  4. Panathinaikos keen to snap up Habib Beye Jul 18 2009 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle GREEK giants Panathinaikos are weighing up a move for unsettled Newcastle United defender Habib Beye. The Chronicle understands Beye’s close pal and former Sunderland striker Djibril Cisse has recommended the Senegal international to ex-Chelsea coach Henk ten Cate, who is now in charge at the Olympic Stadium in Athens. Panathinaikos finished last season in third place in the Greece Super League and are preparing for a title tilt this term, hence the interest in signing an experienced campaigner like Beye. Beye’s contract runs out at the end of the season, but the turmoil at St James’s Park means that talks on a fresh deal have been pushed to the bottom of the priority list. This has angered the 31-year-old, who wanted to extend his current deal and end his career at United. Beye is unhappy at the prospect of his contract running out and being a free agent next summer as the ex-Marseille captain is keen to be in a position to map out the remainder of his career. However, his future on Tyneside looks ominous after the player told his team-mates he will stand by his words earlier this week and quit the Magpies. A source close to Beye told the Chronicle: “Habib is upset at the situation but cannot go on like this without knowing what the future holds. “He was man enough to tell his team-mates face to face that he wanted to leave United and he received positive feedback from senior players such as Nicky Butt and Steve Harper. It is clear the players fully understand why he wants to leave Newcastle.” Beye is contracted to United until the end of the season, meaning in normal circumstances they would be under no pressure to sell. Yet, with no manager in place to discuss a new deal and the club up for sale, Beye finds himself in limbo. United signed the defender for £2m during the Sam Allardyce era and he has recently courted attention from a number of clubs including Everton and Man City. United’s bitter rivals Sunderland are also interested – and a move to the Stadium of Light would be yet another slap in the face for the Toon Army if it happened.
  5. yep.....if I said he scored a 30 yard volley on his debut against Sunderland that might have given it away easier too....class goal
  6. The full quote from Kaka's wife... “There are people out there who need our help,” Caroline stated in an interview, as reported by Corriere dello Sport. “I made a covenant with the Lord, that I was convinced in spirit to marry a virgin. After falling in love with Kaka, I thought that I would fail in doing this; however I told him clearly that I wanted to remain a virgin until marriage. “It was a signal that I had respected the Lord, and now there is a sign from God, through Real Madrid. “How can someone, in this period of crisis, be worth so much money? It is because God has put this money into the hands of Real Madrid, in order to recruit Kaka. “From here we can open a church in Madrid, as there are people who must hear our words.”
  7. I made my debut for Yugoslavia in 91........played in 1 European Championship and 2 World Cups. I played league football in (the then) Yugoslavia ,Portugal, Belgium, England ,Italy and Spanish leagues (not necessarily in that order) (anything else and it might give it away too easily, if I haven`t already!)
  8. tbf it's not like these guys do it to take the piss, most of these kids did not even have parents much less money to register and get a birth certificate. Its not like they do it on purpose, people don´t seem to comprehend this issue and take it they do it just to gain an advantage while the truth is they are so ****ing poor they cannot afford children being registered.
  9. Everton manager David Moyes says that comments he made about Nigerian players have been misunderstood. He questioned the true age of his striker Yakubu Ayegbeni and of Nigerian players in general. The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) has written to the English FA asking for Moyes to be sanctioned. "What I said has been taken totally out of context. I have never before been accused of being a racist, that idea is totally abhorrent to me," said Moyes. After Yakubu scored a hat-trick in Everton's Uefa Cup win over SK Brann on Thursday, Moyes told the Guardian newspaper: "He's only 25, albeit a Nigerian 25, and so if that is his age he's still got a good few years ahead of him." pretty funny older quote from Moyes (for once)
  10. terrible player.....saw him when he played in the German league and he wasn't that good then either
  11. actually he said “What the f*** would he do at Sunderland? You have heard him say he will only sign for a big English club. I don’t want to insult Sunderland, but I don’t even know where they finished last season.” http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/article6643475.ece
  12. Newcastle winger Jonas Gutierrez is set for a move to Roma but, while the Italian club want him on loan, the Magpies want to get back the £5.2m they paid for the Argentine. Full story: Daily Mirror

  15. probably be off to Liverpool next after this Owen to Man U business
  16. facebook man Leeds youngster Luke Garbutt has claimed he is on his way to Everton, according to a posting on social networking site Facebook. The highly-rated left-back, 16, impressed for England's Under-17s during the recent European Championships in Germany. The Toffees are now poised to make a raid on the Whites, who have lost of number of talented teenagers to Premier League clubs following their fall from grace. Writing on his own Facebook wall, he said: "Luke Garbutt is moving to Liverpool on Friday." When asked whether he was joining Everton, he replied: "Yes, yes I'm off on Friday.
  17. they will. who do you think? Tevez is gone and Benzema their top target is at Real now. Any other top strikers you could see them realistically going for? Besides Benzema and Shola I don:t think there were any real obvious ones in mind
  18. David Edgar reveals Newcastle shambles after joining Burnley By Alan Nixon 3/07/2009 Burnley new boy David Edgar has revealed the shambolic state of Newcastle after staff discovered he had left when they saw it on TV. The Canadian defender quit Toon to sign for Owen Coyle's newly-promoted club, with the Geordies unaware that Edgar had already packed his bags and signed a contract with the Clarets. Edgar, 22, said: "I got a call from a Newcastle coach after they found out I had signed. They asked if it was true. It is very difficult for them up there, they don't have anyone in charge from the chairman down. "There could be a new owner, a new manager, yet the lads don't know what is going on." Coyle, who has also landed record buy Steven Fletcher and Derby's Tyrone Mears, said: "I won't be scared of spending any money if we have got it. We are signing young and hungry players."
  19. Rodrigo Possebon joined Sporting Braga on a season-long loan. I think he`ll be a very canny player in the future for Man U. Would not have minded him here....but saying that, Fergie would probably not loan us players after we got Rossi and barely played the lad
  20. quite a few from the Far East. Don't understand why South Asia India, Pakistan ,Japan, China, Korea are all in the same category. One is South Asia and the other the Far East....meh
  21. seems Real's plan is just to sign all the players on Earth, so their rivals can't even field 11 players
  22. Ruben De La Red ruled out for the whole 2009/2010 season. Wish him the best, it must be mentally painful to accept this for him, its already against the odds to make it to their first team and then have your career end (well looking likely) by something that no one really understands. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11827_5409782,00.html
  23. I can see Man U now trying to get him back now that Benzema is seemingly on his way to Real Madrid........I believe they have some buy back clause or first dibs on him unless that's expired. PS: Some of the comments in the other Rossi threads .....hindsight is nice tbf what about now?
  24. I know.....anyway at the end of the day Argentinians are basically Italians who speak Spanish
