  1. the unwashed still have not sold all their tickets(don`t think they did for the previous 2 also?)....pretty disgraceful for a local derby but not surprising....$hite support http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=359132
  2. JOE KINNEAR will NOT try to bring any free-contract players to St James’s Park during his spell as interim manager of Newcastle United. Instead, Kinnear admits he is “happy” with the United squad he has inherited from Kevin Keegan. With the transfer window closed until January 1, the only players Kinnear could add to what is considered a paper-thin squad in many quarters would be those out of contract. However, he said today: “I have had a long look at UEFA’s list of players who are out of contract and available to join other clubs. It is actually a massive list. “It is full of players who have only played two games for their clubs, and these are not the sort of players I want for Newcastle United. “Those type of players are not going to improve us and, to tell the truth, I already have better players here – even those who are on the fringe of the first team.” Kinnear does have long-term injury casualties in Obafemi Martins, Alan Smith and Mark Viduka. However, he believes Jonas Gutierrez, Habib Beye, Andy Carroll and Ignacio Gonzalez will all be back in the picture by the time Manchester City arrive at St James’s Park a week tonight. He added: “If I can get some of those players back it would be a big boost, especially as Danny Guthrie is back with us again after his suspension. I am happy with the squad I have. “Don’t forget I can also include Joey Barton in our squad by the time we go to Sunderland on October 25 if I want him.” To be fair to Kinnear, it looks as though he has rekindled Shola Ameobi’s career at St James’s after the 26-year-old striker – the leading scorer on the present staff – looked to be down and very much out. With Viduka a long-term absentee and Xisco not looking the finished article, Ameobi could still have a big part to play this season. Kinnear said: “There is a lot about Shola’s game I like, and I have been working with him on a one-to-one basis in the last week.”
  3. Nile Ranger backed to shine in front of goal Oct 13 2008 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2008/10/13/nile-ranger-backed-to-shine-in-front-of-goal-72703-22022285/

  5. OBAFEMI MARTINS is set to give Newcastle a huge boost — by making a shock derby day return to action. The Nigerian striker had been ruled out until mid-November with a knee injury picked up in the Carling Cup defeat against Tottenham. But Martins now aims to be involved — if only from off the bench — against Sunder- land on October 25 after returning to light training a fortnight ahead of schedule. Martins has been jogging and kicking a ball at Newcastle’s training ground in recent days, much to the delight of Joe Kinnear. Amid fears that Mark Viduka will be sidelined for another six months with an Achilles injury, the prospect of Martins returning to partner Michael Owen is a huge plus for United’s interim manager. Meanwhile, sources suggest that Indian billionaire Anil Ambani may be ready to revive his interest in a Newcastle takeover. The Sunday Sun can confirm that Ambani did make serious inquiries about a bid for United in the summer, and has not ruled out an official approach. But the revelation that owner Mike Ashley has underwritten Newcastle’s debts rather than settled them out of his own pocket is understood to be a new concern for would-be buyers. One of the potential investors approached by Ashley during his recent trip to Dubai — Zabeel Investments — are poised to buy Charlton Athletic, as the likelihood increases of Ashley having to significantly lower his asking price for the Magpies. Elsewhere, FIFA have been called into a row over Emre’s transfer from Newcastle to Fenerbahce in the summer. The exact details of the case are unclear, but it may centre on money being due to Emre’s former club — and Fener’s bitter rivals — Galatasaray as part of the deal. As for incoming players, the Magpies’ managerial limbo means they look set to miss out on Bolton starlet Jack Sampson. We can reveal the 15-year-old striker and his parents visited Newcastle in August and were open to a move, but Kevin Keegan’s departure and the chaos that followed has left the teenager more likely to join Manchester City.
