle that we will have a talk with them as soon as they know who will be the manager for the next season. For Peter, Newcastle has priority. "We are waiting for Newcastle, but at the same time we know that Peter doesn't have a contract for the next season so we are looking at other options. Not closed "But things are still not closed with Newcastle." Lovenkrands moved to Tyneside on a free transfer following a disappointing start to the season with German side Schalke. He scored three goals in the Magpies' bid to avoid the drop, including in the victories over West Brom and Middlesbrough.
  24. Swansea City boss Roberto Martinez has revealed he would be interested in becoming Celtic's new manager. Martinez appears to have become Celtic's top target to replace Gordon Strachan and the Bhoys have made an approach for the Spaniard. Championship side Swansea rejected the request and remain hopeful that Martinez will stay at Liberty Stadium. However, Martinez has suggested it would be difficult to pass up the opportunity to succeed Strachan at Parkhead. Ambition "Managing Celtic is one of the top jobs in European football.," Martinez told the Glasgow Evening Times. "Any young aspiring manager with ambition would be interested in a job like that. "It gives you the chance of being involved in Champions League football and the opportunity of silverware every season." Martinez, who has also been linked with former club Wigan Athletic and Real Sociedad, has impressed during his two years in charge of Swansea. And, despite Huw Jenkins' desire to keep him in South Wales, Martinez is optimistic the Swansea chairman will allow him to move on. "Everything has to be sorted with Swansea first," he added. "I have an agreement in place with the Swansea chairman as to what would happen and I'd want that to be honoured."
