Defenders is the priority. blueyes.gif

"Jock Stein was once asked about Kenny Dalglish what was his best position, Steins replied: "Just put him on the pitch son" You'd could play Gerrard anywhere. He scored 23 goals from the right hand side of midfield last season, Rafa Benitez is hardly going to put him in the centre when Sissoko and Alonso give us better balance."Dermot. iirc about 15 of them were in mickey mouse qualifying games. blueyes.gif Rafa will be out after this season when you fail to qualify for the CL.

Comparing Gerrard to Ballack would be more interesting. Both are allround mf with an attaking aspect to their game.
-
He is slightly better than Ballack atm.
-
Those of you are picking Gerrard think he would make an ideal left forward then?
-
This is hilarious, they are two totally different players who have totally different roles....The funny thing is Gerrard can't even get HIS OWN BOSS to play him in his best position. bluedead.gif

"I can see a midfield of Dyer, Emre, Butt, Zog working well too." HTL blueyes.gif I agree. The thing is let Parker and Butt interchange the DM role depending on the opposition.
-
Carragher knows virtually nothing about football and I'd be surprised if Liv make the top 4 this year, I don't think Barca will be having such hassles. End of debate really.

Looking at the teams likely to drop in from the CL, ideally the likes of Sporting, Benfica or CSKA need to be avoided, our performances against well performing Euro sides like Celta who beat Real only a couple of weeks ago and Palermo sitting near the top of Serie A does actually give me hope. The kind of 'smallish nippy' side we have is conclusively more adaptable to Euro demands and I can see us getting into the S-F as long as we don't get a mad draw. You see if we'd have had proper full backs (I'd keep Nobby there btw) I'd have gone as far as to say anything was possible in this competition which although strong isn't full of deadly sides. The teams that would cream us will stay safely in the CL.

Dyer totally overhauls our midfield when he is dropping off with his little one-two's and quick short passing. At the moment he is a huge asset with his running and taking on players. Seems to be more composed than I've ever known him and currenltly willing to give his all. I have been one of his critics yes, but only cause I expect so much form him. blueyes.gif People who are calling him average need to be a bit fairer to the player. If he goes on to play the next 20 games like the last 2 we will be the stronger for it. Seems to have a free role atm which I would happily give Roeder credit for. Think about it if Martins started displaying half the movement of Dyer he's be a completely different player.
-
Excellent today, it is so much easier to bring the ball out when the full backs can pick a pass and are comfortable on the ball.
-
Just one thought for me. Why is Martins starting position on the left, this only limits his effectiveness. He wants to be running onto things from the right, that way he won't have to change feet and cut away from goal to have a shot and more chance to shield the ball. Christ someone needs to show him how to hold on it. When is GR getting his coaching badge?

"If you think that in a relegation battle we can afford to put someone who doesn't give a **** in for 4 or 5 games just to see what he's like, then you haven't got a clue. No one's on about him not scoring a hat trick - that's a lazy argument designed to divert attention away from how shite the lad has been. We don't expect hat tricks, we expect and demand some effort, and we're getting none. So he can **** off." Gemma Fully agree. blueyes.gif Btw this thread could easily be merged with the other one poll and al. bluewink.gif

Carrick - Fergie's correct.... and there's our midfield cornerstone.

Carrick is a deep lying playmaker, Parker is an out an out defensive midfielder with poor distribution. THREAD CLOSED. -

I think Fergie has made a mistake with Carrick which is compounded by the price. He is a reasonable enough def midfielder and perhaps one of the best players when he was at Spurs. But not top draw by any means and will cost Man Utd CL progress this year. -
Just from that I can see he has more balance than Carr.
-
Can play right back or right mf...Defensive mf type who can get forward. Goodish player actually. Might be the end of Carr hopefully.
-
Spurs will probably get relegated and we'll creep into the ooofa cup again.
-
Duff is lacking in confidence at the moment.
-
Jol doesn't even look right.
-
Jol's last season at Spurs I reckon.
-
Dowd really is one of the worst refs. Lucky for Spurs though otherwise they would have nowt from this game. Never a penalty.