  6. KFC boss to take over Toon? Published Date: 10 October 2008 A MULTI-billionaire Arab businessman who brought KFC to Kuwait is the frontrunner to buy Newcastle United. Nasser Al-Kharafi, 65, built his £8.13bn fortune with exclusive franchise deals across the Middle East for Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut, Wimpy and TGI Fridays, as well as a huge construction empire. Now the world's 48th richest man – who was linked with a bid for the club last month – may grab the ultimate takeaway from Tyneside, according to reports today. A national newspaper said sources in the Middle East have confirmed Al-Kharafi's bid team has received the four-page 'teaser' document for buyers prepared by owner Mike Ashley and investment bank Seymour Pierce. The source went on to tell the newspaper Al-Kharafi was interested when the club first became available, and was still interested. They added: "He cannot comment on any deal because he has signed the confidentiality agreements which binds all interested parties. But he has the money to make it work." http://www.shieldsgazette.com/nufc/KFC-boss-to-take-over.4580680.jp
  7. Gerry Francis mulling offer to join NUFC staff Oct 7 2008 by Alan Oliver, Evening Chronicle GERRY FRANCIS is “thinking over” an offer to join Joe Kinnear on the coaching staff with Newcastle United. The United interim boss has offered the former England skipper and Spurs manager the chance to do some specialist coaching for a couple of days a week. And Kinnear told me today: “Gerry is thinking over our offer. I have not been back to London since I came to Newcastle a week past Friday and I have only been able to speak to him on the telephone. “But I will be going to London at the weekend and I hope to get something sorted out by then.” Meanwhile, Kinnear revealed that club owner Mike Ashley rang him immediately after Sunday’s creditable draw at Everton. Says Kinnear: “Mike was on the phone not long after the final whistle went, saying he had been watching the game with his kids at home. “And he said he nearly jumped out of the window when Leighton Baines appeared from nowhere to kick that shot from Charles N’Zogbia off the goal-line because he thought it was going to be the winning goal. “But he seemed happy enough at our performance and the eventual result.” Kinnear supervised both the training sessions yesterday and today and he will be at tonight’s reserve game when United go to Robin Park to take on Wigan’s second string. There was more good news for Kinnear today when striker Andy Carroll trained for the first time after picking up a bad foot injury in a freak accident in the summer.
  8. not so sure. i've seen them a bit recently and it'll be more amidfield problem than defensive one. at the same time citeh look poor defensivly as a team. I think Zabaleta is out suspended too
  9. just the game for Barton to make his comeback in and make a massive impact.......or lose his head and get another 3 match ban Still, I would like to see (barring we miraculously pick up no injuries): ------Given----- Beye--Colo--Bassong--Enrique Jonas-Barton-Guthrie-Zoggy ------Owen---Martins------- I`m certain Nicky Butt will start this game, as will Taylor though
  10. not sure what happened to the old thread (think it was titled summer rumours anyway) Scholes,Hargreaves,Anderson,Carrick. Do they need more centre midfielders? ------ Fergie wants an £18million Pal MANCHESTER UNITED are poised to make an £18million swoop for Wigan ace Wilson Palacios. SunSport understands the champions could nab the midfielder as early as January, although the deal is more likely to happen at the end of the season. We told you exclusively that United wanted Palacios, 24, last summer — but Latics boss Steve Bruce was desperate to keep him for one more year. A close pal of Palacios said: “You know the rapport between Steve Bruce and Alex Ferguson. They’re very close. “United have been following Wilson closely for some time. Steve benefited from his rapport with Sir Alex and was able to keep Wilson for six months or a year more. “Nothing is signed but there’s a moral agreement. Wigan have set the bar high, £18m. It’s possible it could be done in January.” Honduran Palacios has been a revelation in the Premier League since Wigan bought him for £1m from Birmingham last January. So have United recently — shrugging off their sluggish start with wins against Bolton and Blackburn plus a Euro triumph over Aalborg in the past 10 days. And Ferguson has warned his rivals they will be even BETTER after the international break. The United boss said: “We never usually settle until the international breaks are over. We’ll get back into the rhythm with West Brom at home. “Then in November you can expect us to really start going.”

    Amr Zaki

Possibly, it's something you've got to watch out for, its only a few games in, and some of his goals being basic. But he's looked a good capture on loan, and could turn out to be a right master stroke by Bruce (his only one for me) then again, he could go the next 10 games without scoring and no one would want to know. Basing off what i've seen, i like him and would like him here. Dugarry. I think he's doing an excellent job at Wigan at the moment. Still think he's a w***** though, obviously. werent Palacios and Valencia loan signings too initially? they turned out not bad
  12. Because I see a defensive partnership being someone who's very good on the deck who's capable of bringing the ball out from the back and the other being more of a defensive rock who wins everything in the air, just because Colo is an experienced international doesn't mean he should be able to be the main ball winner in the air, the same way as i wouldn't expect Gallas or Carvalho to win everything in the air if they were here either, simply because it's not their game either and it's why they have been partnered with defenders who are superior in the air in Terry and Toure. I'm not putting the blame onto Taylor, I'm questioning what sort of defender he is because people kept on about how similar he was to Faye to form a good partnership yet now Faye has gone he's not stepping into that role of being the main ball winner in the air. Gallas and Carvalho are both very good in the air and while I understand your point about partnerships that compliment one another is it too much to ask from multi-million pound players to be able to do the basics well enough like heading the ball? It doesn't have to be his game per se of course like it isn't Gallas' or Carvalho's but both when challenged are more than capable in the air and so too should be Colo. I'm not so sure about his ability on the floor either. With time and space as well as options he looks good of course, but I've yet to see him dribble his way out of trouble, use quick feet to escape an attacker or make telling passes which suggest he's something else with the ball or on the floor. He's no Ramage of course but he's no Rio Ferdinand either. As for Taylor, when he's playing centrally you'll find he is the main ball winner in the air - see the Man Utd match away for example or against Arsenal at the Emirates. That's not to say he's great in the air and problem solved, but he does win his fair share and does like to attack that ball whereas Colo seems weak in the air and reluctant to attack it when challenged. I'm hoping this is to do with adapting issues rather than any quality issues because in Spain crossing isn't done as much as it is here and nor is high line pressing forward play from big burly centre-forwards either. I'd like to see him assert himself more though, like his compatriot Jonas has done who isn't a man mountain or a beast. Time will tell. He does win his fair share of headers in the box though similar to Gallas and Carvalho, he's just not going to win every long ball forward when he's in a straight jump against the more dominant strikers in the Premiership, but neither does Gallas or Carvalho, that's why they have the likes of John Terry partnering them who comes out and win practically every long ball that gets pumped down field. What we need is a big dominant partner to play next to him if Taylor and Bassong are not up to playing that role. apparently the Arsenal fans are on Gallas` back alot because of his brain fart moments. They say he`s certainly not a leader and is not the same player he was like when he had a top class player like Ricardo Carvalho alongside him. Maybe you could relate Colo to that. I have no doubt Colo is a top class defender, just needs someone competent beside him (like Gallas was with Carvalho) without having to worry about other central defenders dropping clangers in the back of his mind
  13. yes,same one.Think he`s 35 now but still a creative threat
  14. Duff and Taylor - fkn magic SHAME ON ALL YOU DOUBTERS (erm, me too then)
  15. first Taylor and now Shola! --- Joe to hand Shola chance Oct 4 2008 by Alan Oliver, Evening Chronicle JOE KINNEAR is ready to put his faith in Shola Ameobi for tomorrow’s game at Everton. But while Jose Enrique is back in the picture, the United interim boss was forced to rule fellow full-back Habib Beye out just before the bus left for Merseyside after today’s training session. Kinnear admits he has liked what he has seen of Ameobi this week – and with Obafemi Martins and Mark Viduka still out injured, he is ready to partner the 26-year-old striker with Michael Owen tomorrow. Kinnear told me: “I have two choices up front for a partner for Michael – Shola Ameobi or Xisco. I will probably give them 45 minutes each, but I am leaning towards starting off with Shola. “This will be a big opportunity for him and I hope it is not a lost opportunity. “They tell me he has 46 goals for us and this is more than anybody else in our squad at the moment. “I have had a good talk to Shola this week and I have told him he has the size, power and pace to go out there and do it, and this is what I am looking for him to do tomorrow.” Ameobi will need no reminding that it was at Goodison where he received the only red card of his career on the last day of the 2005 season. Or the fact that his last goal for United from open play came in the 1-1 draw against Everton at St James’s Park just over two years ago. Meanwhile, United have not had a recognised full-back in their line-up since Kevin Keegan’s last game at Arsenal and Kinnear was hoping to see both Beye and Enrique return tomorrow. But while Enrique is in the squad – and it would be a surprise if he did not go in at left-back instead of Sebastien Bassong – Beye has not made enough progress from his Achilles tendon trouble. Kinnear said: “I sat down with Habib Beye and had a long chat with him, but he feels he is not quite right and he is not going with us to Everton. “But at least Charles N’Zogbia, who has not trained much this week after picking up that knock against Blackburn, is now OK, and we are delighted to have Danny Guthrie back from suspension.” Everton, who have lost all their three home games to date in the Premier League, had a trip to Belgium this week only to have their Euro campaign ended they were knocked out of the UEFA Cup on Thursday night by Standard Liege. They returned home with injuries to skipper Phil Neville and former United striker Louis Saha, and with right-back Tony Hibbert suffering from cramp. Kinnear is aware his first game in charge of United will be followed by a 15-day break for the World Cup qualifiers. He said today: “You want to get off to a winning start. There’s nothing I want more than to kick-start my reign here with a victory. “We really need to get ourselves out of the position we are in. The last thing we want is to be in the position we are in now during the international break, with players moping around. “There would be a feelgood factor for the following two weeks if we were to go to Goodison and get a decent result.”
  16. Top five managerial rants When Joe Kinnear unleashed both barrels at a Newcastle United press conference, it brought to mind some football managerial runs-in with the media from the past. 1. Sir Alex Ferguson Cristiano Ronaldo's exaggerated tumble was the feature of Manchester United's win over Middlesbrough in Dec 2006. Gareth Southgate described the winger as a serial diver, but when Sky's Geoff Shreeves approached Sir Alex Ferguson for his reaction the response was rather different: Shreeves: I asked him... Ferguson: F***ing (inaudible) b******. Shreeves: Don't talk to me like that. Ferguson: F--- off to you. Shreeves: Don't talk to me like that. Don't even think about it. Ferguson: Don't you think about it, you ----. F--- off. Right? Shreeves: Listen, are you going to do the interview in a professional manner or not? Do you want to do it or not? Ferguson: You f------ be professional. You be professional. You're the one. Shreeves: I'm entitled to ask... Cristiano gave the right answer. Ferguson: F------ hell with your answers. Shreeves: Don't talk to me like that. Go away. If you want to behave civilly, fine. Don't talk to me like that. Ferguson: F--- off. (door slams) 2. Graham Taylor to the News of the World's Rob Shepherd, 1994: "Rob, I can't continue...listen, Rob...I cannot have faces like yours around about me. [uproarious laughter] No I can't – I tell you what, if you were one of my players with a face like that, I'd f------ kick you out. You'd never have a chance. Put a smile on your face, we're here for business, come on." 3. Sir Alex Ferguson again, memorably, on a reports of an argument between Juan Sebastian Veron and Manchester United team-mates following their 2003 Champions League semi-final exit at Bayer Leverkusen. "People are always going on about f------ Veron. You tell me, what's wrong with Veron?" fumed Fergie. "What's this thing about fights and all the rest of this s---? It's absolute nonsense, you know it's nonsense. Absolute lies. On you go. I'm no f------ talking to you. He's a f------ great player. Yous are f------ idiots." 4. Harry Redknapp on camera after being struck by a football: Why the f--- did you kick that over here? You tried to kick it in the goal and you hit me? Get some f------ brains, will you? [To reporter] It's no wonder he's in the f------ reserves." 5. Avram Grant Not the bellicose type, former Chelsea manager confounded everyone last season with an extraordinary passive-aggressive press conference, greeting almost every question with a monosyllabic 'yes' or 'no' answer.
  17. what a nonsense article, the sun have nowt better to write about eh.....plus he look like a right co(k Official: Toon are cursed http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00605/ghost_682x400_605930a.jpg SUNSPORT has solved the mystery of the Newcastle nightmare. The club is cursed! We got Tyneside’s top paranormal investigators to look into why the Toon is currently pure doom and gloom. And after specialist ghoul hunters Alone in the Dark Entertainment had worked their magic, all was clear. Curses expert Trevor Brown declared: “Curses are all about negative thoughts. "You can sense the atmosphere. And when you have 50,000 thinking the same thing, that is the outcome. “It is like a whirlwind of negative energy. But as soon as Mike Ashley leaves and Kevin Keegan comes back, the whole thing will turn around.” After probing the situation with infrared thermometers and electro-magnetic field meters, Brown added: “If you hate something so much and you keep thinking it, that negative energy will take over. “It is possible the club is cursed right now. But it will lift once the thought patterns change. If the right man comes in, it could go overnight. "People used to say Sunderland were cursed. They got some bloke to do a blessing — and they didn’t go down last season, so maybe it worked.” The area around St James’ Park was used centuries ago to hang witches, while regular ghost hunts are carried on weekly throughout the city. Joe Kinnear will just be praying his team is not kicked in the ghouls again at Everton tomorrow. Brown declared: “There have been so many supporters who have loved Newcastle. The good spirits will always be there. "But those spirits need to be lifted though to make everyone realise how proud they are of the club.”
